Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters *SPOILER* Thread

Personally, I didn't think Planet of the Monsters was all that bad. Yes I was disappointed in it, and think they could've done a lot better, but I'm hopeful for the sequel to be an improvement.

I still would've preferred either an anime movie series, or even an anime TV series in the same league as the showa or the hesei series. A continuation would've been really cool. But I think no one outside the fanbase would've watched something like that. Planet of the Monsters is probably aimed at today's video game generation more than anyone else.

i spend too much time looking at Godzilla merch online, and before the international Netflix release i had noted that interest in Shin Godzilla merchandise had already retaken the lead from the much newer Anigoji stuff, which seems to me to indicate a lack of interest in Japan as well.

I’m sadly there with Toho. Tokyo SOS was blah, Final Wars I had fun with but it’s a train wreck, didn’t like Shin, loathed the anime more than I loathe Transformers Revenge of the Fallen....

Legendary is the only thing keeping me engaged with Godzilla. If not for that, I really wouldn’t care. That bums me out so hard, but Toho doesn’t seem to really understand the character in an appealing way anymore. To them he’s just a big walking mountain and that’s so boring I just can’t get into it at all.

i have yet to meet a Godzilla film i dislike, but you could argue Toho hasn't known what to do with the franchise at multiple points starting with GRA. They do keep trying new things which is great, because you don't end up with remakes or the franchise dropping into complete obscurity
