^ I love Shin, but I don't want a sequel because I think if you continue the story logically it won't even remotely be a Godzilla movie, and if you bend the narrative to be more of a 'Godzilla Movie' it'll weaken the plot of the first.

And even if they could come up with a workable sequel idea, that would still diminish the impact of Shin's open ending.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

My idea for a Shin Godzilla sequel was that Godzilla would not keep changing forms but his body would continue to sprout new, smaller organisms like the ones seen on his tail. He traverses the globe spawning different kinds of horrific monstrosities everywhere he goes, all of them bearing his DNA and displaying some of his attributes, until Godzilla's out-of-control cellular division has essentially taken over the world.

Then Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters came along and did a spin on that same basic concept without being a Shin Godzilla sequel.

Maybe that explains why I hated the anime with such a fiery passion as I haven't felt since 1998...

An Oxygen Destroyer replica would look rather smart in a nice office, don't you think?

Yes. I'd love to have that on my desk at work and have people as me what it was.

So what the hell is going on with this movie? We haven't heard anything, and King Kong VS Godzilla is already making news online.

^ Godzilla: King of the Monsters began principal photography on June 19 last year and wrapped on September 27. They're in post-production right now. Around Christmas, Michael Dougherty tweeted an image of a sealed crate containing the Rodan maquette. The movie is set to open on March 22, 2019, about 13 months from now. Until then, we've got Pacific Rim: Uprising coming next month, Rampage the following month, and The Meg this August.

And considering Solo comes out in May, and they just released its first trailer a couple of weeks ago so all things considered, we have plenty of time for marketing material.

Are they going to do the whole keep the designs a secret thing again? We need some pics of Rodan, Mothra, and KK to drum up excitement! Also seems like this movie is getting a longer post production compared to other movies. Or maybe because I actually care about this movie so things look like it's movie slower. I could have sworn Jurassic World 2 started filming later and there's already a trailer. Then again, that's coming out this summer.

They haven't kept the designs secret on anything since 1998. The Godzilla design was unveiled quite a bit prior to the movie coming out.

Maybe they kept the MUTOs (slightly) under wraps, but I definitely remember seeing the male before the movie was out. I'm quite sure they won't be keeping them secret, except MAYBE KG...which I'm totally good with. I'd actually like my first time seeing the new KG to be in theaters, as I imagine the reveal will be baller.

Compared to most other modern flicks, this movie definitely has a longer gap time between the start of principal photography and its release date. That might be because it was originally slated to open in June 2018. It's possible that they already had a production timeline laid out when the release was delayed and they decided to stick with their original schedule so nobody involved would need to drop out of this project or cancel any of their other work.

My hope is that the longer post-production window combined with Michael Dougherty's love of practical effects and the hiring of Tom Woodruff Jr. will lead to some impressive practical effects work in the finished product. At this point, CGI is Hollywood's cheaper option and physical effects are the more expensive and time-consuming route.

I've only seen one reaction and the guy gave it a C-

^ Saw that, too. Pretty much the same 'characters lame, monster fights awesome' take a great many folks have given to the three previous Legendary kaiju films, so I can't say I put much stock into it. Also; considering how unfinished the special effects sequences must be how can he even gauge the 'awesome'? Anyway, right now they're just putting this unfinished movie together, so a test screening is more of a guide for how they're going to continue making this movie and not a measure of its quality.

... what's more interesting: the leaked Ghidorah design. I'm at work and don't know how to link to it on this phone, but do a little snooping! It's a radical change in certain aspects and very traditional in others. It's definitely immediately recognizable as KG!

Here's the leaked image of King Ghidorah:

Spoiler Below:

I'm not sure what to make of it yet. It's radically different yet traditional at the same time. We'll have to see it in action as it could go either way but I think they can make this work well.

Oh no.

IMO, that looks more like a MUTO than King Ghidorah. And it doesn't look like the drawing shown at the end of Kong Skull Island.

Why mess up a classic design?

It could work in action. Ghidorah has had a number of radical redesigns over the years in both appearance and posture, walking on two legs, then four legs, then back to two, then back to four. Using his wings as front legs is a hybrid approach that hasn't been done before so it'll be interesting to see how they pull it off. The necks maintain the classic erect silhouette rather than turning him into a hunched-over quadruped. I'm especially interested to see how he looks in flight.

Don't test screeners usually have to sign pretty restrictive NDAs?

Also, that design: I feel like I've seen that before....YEARS ago...I bet if I weren't lazy and dug around, I could find the image I'm thinking of. But alas, I'm lazy AF.

^ I had a bit of deja vu when I saw it too but I think I'm just having flashbacks to all of the secrecy and leaks regarding Kaiser Ghidorah in 2004.

The image is from a video that was just posted to the studioADI (Almagamated Dynamics co-founded by Tom Woodruff Jr.) YouTube channel earlier today.

You can see the computer monitor with the CGI Ghidorah models in the background beginning at the 3:23 mark.
