Crazy thing: that architecture where they're filming in Mexico city even reminds me of some of the buildings you see in Fukuoka in Rodan '56!

It sounds like it, but the way the crowd disperses makes me think he was just saying "run now!"

I think it probably will be Rodan that arrives in Mexico, though. Isla de Mona in the Caribbean isn't too far away.

Seeing these current storms bringing about their wrath of destruction is very difficult (prayers to all affected). However, could not help to feel somewhat amused by seeing these "macho" reporters, right in the thick of things, virtually getting themselves half-killed for the story. In this movie, if they send out reporters to cover Rodan's fiery, they may end up like our solider friend! (and I have a strong feeling we will get a scene just like that!).

Awesome! I guess this is so the actors can 'interact' with Godzilla in a scene.

Could it be that the eyes are a bit bigger?

The Bio-goji is 100X better than blockhead Godzilla.

Yeah but the 89 suit is better than almost every other Godzilla design.

^ After the Bio-goji design they never got the proportions right on the Heisei Godzilla even though it's the same basic design through all the films. Made me dislike the design for years even though that initial suit (well, two suits from the same mold, right?) was almost perfect.

The way people are carrying on about that picture is super frustrating. It's a blue block that's not even really a pre-vis. It's likely next to NO indication of the design.

It was originally going to come out in June 2018. Looks like they basically kept the same production schedule, and are just going to shelve it for six months.

Or a film with 4 huge CG monsters requires a long postproduction process. Come on, man.

They're not spending a year and a half in post-production. My point was I thought it was interesting that they didn't move up production at all despite changing the date, it wasn't a criticism.

well when you say "That's a wrap" you think they are done with production.

It means that they've completed principal photography. Next comes post-production work along with any reshoots they end up needing.

It does seem like they started shooting with enough time to meet a would-be June 2018 release date. They probably did stick mostly to whatever production schedule they had drawn up before the release was delayed.

Michael Dougherty confirmed that Godzilla: King of the Monsters will include some practical effects work for the monsters, and they've got the great Tom Woodruff Jr. credited as creature character designer on IMDB. Maybe they're giving themselves a longer post-production phase so they can hone some really ambitious animatronic effects shots for the monsters. We are at a point where that would take more time and effort than going all-CGI (it used to be the opposite).

Warner Bros. already has a full slate in 2018. They've got Tomb Raider and Ready Player One in March, New Line's Rampage in April, Fantastic Beasts 2 in November, and Aquaman in December.

The rest of the calendar is packed with big event movies from other studios. March will also have A Wrinkle In Time and Pacific Rim: Uprising. May will have Avengers: Infinity War and the young Han Solo movie. The Transformers spinoff that originally pushed Godzilla 2 away from June has actually moved to December but June will have Deadpool 2, The Incredibles 2, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is really well-positioned on March 22, 2019 to fill the same niche for moviegoers that Kong: Skull Island did this past March. Kong played to its best-case box office potential when it opened two weeks after Jordan Peele's Get Out, one week after Logan, and one week before Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast. Similarly, Godzilla 2 will open two weeks after Captain Marvel, one week after Jordan Peele's next social thriller, and one week before Disney's live-action Dumbo.

I'd say there's a CHANCE of seeing something before the Pacific Rim sequel.

Like, just before...

I'm optimistic that having such a long time frame between wrapping principal photography and release will leave a lot of time for effects sequences to be done really well, and any required reshoots to be solidly integrated into the film, as well as giving time to maybe tinker with the story and think about whether everything is REALLY working.

It seems a little early to be done, but there are still reshoots, effects sequences, and the possibility that they want to put something together for next year's SDCC that's maybe a little more elaborate?
