Yeah, how tall are the Mutos? Is Femuto taller than Godzilla?

Maybe 3 quarters of Godzilla's height.

Good read. I'm kind of curious if more of the MUTOs as we know them to be will spawn for future sequels. They were fun creatures, but there were only the two spores found in the phillipines. Fun to speculate. I feel like there won't be any more of that type of monster.

If the Muto's presence drew out Godzilla, perhaps a few more appearing would cause more monsters to come out. What if the second film opens with a single Muto appearing with Godzilla seemingly in pursuit, but when the hunter emerges it isn't Godzilla, but, much to everyone's surprise, some new monster (Angilas? Pretty please?). The Mutos could be dealt with in the first act, but set off the series of events.

I hope they're not the new Gyaos. As much as I liked them, I want some variety.

Well, the kaiju in the prequel comic book was nothing like the MUTOs from the movie... It had its own name and everything. I'm loving how fresh the new Godzilla is.

Honestly, the MUTOs do feel like Godzillas Gyaos. Though, the prequel comic showed that there are other kaiju out there than just Godzilla and the MUTOs.

That's why I don't want more MUTOs for the sequel.

Godzilla - This Is What The MUTOs Could Have Looked Like!

Screen Rant July 27th, 2013:
‘Godzilla’ Reboot Director Talks Creature Design; Sequel Ideas Inspired by ‘Destroy All Monsters’
“With the exception of the 1954 original, I would say my second favorite film is Destroy All Monsters. I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically. I wouldn’t want to limit it to one other foe, I think it’s more fun to – this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel – but I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira.”

Dope Pope's Deviant Art:
zMUTO GIGAN
This is my hybrid of a MUTO and GIGAN. It seemed a natural fit that these could blend together well. I tried to keep the silhouette of Gigan, while redesigning his anatomy as if it were a MUTO that mutated into his form. It's more style over function tho, and that was the intent just for fun.

zMUTO GIGAN alternate views

zMUTORODAN
My rendition of a MUTO that has taken the form of Rodan. I kept the tall stance of the Showa Rodan, and tried to keep the shape of Rodan's head while retaining the MUTO look as well. Being that the male MUTOs already fly, and have giant wings, it was important to me that this tall stance be kept, not only to look more like Rodan, but also to not look like the original form of the male MUTO. Once I start hunching the figure forward, and bending limbs back, it can get too close to the original form, and have no Rodan-esque attributes

Gigan_sketches
Gigan is definitely one of the coolest Kaiju around. My only minor revisions to his look would be the fingers added to his giant claws. They really wouldn't serve much of a purpose, and design wise they'd most likely NOT be there, but I added them anyway.

I really hope there's no MUTO-ism to the Rodan redesign...otherwise, how will we be able to differentiate between male MUTO and Rodan? They'd be too similar.

I too hope that there is not MUTO-ization happening to Rodan (and Gigan if we eventually get to see him). The MUTOs were great new daikaiju, I think Legendary made the right choice in going with new kaiju for Godzilla to battle rather than bringing along an existing sparring partner.

I'm looking forward to seeing another new monster (or monsters) in the sequel. It would be pretty cool if upcoming version of King Ghidorah is a space kaiju like the original Showa version, and doubly cool if whatever new monster Legendary comes up with is also a space kaiju. Legendary could go with a whole promotional campaign about 'how humanity spent decades looking for life in outer space but now that life has found us' or something along those lines.

With people like Gareth Edwards, Thomas Tull, and Yoshimitsu Banno involved, we got a Godzilla that was very much like his later '60s, early '70s self. I'm confident that we'll get similar results for King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan. Think Destroy All Monsters minus the Kilaaks.

Well, considering the rumored kaiju are King Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra, it sounds more like an out-and-out remake of Ghidrah: The Three Headed Monster.

Doesn't mean that there won't be other new monsters added to the mix. And who knows, they might license other monsters down the line too. We got 4 years for the next movie and they might, and in my opinion shouldn't, not use all three in the next movie. So who knows what else they'll have pop up by the third movie in 2021/2022.

I'm kind of hoping that we'll see an expendable MUTO in the opening scene of Godzilla 2. Show a large creature like the Femuto get swiftly annihilated by Ghidorah, who is only in frame for a couple seconds. This would establish Ghidorah as a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the movie.
