^Legion is a top ten (at least) kaiju for me and some people's number one.

With the MUTOs, Edwards has done something that Toho hasn't been able to do in many many years: created a new kaiju that fans are excited to see and are actually talking about

Ok, now let me address my hopes for a sequel. I do hope they venture into a darker route because they really can with the next one. Godzilla wasn't the main threat in this one, but in the next one, he very much could be. Think about it.. Godzilla is an animal at large. A monster that could end the world and that has no apparent way to die. The military would go nuts about him along with the government and the people of the world would perhaps remain forever haunted that a Godzilla attack is possible at any given time. You have also the crazies who want a part of Godzilla, like his skin cells and whatnot.. So what if mankind starts attacking nature and Godzilla as well? This builds up the allegory of mankind being arrogant and destroying nature, thinking that it is still theirs to control. Godzilla becomes hostile then towards man and seeks to obliterate them. With no hope left, Mothra appears and fights for the sake of the humans? It would lead to Mothra still being a hero and Godzilla becoming the anti-hero much more.

I actually hope they keep Godzilla as the "hero" more or less. It's a refreshing take on the character and one of the things I liked most about the movie.

Personally, I could see the sequel taking a Gamera 3-esque route with Godzilla in the sense that no matter how "heroic" he may have been in this film, he's still a giant monster causing godawful collateral damage and people aren't going to take too kindly to that. I think that'd be fantastic, actually.

I would love a sequel to pickup in the wake of this. Very much the way Biollante picked up after Return. A lot of destruction/rebuilding.

There's a bazillion ways this could play out, but the new series makes it easy to introduce new monsters and brings the possibility for King Ghidorah to enter from space. At some point, it would be easy to accept aliens existing if we can accept giant monsters. There could even be other divisions of Monarch we are unaware of which are keeping other beasts from entering the fray as they did with MUTO...or a super weapons division that brings some new ideas into the fray (not necessarily MG). We also have a bioengineering angle..which could of course mean new mutations and such. I don't think any of these ideas are a stretch for the new universe.

Personally, I'd like to see Rodan and Ang make an appearance.

Wasn't there a rumor that LP purchased the rights to 5 Toho kaiju? Did we ever find out which monsters they were?

I personally think Mothra is the next monster they would use only because of her heavy reference in his movie.

Would give all my wants to have a same universe rodan solo film. Rodan could be Legendarys Iron Man, a known but still obscure character. Expand the universe!

I think the Muto's insectoid, cocooning, Moth-similarity, and egg-layin' ways have taken the wind out of Mothra... for the direct sequel, at least.

Edwards has said he'd love to do a film revolving around the 'Monster Island' concept. Maybe the actions of Godzilla and the Mutos draw up some of the other kaiju to the surface world, and something draws them, makes them congregate on one island. Angilas, Rodan, Baragon, Manda... they could be Godzilla's "peers."

I'd love to see Rodan be Godzilla's main opponent.

I like the idea of a hidden faction or splinter group from Monarch, a lot of plot potential there. Give the group a name meaning king/ruler/etc. in a different language, "Archon" maybe (Greek, same root a "monarch")?

I think the unmade Toho movies need to be looked at for sequels.

1) A solo King Ghrioah movie
2)) Bagan
3) Godzilla vs. the Asuka Fortress.

So, any speculation as to what the bones in the beginning of the film belonged to?

Once Serizawa mentioned that there were many prehistoric radiation-feeding creatures around during the time of Godzilla and the MUTOs (paraphrasing), I immediately assumed that those bones didn't belong necessarily to an ancient Godzilla, but something else entirely.

Whatever it was, it obviously had a long tail like Godzilla.

variety also has an update on that 450m number.. Till made a mistake and its actually 380m that the profit starts coming in.

Not sure how I would want the sequel to go yet. I think we should have another new monster though.. But at least add a famous Toho kaiju like Anguirus.

I agree, it's fine to remake another Toho kaiju but another new creature please!!! Pretty please!

Do any of you guys really think they'd feature the new L.P. Godzilla against a revamped King Kong? Really?

I'm seriously doubting any of the Toho stable of kaiju will be used, at least not without major revamping. But Kong? Not in a zillion years.

I would like some older Toho kaiju to return, but I would LOVE it if we get at least 1 new kaiju a movie.
