^ ?? I kind of thought he already was considering there isn't any SW animation outside of those two... :? (unless that includes future projects as well...which I assumed he would be involved with anyway)

Anyway...season 3 premiered this past week. It was interesting, mostly a set up episodes for many threads throughout the whole season. Thrawn is a pretty good interpretation of the character, I just hope it pays of in the end. The Bendu was an interesting character, would like to se more of him in the future

I had quite high anticipation for "Ghosts of Geonosis", but I had no idea this would be a Saw Gerrera story. Odd how they keep using dialogue and scenes from the Rogue One trailer that were not in the actual film. This doesn't have me as excited as with past reveals, but It still looks interesting. I like how they have played Thrawn so far, using him very sparsely. I just hope all the build up to whenever he decides to execute his endgame is worth it.

Watched the latest 2-parter. "Ghosts of Geonosis" Saw's voice didn't sound like Forrest Whitaker at all (supposedly it was voiced by him). It was an okay story...kind of anti-climactic though. One thing I did love was that we as the viewers for once knew something that none of the characters did (what Klik-Klak was drawing in the dirt), and they never figured it out either. Also since this would have been in-between the time when Saw was occasionally looking after Jyn, or keeping her in hiding, it would have been nice to get a passing reference to her, but alas none, even Skywalker (Anakin) gets a passing reference, but no Jyn, too bad.

I think its pretty obvious by the last couple of episodes that the finally will probably be Darth Maul confronting Obi-Wan on Tatooine, perhaps threatening his whole 15-17 years he's spent in hiding, watching Luke. Cant wait to see where it goes from here.

So anyone still watching this show  . I know its extremely popular, but doesn't seem to be so much on this forum, but that's ok, I know we all have our varied interests...

Anyway...just got caught up on about a months worth of episodes. But the most recent one...Twin Suns which just aired this past weekend, I definitely have mixed feelings about it.

Of course I don't blame any of this on anyone having to do with the show, I blame this squarely on Disney. This is Strike 2 now.

With the Purchase of Lucasfilm, yes Disney has given (IMHO) two solid new films in the franchise which are really good. But...Strike 1 was ending, and illegitimating the EU, strike 2 now is messing around with the long term plans of characters in shows which are supposedly "canon"... I mean I've enjoyed Star Wars all my life....but 3 strikes and you're out, I'm done.

Next Week is the two part season Finale. We are seeing the beginnings of the Rebel Alliance now, and no doubt Thrawn will prove to be quite formidable. I'm looking forward to it. I just hope my high expectations are not met with disappointment.

The show as a whole is okay. It's VERY up and down. I always get to a point where I say "One more bleh episode, I'm done." and then they'll rip off like 2 or 3 good ones in a row.

I guess if we had gotten to see Clone Wars continue, and some of the things Maul did as leader of Mandalore etc... it would not have been so bad, but we didn't and it just makes what happened feel kind of anticlimactic. but...I do agree with the up and down nature of the show. I'm fairly confident this weekends season finale will be pretty awesome.

^ wow, that's kind of sad...and surprising. But I guess it makes sense if they do another one year time skip and each season takes place over the course of a year, then by the end of season 4 Ezra would be about 20 (he's one day older than Luke & Leia), and if they took the series all the way up until before then events of Rogue One, that would be satisfactory I suppose...

I wonder if there is another animated series in the works...or perhaps animated films, or Disney is just putting all its stock in films and there theme park attractions, :? .

^I feel that right now Disney/Lucasfilm will keep an animated series going for merchandising purposes. Clone Wars was between Episodes 2 and 3, Rebels is between 3 and 4 - what time period seems likely for exploitation going forward? I could totally see them doing a series between 6 and 7 focusing on rebuilding the Republic with the main Star Wars characters at the periphery of the action.

Finally watched the season finale! Loved it, and I'm looking forward to Season 4. I never read any of the Thrawn stuff, but I've slowly grown to like him. Enough that I wouldn't mind owning that six inch figure coming out this year.

As for books with Thrawn, there is really only the Thrawn Trilogy/Heir to the Empire Trilogy. These novels were written by Timothy Zahn and were the first three books for the Star Wars Expanded Universe when it was set up in the early 90s (now under the Legends label).

-Heir To The Empire
-Dark Force Rising
-The Last Command

Later Zahn wrote the Hand of Thrawn duology which are:

-Specter of the Past
-Vision of the Future

Disney finally brought Timothy Zahn on board and his first book in the new official Star Wars canon was just released last week Star Wars: Thrawn.

See, I felt the opposite about this Thrawn guy. He constantly talked in the most monotone voice possible for 20 episodes and accomplished absolutely nothing. He just kept losing every time and then made the excuse, "Oh, I meant for that to happen." He made the Inquisitors look exciting.

Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing what the final season brings. I wonder if it do another time jump to lead into Rogue One.

As a whole, I thought Seaosn 3 was good, but a tad of a let down. The Maul storyline was utter pointless and there was no payoff whatsoever to the final battle with him.

Star Wars Rebels has become the “try to make Rogue One seem better by filling in plot holes, character arcs, and embellish story points” show.

Since Rogue One they’ve done a bunch of episodes with its characters and the construction of the Death Star and making “the plot thicken” because Rogue One was too "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" lazy to tell a complete story with actual characters.

So look forward to Star Wars nerds telling you that Che Guerrrera isn’t a flimsy character because something something from Rebels, or that the story isn’t rushed and circumstantial because it was established “years” before in an episode of Rebels.
Also, this takes away from Rebels as a show unto itself and furthers the “smallest galaxy of all time where everyone knows everyone” problems that have plagued Star Wars.
Gills.

Re: Star Wars Rebels

I blame this mostly on Disney rather than show producers such as Dave Filoni. I mean the character of Saw was first seen in The Clone Wars before Rogue One was even thought of. Why he was randomly chosen to be in Rogue One, and have all these crossover episodes with Rebels is beyond me. I mean Rogue One is now the lead up to A New Hope, and its only natural that I would think that Rebels would end just prior to the events of Rogue One, but Filoni said they aren't doing that...so...I just enjoy the show for what it is. Filoni is in his own way very much a Rebel. He defied Lucas himself with keeping Ashoka alive. He defied Disney and Kathleen Kennedy by fighting for and adding many elements of the EU, they prefer fans would have abandoned. I've seen what Disney has done with their Marvel animation studios, make all their properties generic hybrids of the Marvel live action films. The fact that the animated series are pretty much spoilers for the Live Acton films, yet nobody is talking about them is either a testament to how bad those shows are because nobody is watching, or those that are watching just don't care. Star Wars Rebels I fear will be the last of its kind. If there is another show in the future, I fear it will not have the same feel/tone as did The Clone Wars or Rebels, it will just be a generic movie filler, which Rebels very much is NOT.

Well, It's hard to believe, not quite 4 years has passed. 4 seasons and 75 episodes later the show is over. The conclusion was not quite what I was expecting, but it does make for a lot of potential of what the next series *could* be...

Admittedly, the final few episodes with the Loth Wolves was not quite my taste. It was established early on that part of Ezra's Jedi abilities was a strong connection to animals, but there were some things that just didn't quite feel like *Star Wars*, if that makes any sense... Also you run into the trap of thinking...how are all of these characters going to die? (because obviously we did not see them in the OT), but the fact that most of them live raises an eyebrow. (Now waiting for RotJ new shots showing The Ghost in the space battle at Endor... ) Sure you get Ezra and Thrawn out of the picture by way of whale-hyper-space, but the ending tie-up indicating they are all alive and well post RotJ, and that a search for Ezra will begin begs the question...will all these characters have interactions with the major players in the 30 year gap between RotJ & TFA?

While Yoda never met Ezra in person, they communicated through the force, and Obi-Wan DID meet Ezra, so to say that Luke was the last of the Jedi is now canonically untrue (They cant even use the excuse of *unknown* scattered Jedi since they both at least would have been aware of Ezra) . I guess you could say he was never *knighted*, but then technically neither was Luke. The quick easter egg reference to Captain Paelleon was cool, but as of right now, since it is still so fresh, I'm not exactly sure how to feel about the end. I bet Dave Filoni gets great pleasure in knowing that Ashoka not only survived Order 66, but also is now confirmed alive post RotJ (remember Lucas wanted her dead by the end of Clone Wars...)

I fully expected this series to lead right up to Rogue One, but I guess fans that didn't want that will be pleasantly surprised.

I have only watched the first half hour of the finale so far.

I still feel like this ending is feeling rushed. There doesn't seem to be enough THRUST to get us to a finale of ANY kind, even season, let alone SERIES.

And this is not to say I'm particularly saddened to see this series end. It's been a mixed bag for me overall, and I probably would have jumped out had it not been slated to end this year, just would want something more...impactful(?) properly built-to(?), final (?) all of the above (?) from a SERIES finale.

I doubt I'll dip back into Star Wars TV though. Especially in cartoon form. At the end of the day, these things are designed for kids, and the multiple episodes of just hitting the status quo and making sure everything is the same at the end as it is at the beginning don't justify the handful of plot progressive stories for me. It's had its moments for sure, but nowhere near enough of them for me to continue watching a series like this.
Gills.
