Platinum Collection vol. 2 has a great set-list, including ten never released on DVD shorts and some neat sounding extra features - including, apparently, a selection of Tex Avery's MGM cartoons!

I hope this is testing the waters for a Tex set.

Greetings All,

I just have been doing some research on Merrie Melodies & Looney Tunes releases on DVD/BRD. Its kind of a sad state of affairs that basically Warner has stated that "there is no longer any budget" to restore the old classics...Really? But anyway...a couple years back I was able to get the "Golden Collection" box set that contains Volumes 1-6 for a fairly decent price (Basically 24 DVD's containing a total of 360 toons plus quite a bit of bonus material). But as you may know, this is far from complete. There have been numerous other releases.

The three "platinum" collections (on Blu Ray) were kind of a bust since they contained mostly toons already released on previous DVDs and I'm not going to double dip for a total of maybe...a dozen new cartoons out of 150.

However I did find that of the nine "Superstars" single disc releases, seven of them contain mostly all new cartoons, so I will be getting those seven soon.

So...if there is anyone in the know out there, are there any other DVD's worth getting aside from the Golden Collections, and seven of the nine Superstars releases, that will give me the most bang for my buck? (basically anything containing 90% or more new material?) any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.

The only other release that's mostly shorts unique to that release is the Chuck Jones Mouse Collection, which has all the Sniffles (early Chuck) and Hubie and Bertie (later Chuck) cartoons.

Although the Platinum Collection Blu-Rays are mostly seen as either a failure or double dipping (how can it be double dipping when it's a new format?) they're actually my favorite of the Looney Tunes home video releases, largely because I think the grouping of the shorts is really satisfying.

I hope one day Warner will do HD masters of all the cartoons for archival/download purposes and then maybe we'll see a true 'complete collection' from the Warner Archive

Just found out the touring Chuck Jones exhibit is at my local art museum until next month! Gotta make time to see that.

So, after nearly 40 years of floundering on TV and movies with countless reboots, they finally had the courage to try to recreate the classic style. I really hope they can make it work.
