^I can't disagree more. Steven Universe offers a variety of strong and interesting female characters that is practically unsurpassed in an animated series not explicitly aimed directly at a female audience. All the Jems are distinct personalities and the mythology behind them is the driving force behind the show's plot, and when you add the other female characters like Connie and Sadie you have one of the most diverse and inclusive casts of women (race, body type, personalities, err... superpowers) on TV.
Steven is the main character, sure, but his entire quest is to become a valuable member of the team. The stories we see in the episodes largely revolve around his involvement, but in the background we see that the Jems are always going on missions without Steven (much to his consternation). It's a series in which a young, male character aspires to be like his female mentors.
