I appreciate the posting of the Desplat interview. It reveals his approach to scoring films, in that he is not just some synth guy cranking out scores made of pieces and parts created by others, but a true musician / composer who takes the time to actually create and orchestrate his material from the ground up.

I found out recently that my Film is Music professor is part of Desplat's orchestra, and he's going in to do work on Godzilla this week. I'll be pressing him for more details after the scoring session.

Well I finally got around to listening to that Zero Dark Thirty theme...I kept waiting for some sort of drop or something but it was just steady.

Lots of brass and drums, sounds like the makings of a Godzilla score to me.

He also says throughout the interview that he approaches films differently based on the genre. He talks about how Moonrise Kingdom is its own thing and Zero Dark Thirty is a thriller, and he doesn't want to just copy his own style from film to film, because you have to make sure thrillers get thriller scores and dramas get drama scores, etc...

I like that. He's certainly thoughtful in that respect.

I know the copyright issue but I think it's funny. =)

I'm sure most Ifukube fans are throwing up in their mouths but I think it is pretty bad ass using Godzilla theme music like that.
