This isn't for new spoilers- rather, the deeper discussion of G14 plot elements that have already been revealed.

So... Beyond this point, I'm gonna drop the spoiler tag stuff because it's highly obnoxious to pull off on a mobile device.

In the "Debacle Thread", another user asked,

"So... Jira is a prehistoric creature like the Mutos. A Jira creature survived and was awakened by the Nagasaki explosion. Theh the creature attacked a location of an american nuclear test and it gets exposed to the explosion. Then the same creature gets attacked by the american fleet with some kind of nuclear warhead. So this new Godzilla took radiation from THREE different explosions? And it must be already a living nuclear reactor since the ancient Mutos needed to put their eggs inside Jiras.Is that right?"

That was my question exactly. The dead creature in the ice shouldn't be mutated at all, since it had never been nuked. And given that the Mutos need something radioactive *and* living to deposit their larva in (because otherwise, wouldn't they just deposit their eggs in nuclear reactors?) we have to conclude that Godzilla l, in his mutated form was already a radioactive creature.

Godzilla takes several nukes assumedly. They imply that post WW2 nuclear tests in the 60's were really operations meant to take out Godzilla, who had already become something of a nuisance after nosing around (but not rampaging) shortly after Nagasaki and later bothering with the US nuclear fleet.

My assumption would be that he was attracted to the radiation like a dog to bacon.

So...

1. What did the radiation "change" about Godzilla?
2. If Godzilla wasn't dead, why did he suddenly stop seeking out radioactive things?
3. An unmutated Godzilla is already enormous- there could probably only be a couple of these things simply because of their ultra-super-predator status, unless we are to assume that Jiras are fueled entirely by radiation and do not eat. Given this, it seems unlikely that the Mutos would evolve specifically to implant their eggs in a Jira creature- especially since the infestation assumedly kills the host.

The idea of Godzilla's species already being radioactive did pop in my head when you first gave us that spoiler. But I thought to myself "that can't be right, I'm just reading it wrong".

Now it looks like others have thought this as well. If that is the case, then...how? How could that be explained?

Secondly, the Mutos, how do they return? You said something about one escaping from a lab? Well where does he come from?

My theory, until proven false, is that they take DNA or eggs from the specimens found in the ice, and clone them?

Idk, but it's got me thinking a lot.

The jiras and mutos must have been species that evolved around a natural fission reactor.
The only one located so far is in the country of Gabon in Africa. Meltdown 1.7 bya. There have almost certainly been others that have went undiscovered.

Natural fission reactors? Holy "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!", if someone had asked me if that was real, would have said "No, you stupid or something?"

Looks like I'm the stupid one. That's a great pretty neat discovery.

Anyway, Mutos reproduce by laying eggs in a Jira. But there are no more Jiras, the only current living one decided to sleep at the bottom of the ocean for 60 years. So....*shrug*

I've heard that lots of things give off small amounts of natural radiation or something like that, like a geiger counter would read tiny amounts of radiation coming from a person or animal even if they aren't "Radioactive" maybe Godzilla's species just gives off huge amounts of radiation naturally in this version?

I still wonder if that 1954 intro and the corpse in the ice thing might not change.

I don't recall much about those sinkholes we keep seeing in the MUTO stuff that's been officially released, and it makes me curious if perhaps they changed their origen altogether. There a big part of me that hopes they took this film a little more in the direction of Edward's previous film, MONSTERS and that these things or things like them
might be known to exist.

After all, why should the MUTO organization be an actual unit of the military if this isn't a universe where large mutated creatures aren't an unfortunate fact of life like a tornado. Certainly not because of one "Jira" creature that appeared a couple times in the fifties.

Maybe MUTO exists because kaiju do exist, however the general public doesn't know that they exist.

The distinction implied here is that there are both natural and man made sources of radioactivity and problems arise with the man made sources. Things get out of hand when the man made source is used to eliminate the problem but instead makes it far, far worse for using it (nuclear power). This appears to be the story's message, hence the return of Mutos and creation of Godzilla.

That Godzilla triops is fake but his theory fits well with a monster straight out of the fifties.

The sinkholes are the puzzling thing. The burning one in Russia is incubating something.
Would have to be a MUTO. The still of the soldiers on guard with the glow in the background must be from that site.

Perhaps they've found other Mutos and are keeping an eye on their stasis.

Also--- is Godzilla technically a Muto? Is Muto a specific term or a general term describing any large unidentified mutations? The latter seems likely- wouldn't it be odd to name the organization directly after a specific creature?

I really think that this world has been expanded- it's begging for it. The screenplay is full of big ideas with small execution when it comes to the "world building" aspect. I hope they blew some of these concepts up.

An alternate history where kaiju and odd mutations have always been a fact of life is infinitely more interesting to me than a story where one day these things just appear.

Godzilla would technically be a muto. The MUTO organization would have been established in the 50's after the appearance of Godzilla. I think they will be an organization that is a cross between shield and x-files. A military group led by scientists in much the same vein and secrecy as the Manhattan Project.
