I actually kind of liked the Miki Saegusa character in the Heisei series, but it looks like Millie Bobby Brown will be so annoying that we will be praying she gets stepped on by Godzilla.

I don't want to see her crying or pouting to Vera Farmiga or see her grinning at Godzilla. Will be interesting to see how much screentime she gets compared to the monsters.

We just got a new animated Godzilla movie and the first trailer for the next live-action Godzilla movie both in the same week. There's no reason for any of us to be getting distracted by baseless rumors right now.

.........Well, I admit I'm not quite as hyped as I thought I would be.

First of all, that color scheme is gross; I became sick of Blue & Yellow as soon as I started noticing it in films, and Godzilla 2014's more naturalistic use of color was one of my favorite things about the film. This feels like an immense step backwards.
The dialogue seems pretty flat, too - although this is just a trailer, so there's not that much to go on. I reserve judgement here until I've seen more.

On the plus side, the trailer itself was nicely structured; the choice of music was unexpected, but rather neat; all the monsters look pretty good so far, and they all look like they will OWN their scenes. I'm not hyped, perhaps, but I am optimistic!

I think a lot of people complaining about the dialogue are mostly referring to how it "doesn't make sense" that finding all the monsters will save the Earth...

...and it doesn't...

...BUT, that's also out of context. I feel like Vera Farmiga might wind up being the villain of the film. I think she's gonna be posing as someone interested in finding all the kaiju in order to track them and defend against them in order to ensure humanity's survival, but her goal is going to be a massive culling. Is it a worn out plot idea? Absolutely. Avengers, Kingsman, X-Men, Batman Begins (and Dark Knight Rises), etc etc etc. But does that make it BAD? No. That fits right in with like....a lot of kaiju movies.


I don't KNOW that's going to be the case, but I kinda feel like that might be the case the more I watch it (Kyle Chandler says "You're out of your "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" mind," and she says "I'm sorry but this is the only way," and Millie Bobby Brown calls her a monster)
It's gonna be funny if people are cool with "We're an alien race so we're using kaiju to wipe out humanity," (ie: Monster Zero, DAM, Gigan, Megalon, Mechagodzilla, TOMG, GFW, possibly the anime?...and that's just Godzilla. Most Gamera movies have that plot.) but NOT cool with, "We believe humanity should be destroyed therefore we're going to unleash kaiju in order to do it."

Vera Farmiga's speech helps only to set up the basis of the story, but the logic is not clear. Jelly is right in that she may be the crackpot who believes the release of monsters will to quote 2014 "restore balance" only to find out that she either f'd up big time or is a maniac.
I find it near that she is the one thing in the movie referred to as a monster. Thst point should not,be overlooked. Look at all the cave paintings, Mothra is worshipped, Kong was too, now we see the same for Godzilla and Ghidorah is I my depicted fighting godzilla and Rodan is a "destroyer" type.
A good trailer gives you a concept and raises questions, it should not give answers and that is exactly what we got.

I think it should be worthy to note about the apparent characterization of Vera Farmiga's role in the movie and how it seems to be a well used concept from other stories; someone may have already mentioned it, but in case they haven't, one story source I didn't see mentioned was "Godzilla: the Series." Vera's character seems like a more "realistic" version of the extreme eco-terrorist lady who tried to release all the monsters from the show's version of Monsterland in one of the later episodes. It wouldn't really surprise me if that is exactly what it's supposed to be a nod to.

I like how the dialogue in the trailer is ambiguous. Dr. Emma Russell could be talking about awakening the other monsters to combat Ghidorah and save the planet, or she could be the villain talking about unleashing all of the monsters including Ghidorah to cleanse the planet of humanity. Like a lot of movie trailers in recent years, it's also possible that the dialogue we hear in the trailer could be rearranged or replaced with alternate takes in the finished film.

There were screenshots posted on twitter that showed side-by-side pics of Millie Bobby Brown in Godzilla and Stranger Things with her facial expressions exactly the same, lol. I mean EXACTLY. She's giving the same performance in both projects.

It is amazing how one can evaluate a WHOLE performance in a two minute trailer. Wish I had that gift of insight.

Whatever the source of the individual bits of dialogue, the trailer does a terrific job of positioning the idea of Millie's character being pulled apart by having two parents on different 'sides' in a conflict. Gareth Edwards was going for a Spielbergian tone in his movie, but lacked such a good hook as this, character-wise.

Oh, man. I've always liked the G '14 design, but seeing the dorsal fins retain a more classic shape and size improves it tremendously for me.

For what it's worth I thought the trailer looked good and so did most in hall H ( even the critics). I am curious to know what supposedly is causing this world ending scenario and how the "Titans" can stop it. Really the human actors it's hard to judge. I saw nothing cringewirthy, but the focus of the trailer was in the monsters, where it should be, and that's a good start.

He identifies as a 13 year old girl and tried to audition for the part but Millie beat him because she is recognizable due to Stranger Things.

Or maybe he is part of a group that would enjoy more cruise missiles?

So, I watched the panel (not the other interviews). Mostly boring, honestly. I don’t think it’s the cast’s fault or anything but I mean, you’re not gonna get interesting stuff out of nonsense softball questions like “So, are you excited about the movie?” and “Did you enjoy making the movie?” I mean, do you expect the director/stars to be like “Nah it sucks. Everyone see it anyway!” ?
