New DuckTales series from Disney

Postby lhb412 » Wed Feb 25, 2015 10:29 am

Here's the news:

http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2 ... disney-xd/

I'm a huge fan of the Uncle Scrooge comics, so naturally my inclination is to bring the show more in-line with the Carl Barks/Don Rosa stories, but I also realize I just have to relax: Uncle Scrooge and DuckTales are related but different, and the cartoon brought in a whole lot of fans for the comic, so I can't complain.

... but I would love it if Huey, Dewey, and Louie lived with Donald instead of with Scrooge in his mansion (comics Scrooge is so cheap he doesn't even live in a mansion: he sleeps in a spare room at his office).

... also get Magica's (Italian) and Flintheart's (South African) accents right.

... and make the Beagle Boys more competent and threatening and less comical.

Okay, okay, I'll stop.

Really excited for this, hopefully they keep the old theme and don't do anything too drastic design-wise.

I feel like not having the theme song will cause a nerd revolt that even Disney wouldn't be able to handle.
Cervantes smiled Spain's chivalry away;
A single laugh demolished the right arm
Of his own country; — seldom since that day
Has Spain had heroes.

where did all the happy endings go?, where could all the good times be.

DuckTales Reboot

Postby mr.negativity » Thu Feb 26, 2015 4:01 pm

New animated series based on "DuckTales" will launch on Disney XD in 2017
Jim Hill wrote:Yep. An all-new "DuckTales," an animated comedy series based on the Emmy Award-winning series treasured by a generation of viewers, has been ordered for launch in 2017 on Disney XD channels around the world. Set to be produced by Disney Television Animation, this new series will once again feature that feathered tycoon / adventurer Scrooge McDuck, his plucky grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, and -- of course -- "Unca" Donald Duck.

" 'DuckTales' has a special place in Disney's TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks' comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults," said Marc Buhaj, Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager, Disney XD. "Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation."

Mind you, Disney's relaunch of this much-beloved Disney Afternoon series wasn't entirely unexpected. Ever since Capcom & Disney Interactive released that "DuckTales Remastered" game back in August of 2013 (Not to mention how Uncle Scrooge's Lucky Dime and Money Bin popped up as pieces of the Disney Infinity universe), there have been whispers that The Walt Disney Company was planning to return to Duckburg.

But today's announcement -- which confirms that not only will Scrooge and his family be back but virtually the entire original "DuckTales" supporting cast (As in: Scrooge's faithful butler, Duckworth; ingenious inventor Gyro Gearloose; crash-prone pilot Launchpad McQuack; Scrooge McDuck's arch-nemesis Flintheart Glomgold; greedy sorceress Magica DeSpell; Ma Beagle and her bumbling brood, the Beagle Boys. Not to mention the nephew's nanny Mrs. Beakley and her granddaughter Webbigail Vanderquack) -- is really more than fans of 1980s-era Disney Television Animation could have ever hoped for.

But as to whether this relaunch of "DuckTales" will be done in hand-drawn animation (which is what the original 100 episodes that Disney Television Animation produced from 1987-90 were done in) or in CG, or whether any of the veteran voice actors who originally voiced Duckburg residents (EX: Alan Young, June Foray, Tony Anselmo and Russi Taylor. To name just a few) will be asked back to return to voice these much-beloved characters for this next set of shows ... Disney Channel officials weren't willing to say. Not yet, anyway.

Disney loves their voice cast so if they can't get the original folks back the ones they will get will be damn near pitch perfect facsimiles.

I'm just wondering, if this is a success does that mean we could be seeing new Chip N Dale: Rescue Rangers, Tale Spin, and/or Darkwing Duck series?

Could be good. As long as it's more Alvin and the Chimpmunks and less G-Force or Smurfs. But we better get Gadget, Monterey, and Zipper as well as the titular duo. It'd be even better if they made references to the two Rescuers movies that the series seems to be founded on.

This is great, I'm curious about Donald being part of the main characters, I't could work. Maybe we even get a croosver with Darkwing Duck and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rngers.

Of course it can: it's the setup of every Uncle Scrooge comic for the last 65 years!

Image

The folks who made the original DuckTales decided at some point they they wanted the emphasis entirely on Scrooge and HDL, and Donald was shipped off. Some of Carl Barks' greatest comics starred Donald (The Ghost of the Grotto, Lost in the Andes, Vacation Time, The Golden Helmet, A Christmas For Shacktown), so having him as a main character opens up a whole lot of stories to adapt.

