Am I the only one that just does not seem all that excited?

Postby Dr Kain » Mon Nov 25, 2013 1:36 am

I've been pretty much ignoring this movie's existence almost entirely. My response is more like, "Yeah, cool, there is a new Godzilla movie next year, anyway..." as something is keeping me from wanting to get interested in it at all. Am I the only one?

No you're not alone. But your numbers are low. The reasons vary from "meh another American Godzilla movie" to "meh too grimdark, I want a Godzilla vs Megalon style movie instead".

I am excited. Very excited :3 :D :)

Shin basically said it all for me.

But if I had to add anything, I guess I'd ask if there's anything in particular that's bugging you about it.

There is nothing about this that DOESN'T excite me.

Up-and-coming director
Trusted movie studio
Great cast
Genre I enjoy
Budget capable of carrying out the intended quality
Clear faith on the part of the studio given the immense push (possibly the biggest for any movie ever) at ComicCon
Proper production schedule
Effects gurus from the Lord of the Rings films involved

I'd be jacked for this even if the name Godzilla wasn't involved. All those factors in a GODZILLA movie? It's like Christmageddon.

^Yeah, this here. Also, am I the only one who thinks "Am I the only one" threads are a complete waste of bandwidth? I mean what's the point? You could've just said this in the main thread.

The fact that so much of the behind-the-scenes stuff is encouraging helps, but I gotta say just the prospect of proper Godzilla on the big screen in a big, new movie does it.

I mean, it's Godzilla! I'm excited because Godzilla!

There is nothing really that is bugging me, I just cannot bring myself to get excited for it for some reason. Maybe they trailer that is going to be shown before The Hobbit will change that. I don't know who is even in the movie cast wise, who the director is, what Godzilla looks like, etc, that is how little I have paid attention to it.

Can you see yourself going into the movie cold, not knowing anything about it? I'd be curious to see what your reaction would be. But it sounds like you're planning to watch the trailer once it's officially out, so I guess we'll find out if that does anything for you.

It's typical Dr. Kain behavior if you've been here long enough. Late responding to threads that have been answered before, etc.

Not knowing who Godzilla looks though? That's cold turkey as f****

This is what Godzilla looks like:

Image

Here's the test footage teaser trailer that was originally screened at Comic-Con 2012: http://vimeo.com/76161028 (enter the code 1954)

The director is Gareth Edwards (Monsters) and the cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, and David Straitharn.

Story by Max Borenstein and David Callaham. Screenplay by Max Borenstein, David Callaham, and Frank Darabont.

Seamus McGarvey is the director of photography, Jim Rygiel is the visual effects supervisor, and Alexandre Desplat is the composer.

Now you're caught up.

Next, Kain will tell us he doesn't know anything about Cranston, or care who he is, and try to play it off like he's a nobody despite the immense success of Breaking Bad.

I mean, if everyone that watched the Breaking Bad finale goes to see Godzilla, at an average of $9 per ticket, that's like $100 million right there in the US alone, not including any repeat views or anything like that.

Cranston's name attached to this is HUGE, it's basically the exact level of star I was hoping for: someone who is a household name, but not so overfamous as to want to just mug the camera and be unable to play a character (ie, Tom Cruise)

Uh dude, excuse me, but I have more on my mind that just Godzilla these days. Things like what am I doing wrong to not get a full time position, how am I going to pay my $40,000 in student loans off in a reasonable amount of time, how to get my g/f to stop being stressed from work all of the time, when am I going to be able to have insurance again so I can get my tooth taken care of, etc.

I'm sorry if I don't go over every post on every page of every topic. There are times it is quicker for me to ask than to search. I'm sorry if that offends you.

Oh, I would go see it regardless. It has Godzilla in the title, so I must see it. It's just that lately, if I have gotten overly excited for a movie (ie The Great Gatsby), I have been finding myself extremely disappointed on a massive level. That is also where one of the things stem from, if I get too excited for this movie, it is only going to lead to massive disappointment. If I go in expecting the worse, like I did with Catching Fire and Thor 2, I have been coming out satisfied.

So that is the official image? I thought that was just some fan made image on facebook.

The director is Gareth Edwards (Monsters) and the cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, and David Straitharn.

I know who Bryan Cranston is, as he is from that Breaking Bad show (which I have never watched) and Malcom in the MIddle, and was just casted for Lex Luthor. I know Ken Watanabe as well, but no idea who the others are nor the director.

and Alexandre Desplat is the composer.

I'll look him up later.

Thanks.

The photo was taken at a licensing expo in Brazil. It spread like wildfire thanks to Facebook and WB had it removed from every genre news website that featured it. Chances are, we'll be seeing that exact image of Godzilla featured on some of the official merchandise in a few months.

Gareth Edwards' only prior directing credit is Monsters (2010), an independent drama with very impressive production values for its minuscule budget. Edwards wrote, directed, and shot the movie and created all of the CGI on his personal laptop. It's on Netflix.

Bryan Cranston hasn't been cast as Lex Luthor. Also, Breaking Bad is freaking fantastic. It's on Netflix too so you can watch it from the very beginning.

I could have sworn I was reading articles last month stating that he has signed on to play Lex in 6 DC movies?

As for Breaking Bad, I'll get around to it eventually. I still need to watch Lost, Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, and Caprica first.

Dropping his name when talking about the movie with non-fans has been a guaranteed way to get their attention. They go from "Oh, that's nice," to "Really?! I might have to see this!" in about a second after hearing his name.

Excitement comes and goes in bursts for me. When a major bit of news - like the Godzilla Encounter coverage or the leaked images and trailers - makes itself known, then I get totally jittery. The rest of the time, my mind is preoccupied with other things.
I guarantee you, when the first official trailer hits, I will be bouncing in my seat. :D

You're joking right? Two of those shows (Smallville and Caprica) are mediocre trash. And as good as both Lost and BSG are, Breaking Bad is infinitely better than either. Get your priorities straight, man.
