i am not anticipating either unseating a previous design in my preferences. As long as they move better than Kaizer Ghidorah, i will be able to point to that as a positive

Heard some spoilies on Part 2 of the City on the Mobile Edge of Breeder Battle of the Planet of the Monster Planets and just...

....just....

....just wow.

Wow.

Spoiler Below:
The movie centers around rebuilding Mechagodzilla. So most of the movie is them rebuilding it, while the main character walks through the jungle and narrates the rebuilding process....then they get Mechagodzilla up to 25% complete and Godzilla shows up and blows it up before it can be finished so they never actually fight.

EDIT: In addition, at a showing one individual went to, they handed out polls for people to take for a chance to win a poster. One of the questions was: "What are you most looking forward to?" and one of the answer selections was "Godzilla fighting Mechagodzilla"

This is some next-level TROLLING

I can't wait to see everyone try to convince themselves how good that is.
DICSLAIMER: It IS second-hand information, and the source is a rather grumpy individual, so, it might be kind of an exaggerated description, but...yeah. LOL it's like a troll job in film form. Though a second person now has corroborated.

If I posted a picture of my thoughts I'd probably be banned because it'd be a picture of poop. Wet sloppy poop.

Seeing it pictured by itself, it's really just the shape of the head and the extra body spikes that differ from Godzilla's form. In that second picture, the extra body spikes jutting out diagonally seem to help maintain the Godzilla-esque body silhouette from a low angle while the dorsal fins are out of view. I like it.

Yeah, the only review in English I've seen basically boils down to "characters more interesting, action sequences more exciting," but also that it isn't substantially different enough from the first installment to win over folks who outright hated the setup (sorry, Jelly!).

Seems like crossover between this board and Toho Kingdom has gone down since I last actively posted on either, but I wanted to link this here for anyone who doesn’t check TK. I saw the movie this weekend and have put up a review and summary.

https://www.tohokingdom.com/forum/viewt ... 0#p1557460

Heavy spoilers, so click with care! Bottom line: I really enjoyed it! Not genre-transcendent, but an interesting use of the material and a tense, well-executed movie. Looking forward to the third.

I was pretty excited by/interested in the idea of an anime Godzilla, but this has been the worst thing to come from this franchise ever for me. I’d rather a Shin sequel, and I’d kinda hate the idea of a Shin sequel

I can say, as a whole, that for those who dug the basic premise and direction of the first film, this one is more interesting in just about every way.

For those who were put off because they wanted a more traditional take, this one will probably leave them even colder.

^ My issue with the first film isn't that it isn't a traditional Godzilla film, it's that it isn't a traditional film in any narrative sense. I guess you can pull off a "story in 3 parts" if it's a miniseries released over a couple days, but to space these entries out so far apart and call them a film trilogy isn't doing anyone any favors.

I'll grant that it's hard to view any of the two out so far as stand-alone films, and for some people that may be more irksome than others. With the release and presentation the run has, though, with limited theatrical releases and primarily being set for streaming services, I think they're paced and structured well. You just have to approach them with different expectations than you would a mass-release stand-alone film.

Consider it a three-part OVA, or mini-series, though I think each part so far has at least felt more substantial than just being an episode, and I'm glad I got to see the this one on the big screen. And there is self-contained conflict, and resolution, and development.

Sure, though, at the end of the run it isn't going to feel like Godzilla 32, 33 and 34. They'll collectively be "the anime trilogy," as a kind of thirty-second entry. But, you know ... whatever? It's a problematic approach for marketing and sales, but I don't think it's going to be something to hold against them long-term. If it isn't something you'd shell out for in a theater, though, being unsure if you like where it's going, fair enough--no one should be obligated to commit themselves to a part two just because they sat through a serialized part one.

(Amazingly, we've had Godzilla films intended to be mass-release stand-alones with even more baffling narrative structures than this. (Pick your Tezuka film.) Not to say that these are only enjoyable in comparison.)

Well I guess early reports that the 2nd movie would be up on Netflix this week were somehow mistaken.
Oh, well I guess I will see it when it comes on there eventually.

While I might be in the minority, I thought the first movie was really well done.
I like the style they are using, and making Godzilla truly HUGE is cool as heck.
The dub is really well done as well (I still kinda prefer that option on a first view of any anime).

^ It was The Hollywood Reporter mis-phrasing the fact that there was a festival screening this week.

When I watched the first movie a second time I did so with the dub and enjoyed it a lot more. I'm gonna go dub first with the next one.

^July 13 or 20 is going to be my prediction (the first film appeared on Netflix exactly 2 months after the Japanese release date), the two Fridays I have listed would be within that timeframe. I could be wrong, but just basing it on the pattern of release of the first film

Other thread pointed out it was released on a Wednesday the first time...so July 18 would be like, exactly the same release as the first one.
