Highly doubt a sequel will happen. However, I'm lying if I said I'm not having some tremendous fun trolling the FB pages about it never happening.

Without even seeing this movie I would love to see some restraint on Toho's part and let be it a standalone and try for another take on the character.

I mean, we have an Godzilla anime right around the corner... So that is pretty fresh yo...

I'm going to see the film tonight. But I'd just rather prefer this be a stand alone similar to GMK. I'd like to see them go back to something more traditional. TPC has shown the ability to recreate showa era suits with stunning accuracy, I don't see why Toho could not. I'd love to see a brand new Showa-style Godzilla, with some classic and new Kaiju.

Given how positively audiences responded to this film, I think we're more likely to get a sequel than another standalone. And frankly, I'd like to see a Kaneko-style trilogy of films. The filmmakers were able to get weird with the character without turning viewers off, so I'd love to see where they go with it.

I enjoyed Shin Godzilla for what it was. It was fun and enjoyable, but honestly I do not want to see a sequel. I think it was good as a one shot, just to have something crazy and different. But I would love to see Toho go back to the classic Godzilla that I've loved and enjoyed so many years since I was a kid. I also want Toho to finally go back to a Godzilla movie series where the story of one movie is continued to the next, like the Hesei series. Heck i wouldn't even mind if Toho continued where the Hesei series left off, with Godzilla Junior now all grown up and ready to take on new monsters.

As far as CGI or suitmation, I think Toho proved that they can do a pretty darn good job with an all CG Godzilla, so I wouldn't mind if they continued with it. And at the same time, I wouldn't mind suitmation either if enhanced with CGI.

Whatever direction takes the live action series, I really hope we hear something from them soon. In the meantime we have the animated movie to keep us busy

Seeing all these shots from the Shin Godzilla art book of the tail prop with the humanoid Godzillas... and just taking a good long look at that makes me think "how could you continue from that?" I mean, it doesn't strike me as a sequel hook, but as a gonzo exclamation point.

If you take the logic of the ending forward than it won't be a Godzilla movie, but if you bend over backwards to make it a more traditional Godzilla movie wouldn't that violate the spirit of Shin and its ending? Maybe they could figure out a way, but I'm at a loss.

I like the idea of giving established Japanese creators the chance to reinvent Godzilla as they see fit in a series of one-off films in the same way Anno did with Shin. I'd love to see Kaneko's Godzilla vs. M idea. Would love to see Takashi Miike and Sion Sono take a stab at Godzilla, too!