I haven't actually watched DuckTales in years, I was a lot more into Darkwing Duck just because I was like two years old when DuckTales was on and five when Darkwing was out. This is an awful good excuse to go get the DVDs!

First look at the new show!

... and with Donald prominently featured and Scrooge's coat back to its comics-accurate color scheme I'm certainly hopefully that it'll hew a bit closer to the books!

Looks fantastic. The art style is very retro and definitely Barksian, and folks working on the show say that Carl Barks and Don Rosa volumes populate the show's writing room, with several 'dog-eared' copies of Rosa's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck present. An example of this fidelity (besides the now comics-accurate red coat for Scrooge): the logo for the Junior Woodchucks Guidebook and Reservoir of Inexhaustible Knowledge is straight outta the comics - the Junior Woodchucks of the World acronym that, upside down, looks like an image of the Egyptian god Thoth.

Of course, not everything is comics accurate: Launchpad and Webby were characters unique to DuckTales, and both look great. Launchpad was a great character anyway (even Rosa, who's called DuckTales a 'counterfeit' version of Uncle Scrooge, likes him!), but Webby was a very annoying character it looks like they've improved substantially by making her an equal to the boys instead of a babyish tagalong. Huey, Dewey, and Louie all look to have separate personalities, too, whereas in the comics the act as a single character, often finishing each other's sentences or speaking in unison like the Shobojin. I understand that works easier on the page.

Wow! I was hoping for Craig Ferguson, but this is just as great. Steller voice cast. I assume Donald will be done by... err, whoever Disney has doing the voice now.

Looks great! Animation style similar to the Mickey shorts with a bit of Gravity Falls mixed in!

And now, things I geeked out as a Scrooge comics fan: Those are Carl Barks paintings on the wall! Scrooge recites his 'smarter than all the smarties' line from Uncle Scrooge #1! This show adopts the conceit from Don Rosa's Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck that Scrooge has been retired and almost forgotten before roused back into action by his nephews!

... but, sadly, it appears Glomgold is still Scottish (we see a rather rotund Glomgold from the back for a few seconds wearing the same Scotsman garb he did in the original show).

^Donald out in front! I hope they'll adapt some of Barks' best Donald Duck focused stories now that he's be reestablished as a main character. I'd love to see Lost in the Andes, Ghost of the Grotto, The Golden Helmet, Vacation Time, etc.

Noticed another Barks reference in that teaser: the rhino (ridden by Huey, Dewey and Louie and with a flag tied to his horn) from 'So Far and No Safari.'

THR MAY 19, 2017 8:00am
Lin-Manuel Miranda Joins Voice Cast of 'DuckTales' Reboot
Kimberly Nordyke wrote:He joins Disney XD's animated series alongside David Tennant, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan and more.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is getting animated.

The Hamilton creator has joined the voice cast of Disney XD's upcoming DuckTales reboot.

Miranda, said to be a "lifelong DuckTales aficionado," will provide the voice of Gizmoduck, who was featured in the original series. Gizmoduck is Duckburg hero whose true identity is Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, a brilliant young intern working for Scrooge McDuck's personal mad scientist, Gyro Gearloose.

"Lin came to mind instantly for the role of Gizmoduck," executive producer Matt Youngberg said. "His rapid-fire earnestness paired with his wide-eyed yet determined optimism made him the perfect person to yell 'Blathering blatherskite!'"

Added co-producer and story editor Francisco Angone: "Growing up as a Cuban-American comics enthusiast, I was always hungry for a Latino hero to call my own. In developing the new series, Matt and I leapt at the opportunity to adapt DuckTales' marquee hero into a young scientist character with Latin-inspired roots."

Like the original, the new DuckTales will follow the adventures of Scrooge McDuck; his curious and mischief-making grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie; the temperamental Donald Duck; and their trustyteam, Webby Vanderquack, Launchpad McQuack and Mrs. Beakley.

Miranda will recur alongside a voice cast that includes David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck; Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz and Bobby Moynihan as Huey, Dewey and Louie, respectively; Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack; Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack; and Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley.

The series, produced by Disney Television Animation, has already been picked up for a second season ahead of its summer premiere.

The casting adds another Disney credit to Miranda's resume. He was nominated for an Oscar for best original song "How Far I'll Go," from the Disney film Moana, and has a role in the studio's upcoming Mary Poppins sequel.
