Oh, of course! You know that Godzilla travels beneath the surface of mountains. Just because we don't see him emerge again doesn't mean he lost the fight! I'll bet if they made the movie last a minute longer we would see Godzilla burst out and stomp through Kong's victory parade. Let's count it as a draw because there's just too much uncertainty before our eyes!

O.Supreme wrote:Btw...were you channeling the Superman vs Hulk fight from DC vs Marvel? because That's pretty much what happened. (Superman dropping a mountain on the Hulk to knock him out). I had a close friend at the time who was a zealous Hulk fanatic, and he hated that Superman won. Of course DC V M was as much a popularity contest as much as plausible outcomes of fictional hero battles.

Close. I was channeling the Kong Did Win thread here on this board, specifically the last page in which I dropped a figurative mountain of truth about KKvsG. :P

I just think it's odd that you're bringing up the ending of the '62 film in this thread after you disappeared from this same discussion in that thread last month. I don't want to derail this thread any further so I invite you to continue discussing the outcome of KKvsG back in the appropriate thread in the Showa Era forum. If your conviction that it ends in a draw is based on a factual assessment of the reality of the production, and not rooted in (as you said) a popularity contest, then you should have no problem whatsoever backing that up, point by point.

It helped that KKvsG was the first time Shinichi Sekizawa wrote a Godzilla film. Takeshi Kimura probably would have written a story more along the lines of Frankenstein vs. Baragon.

I always read it had more to do with Honda wanting a more adventurous fantasy feeling like the original Kong as opposed to the dark dreary feeling of Godzilla. He wanted something fun and exciting (I mean, it is King Kong vs. Godzilla) rather than bittersweet and foreboding. Wasn't the film a celebratory anniversary film for Toho as well?

It reminds me of James Whale's approach to Bride of Frankenstein, if the first film scared people he wanted the sequel to be more outlandish and fun.

Not sure if anyone noticed this, but there was a leak of parts of the Godzilla Vs Kong script that appeared on Scified website a couple of days ago. I realize that this website is very well known for its misinformation, but what's interesting is that the article was quickly taken down after it was published. So if you do a Google search on Kong Vs Godzilla leaked, you will see the link to the article, but the article doesn't exist anymore when you click on the link.

I have no idea the authenticity of the leak, but I'm just thinking that if the leak was fake then it probably would've stayed up. Maybe Legendary saw it and quickly had it taken down? Mmmmm. Anyway, here is what I remember from the article. This is just from memory after reading quickly through it, so there are some details that I don't remember.

Spoiler Below:
After the destruction that occurred by the monsters in Godzilla 2, Monarch is taken over by the military. A much bigger Kong (at around 300ft) swims to another island containing other monsters including Rodan and Godzilla. (Possibly monster island?) This is where Kong and Godzilla first meet but don't yet battle. The main battle between Kong and Godzilla takes place in a city. The battle is very fierce. Similar to the original Kong Vs Godzilla, both monsters fall into the sea where their battle continues. Godzilla surfaces, let's out a roar and swims away. There is no sign of Kong. Very interesting, exactly like the original movie but Godzilla surfaces instead of Kong. Also, Dr Serizawa and Dr Vivian Graham were mentioned. So it seems like they will be making an appearance in the movie.

Oh man, that would be hilarious.
Spoiler Below:
How would Godzilla apologists handle it if Godzilla wins in the same way that Kong won in 1962?

Probably BS... but cool if true.

Spoiler Below:
I especially like Rodan surviving Godzilla2! Mothra can die, naturally, as that doesn't stop her from coming back.

Adam Wingard’s MonsterVerse entry Godzilla vs. Kong will reportedly do the majority of its filming in Atlanta, Georgia. Director Wingard promises Godzilla vs. Kong will be dark and intense, and yes the epic monster showdown will have a definitive winner.

Dark and intense?

Not liking the sound of that.

King Kong and Godzilla fighting has always struck me as such an absurd conceit, I just have a hard time imagining any approach working other than comedy.

I'll be happy if I'm proved wrong, of course.

It's also been said to continue the tone from Kong: Skull Island, soooooo honestly I don't really take it very seriously when someone says 'dark and intense' because I think that's so subjective. Like, you could apply that descriptor to the two previous MonsterVerse movies.

It was pulled because it was hacked. The "writer" firmly believed it was real and needed to be reported and went too far. He found the synopsis on Godzilla Reddit, which ironically, was copied fan fiction taken from another member on Scified.

But because Reddit is never wrong that's reason enough to hack multiple websites and get the story out. Obviously.

Not sure about Facebook, but here is a three part animated short fan film that was posted on YouTube. It's pretty brutal and well animated.

Don't want to give anything away to those who don't want to be spoiled. So...

Spoiler Below:
Although I was happy that Godzilla was the winner, I was sad that Kong was killed. I would've been happier if he had retreated instead.

Well, since it is now 2018, it is a good bet that principle photography will commence at the latter half of the year. It should be interesting on who they cast, and who might be holdovers from "Godzilla 2" or even "Kong: Skull Island". In regards to K:SI, I do think that perhaps they may cast older actors rather than aging the likes of Tom Hiddleston or Brie Larsen.

Andi It would be amusing if they have characters named "Arnold Johnson" or even an "Eric Carter" in this movie!

Yes that's the one. Someone had all three of them strung together. It's pretty cool and could make for a good footprint for a fight in the movie. Once Godzilla got in the water it was over!

How's it any sillier than what they normally do? Kong fights dinosaurs, Godzilla fights monsters.

The answer is a little abstract, and comes down in part to how fully developed each of them is as part of a hugely successful independent narrative. Bringing them together feels inorganic in a way that putting Godzilla up against an original monster, or a monster returning from another Toho kaiju flick, does not.

First draft of the script is done. I'm happy that Russio's gotten a second whack at this after his script for the aborted '94 Godzilla.

Interesting how Tanaka gets the 'created by' credit for Godzilla. Of course, we know how many folks it took to perfect the idea of both Godzilla and Kong before they reached the screen in their respective original films.

Well, they now have a working title for this film - "Apex", and a shooting schedule of October 2018 to February 2019. It also implies that the casting may be underway soon:

Ah, I guess referring to both Godzilla and Kong's status as the 'alpha predators' (as the '14 film put it).

Julian Dennison, the young Kiwi actor from Deadpool 2 and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, has been cast in Godzilla vs. Kong!

https://www.thewrap.com/deadpool-2-star ... a-vs-kong/

This news has been circulating a bit over the last 24 hours, but this seems to be the first legit site to report it. I've also heard that Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler are returning and Francis McDormand is being pursued for a role but this article does not confirm that.

Sarah Finn has been the casting director for the Monsterverse (and she has been assigned to this movie as well). She has also been the casting director for the MCU, though "Deadpool" is not part of it, but hence why we are seeing familiar faces in both series. Sarah was also the cd for "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri", so I am not surprised that she is considering Frances McDormand. That would be quite a coup.
