With classes done I finally had time to kick back and enjoy my Looney Tunes Golden Collection vol. 3.

This collection, more than the previous two (which I also loved), best replicates my childhood Looney Tunes experience. I wasn't too familiar with the '50s cartoons (in fact, I probably only saw Duck Dodgers and What's Opera Doc with their inclusion in the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie compilation film), becuase untill 1997 Cartoon Network didn't air them and by that time (age 9) I was becoming more into Star Wars and the like rather than cartoons so my best cartoon-watchin' days were over at that point.

This collection is all about the '40s Bugs Bunny cartoons, old Hollywood parodies and late '30s early '40s Daffy Duck and Porky Pig cartoons - just like I remember.

Oh, and I just found out the '70s Looney Tunes Christmas special is a bonus feature on Golden Collection vol. 5, which I happen to be getting on Christmas! That was a childhood staple. I remember being sooo upset when I lost the tape with that on it.

^Well, obviously that's not the case - I hope they're gearing up for a big push when this show does come out.

In related news: the three CGI Road Runner/Coyote cartoons released in theaters recently will be a part of the next Looney Tunes DVD collection:

A moderator at the Toon Zone message board snagged this image from the currently under contruction official site (note the misprint, as the 2nd is Saturday, not Monday):

Also, apparently CN will be showing Space Jam and Looney Tunes Back in Action later this month and rumors persist of a sneak preview of the new show.

They look rather Ren & Stimpy-ish.

I think it's good they're giving them unique designs. Each of the different directors of the classic Looney Tunes shorts drew them differently, and for that matter they changed rather radically over time, too.

I'm glad they're going against the genericized designs they've been using for decades.

The new designs are about the only thing that has me interested in this project.

CN has started airing promos for their classic LT block - suggests they might be thinking about making it a permanent part of the schedule?

Website for the new Looney Tunes show is up, with tons of clips:

It looks really good. I hope it's a hit and precipitates a rivival of interest in Looney Tunes.

I hate Cartoon Network's website, but what I did see on some of the clips I think this could be pretty interesting. Can't wait to see a full episode.

^They have two full 2-minute CGI Road Runner/Coyote shorts from the show. They both are really good, but I mention it because in the first one there is a Godzilla reference: Wile E. Coyote uses growth formula (courtesy the Acme corporation) to catch the Road Runner. As soon as Wile E. is kaiju size the soundtrack becomes all Ifukube-esque for the rest of the scene.

it's part of the reason why kids are such major tools today.

I find it horrifying that most kids today have never seen a looney tunes cartoon on tv.

I don't really know if I like this or not, it's just...kind of okay, but I'll give it a few more chances.

^My thoughts too. And I'd already seen the best bits in previews for the last month or so.

Though I did love seeing the Goofy Gophers.

Three new CGI Looney Tunes shorts this year, one of which will be an animated version of Daffy's Rhapsody, a single by Mel Blanc from the '50s - they'll be using that old audio, meaning: the return of Mel Blanc as the voice of Daffy Duck!

Saw the last two episodes (the Taz and Foghorn Leghorn epps) and I feel the show is really finding it's feat and more sucessfully blending the sitcom and Looney Tunes elements (whereas the first few were straight sitcom). I also enjoyed the return of the more violent nature that LT should always have: the Foghorn Leghorn episode ending with duel fistfights between Foghorn/Daffy and Sam/Bugs.
