I’d be pretty happy if Ready Player One just never existed...

After we've seen two anime Godzilla films and a Pacific Rim sequel.

I'd say there's a CHANCE of seeing something before the Pacific Rim sequel.

Like, just before...

Ooooh, that would be quite nice.

Considering the long production time it's certainly doable to have a respectable teaser out one year before release.

A year is a long time out for the first trailer to start playing in theaters. The closest recent example I can recall was when Warner Bros. released the first Batman v Superman teaser in April 2015, eleven months before the movie opened in March 2016. I'd say the marketing campaign for that flick was oversaturated.

My guess is Legendary and WB will reveal the first bit of Godzilla: King of the Monsters footage at next summer's San Diego Comic-Con. It could be a clip or a trailer or an all-out sizzle reel and they may or may not post it online. I think we'll get the first theatrical trailer around this time next year, in October or November, just like we did for Kong: Skull Island and Pacific Rim: Uprising (both fellow March openers).

I think you meant to type "was paid." She didn't pay to be in the movie.
I would, though! Gotta get a million bucks...

I speak in newspaper headlines.

Hey, I'm at work, but what's this people are saying about Dougherty on a podcast saying their are creatures beyond the four main monsters?

Jeez, it's been so long I can't remember. Here's the new Mick Garris podcast interviewing Dougherty:

https://www.podcastone.com/episode/Mike ... io-Argento

Harris asks Dougherty (who's an artist himself) whether he did design work for Godzilla himself, and Dougherty says that he surrounded himself with talented designers who brought ideas better than his own to the four kaiju, but there are additional creatures other than the main four and Dougherty is likely to be more hands-on in the design of those.

Was first clued into this via the Astounding Beyond Belief tumblr:

http://astoundingbeyondbelief.tumblr.co ... gento-from

---- edit ----

Oooh, listening to this and here's an awesome tidbit: Dougherty doesn't want to make a movie that'll look dated in terms of style, and told all his designers to look at things from the '50s to today that are evergreen to create a timeless look.

That said, nice tease MD.....

Nikkei January 13, 2018:
'Godzilla' studio Toho to co-produce content with foreign filmmakers
TOKYO -- Japanese film studio Toho will jointly produce content with overseas peers to get a greater bite of earnings from foreign releases of popular domestic titles.

Toho plans to invest some 15 billion yen ($135 million) over three years starting in 2019 to produce works with Hollywood and Chinese studios of Japanese franchises where it has the rights. Co-productions of Hollywood versions of 2016 animated hit "Your Name" as well as "Pokemon" and "Godzilla" movies are in the works, with more to come.

Toho has had limited involvement in overseas movie production before, notably in Hollywood versions of its well-known monster movie. As a co-producer, it will invest up to 25% of production costs in each project, entitling it to a bigger share of revenue for successful content than just collecting royalties.

Toho will also manage the rights of creators and ensure that their ideas are reflected in the works. The studio also plans to act as broker between other Japanese studios and overseas counterparts in the future.

Japanese anime and dramas have become more popular abroad thanks to online video streaming. But going through services like Netflix makes it hard to increase domestic revenue, even if the content is well received abroad. Toho aims to secure overseas earnings by partnering with foreign studios.

The studio is also known for such classics as Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai," as well as the "Bayside Shakedown" series of police movies.

Okay, those co-productions of Pokemon and Godzilla movies are referring to the films that Legendary is already developing, right? Godzilla: King of the Monsters opens March 22, 2019; Detective Pikachu is set for May 10, 2019; and Godzilla vs. Kong opens May 22, 2020.

Maybe this means that Toho will be more involved with Godzilla vs. Kong as an investing partner than they were/are for Legendary's first two Godzilla flicks? I don't think this article is saying that Toho is developing a Godzilla project to co-produce in Hollywood after Godzilla vs. Kong but it's not clear either way.

The article says, "Toho plans to invest some 15 billion yen ($135 million) over three years starting in 2019", it doesn't sound like that includes the films already in production/pre-production--Though I imagine it could include Kong, but rumors have it that film begins shooting in Atlanta this year.

On the other hand Legendary came in pretty late in the game to co-produce Jurassic World if I recall--Though still before shooting commenced.

It certainly sounds like something post-Godzilla vs. Kong... but yeah, maybe they're joining that film at the eleventh hour. Does this mean a nice Toho logo at the start of the film?

I wonder if the inverse of this may come to pass: foreign investment in Japanese projects?

Here's an interview with O'Shea Jackson, one of the actors of King of the Monsters. Obviously he doesn't go into any details about the plot, but he does tease the final battle between Godzilla and King Ghidorah, which sounds pretty exciting. Just skip to around the 10 minute mark of the interview.

Aisha Hinds character apparently shares scene with Sally Hawkin's character, if this personal pic from behind the scenes is anything to go by:

Naturally, Hinds posted this to congratulate Hawkins on her Oscar nom.

^ That makes sense, Hinds is wearing arctic camouflage in that photo and the Monarch timeline says that Dr. Graham leads the Monster Zero containment and research facility in Antarctica.
