It is far from certain that this film will ever be made. This has been 'in the works' for a long time, mostly in America. As of now, there is no money committed to it, and I am skeptical that anyone would throw money at this kind of project. And if you thought the original film was pyschedelic or offbeat, it is actually as tame as an episode of The Donna Reed Show compared to the bizarre stuff that is planned for this one. As a result, I can't imagine who will invest in this, but stranger things have happened.

I was shocked to see it ever mentioned in a public forum as it was supposed to be kept quiet.

Good luck to Mr. Banno, but this one falls in the category of I'll-believe-it-when-I-see-it.

Kind of surprised that this thread hadn't been revived. Is everyone waiting for what Banno will say at G-Fest before weighing in? I'm not going to be there, so hopefully someone from this board who will be there will fill us in ASAP.

I looked up Banno on imdb, and don't see any recent producer credits. Has anyone seen any of his previous 15 IMAX efforts? How about this Robert Holden fellow? Is he based in the States, and have any of the "connected" folks that frequent this board tried contacting him?

Anyone have any opinions on what Godzilla will look like? Will they go retro with him?

BTW, I did see The Polar Express this past winter at an IMAX in 3D. It was great! If this project comes to fruition, I can't wait to see how they utilize the format. Hopefully they'll do some stuff to give the audience the sense that they're at ground level amongst the monsters. One scene that comes to mind is the "That's my house!" moment from GxMG. Imagine the house debris flying out of the screen in 3D (or for that matter the blown up jet crashing into the house scene in GMK).

Oh, and the sound system of an IMAX theater!

I really, really hope this happens.

I heard from Tokyo Monsters Forum that this one member attended to Banno's speech, and this is what he gave us...


1. Godzilla's in CGI. No, he will not be GINO, he will still be the Japanese Godzilla, but just in full CGI.

2. A new monster called "Desera", so I guess it's not called "Deathla" after all. It appears that it starts out as swarms of Locusts that ravage the rainforest, but during the battle with Godzilla in New York, they transform into a giant monster.

3. The budget for this film is around $10 million.

Don't forget Desughidorah = Death Ghidorah. I'm pretty sure the name will still be Deathla/Deathra, which is kind of a lame name.

Other than that, sounds cool! I wouldn't mind a CGI Godzilla; it could look really awesome (especially since it's not GINO), but I would still like to see some suitmation.

I'm kind of sad we're not getting to see Hedorah. He got the shaft in Final Wars and now he's not gonna be in the new Banno film... but, I applaud any effort to create a new, different kaiju for Godzilla to fight. I like the locust thing, though it does sound kind of like the Maganula swarm. I wonder what "Desera's" final form will look like?

And Godzilla flying again?! In a generation where Godzilla does 100 mile high jumps and soccer goalie moves, anything is possible!
