I do hope we get a soundtrack on CD. I mean, even the 98' film had okay music.

On the subject of Otani and Oshima, I think Oshima's scores were evenly placed throughout her work in the Godzilla films. Each creature and character has a leitmotif and is woven into an overall score. Not unlike Akira Ifukube actually.
I think something like her score would fit better in Godzilla 2014 than Ko Otani's.

I think it's dangerous to say either composer's style or themes would fit in with G'2014 right now. Going off just the leaked teaser trailer I wouldn't pick either one as close representatives for the new film.

When in doubt, go with The Return Of Godzilla

I still say we resurrect Basil Poledouris from the dead and get him to write the score.

I dunno about you guys, but after listening to Desplat's work on Zero Dark Thirty (ESPECIALLY this track:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T66Sdo_U2A), I'm really
really excited for the score.

Anyone got an idea on what theme the Muto should have?

What the HELL kind of question is that?
"I think it should be in 3/4 time under a C# scale with lots of crescendos and maybe some allegro". Seriously. Filter between brain and fingers. You need one.

Allow me to be a contrarian (how unlike me, I know!) and say that it calls to mind a little more something like a military march. Preparation for something. I picture rigging up, equipment readying, etc...
It's awesome sounding for sure, but doesn't hit me with a "destruction sequence" feeling.
