^Oh, come on: we're Godzilla fans. Even if a Godzilla movie sucks we'll still watch it at first chance and see it a few dozen times before we die. You can not avoid it! It is your destiny!

Truth, I'll watch it. Pretty sure it's already in my list on Netflix.

Looks a lot like the 2014 Godzilla that Japan made fun of and said was Fat. ..now they're sort of copying it? Weird.

Video of the SH Monsterarts figure on display that gives a good close-up look at some of his features:

phpBB [media]

The words that spring to mind after seeing his face there are definitely "old" and "tired", which I guess is appropriate with him being some 20,000 years old. I like the more wolf-like look of his head and the various other departures from the Legendary design that are more apparent after seeing more of these pictures than when we first got a look at him. I'm not sure I like how almost invisible his eyes seem to be though, especially since almost every part of him seems to be the same colour. It kinda gives the impression that he's half asleep or something. :P I'm guessing that might at least in part be to make him look almost statue-like and ancient, like he's so old he's literally almost becoming something akin to a walking fossil (or at least give that impression).

And yeah, leaf-like spines and almost bark-like skin. Very plant-like indeed. Depending on how they actually do handle his origin/biology it could certainly be a pretty big departure from the norm, maybe even more so than Shin Godzilla. I'm sure it'll play a big part of this whole...
Spoiler Below:
"Godzilla-based ecosystem" that's sprung up and seemingly covered the Earth...
...which just raises further questions that should, hopefully at the very least, be interesting to see how they answer.

looks interesting. Kind of thick and fat looking. Almost Sumo-Wrestler like with the large thighs and stomach.

The head definitely has a wolf look and the spinal spikes remind me of leaves.

as a sculpture it's definitely neat looking. Hopefully there's a NECA version made.

People are making fun of our new Godzilla's aged appearance and mellow expression!

https://kotaku.com/the-new-anime-godzil ... 1798146759

First: flash photography doesn't do this statue any favors.

Secondly: that face doesn't seem malevolent to me. I know this first film will probably be focused on humans fighting Godzilla, but I wonder if humans' relationship to Godzilla changes over the course of the trilogy?

Godzilla 2014 looks pretty gentle from some of the angles too. This looks unfinished anyway.

I neither love nor hate the design. I'm a little disappointed, as it's so similar to the 2014 Godzilla, and with CGI/animation at their disposal they could have gone with ANYTHING, but instead chose to just sorta copy someone else's design. I don't LIKE it, but I don't DISLIKE it...it's an interesting position for me as a Godzilla fan as I literally can't recall the last time I felt that way about a Godzilla movie prior to release...if ever. I feel like I've always either thought "Nope, don't like what I'm seeing/hearing but will go in with an open mind," or "YES! It looks amazing and I can't wait and all I can do is TRY to temper my expectations!" Being kinda UNSURE is odd.

I like the design, it's Swamp Thing Godzilla. He does look old, which I also dig.

Truth be told, the only new Godzilla design I've been disappointed by was the Kiryu films Godzilla (never liked that curved snout!). I'm usually pretty easy going about these things.

Despite his appearance, isn't this Godzilla relatively young? The Showa Godzillas and G2014 are hundreds of millions of years old, as is the Heisei Godzilla.* On the other hand, G98 and Shin Godzilla are among the youngest. There's a lot we still don't know about the anime Godzilla, but supposedly he first turns up in 2030 and is still around 20,000 years later. It's still possible he's millions of years old; we just don't know that yet.

* Unless you distinguish strictly between the Godzillasaurus and Godzilla, in which case, the Heisei one is much younger.

I don't think the story behind the Godzillasaurus in GvKG was that he was millions of years old, just the last living fossil of an otherwise extinct species.

I always felt Godzilla was the last (or almost last) remnant of a species that had been reproducing in secret for hundreds of millions of years, not that he was hundreds of millions of years old himself.

Ooh, this new banner gives our best look at Godzilla that's not a toy or a statue:

it's an interesting take on the character.

The long snout and dog-like features are going to take some getting used to.

It just occurred to me that if the final Monster Planet movie comes out more or less a year after the first one (i.e.: November 2018) and it takes us a month or two to get it on Netflix worldwide (we'll understand the timetable better after the we get the first one) we'll be in the unprecedented situation of getting two brand new Godzilla movies three months apart from each other, as Godzilla 2 is scheduled for March, 22 of 2019.

That's just crazy! (in a good way)

It really does feel similar to how I imagine kaiju fans in Japan would have felt in the '50s, '60s, and '90s, getting multiple new entries in the genre in a relatively short time span, some of them within months of each other.

It's not going to last forever. Whenever the next hiatus arrives, fans will look back on this time as the good old days.

it would be amusing if godzilla dies at the end of this Trilogy by being dumped in the Ocean because he is a plant.

I think after GINO there was this idea of the purity of the Godzilla concept that everyone go hung up on.

Now after Shin Godzilla everyone's just like "oh, Godzilla's a vegetable now. That's cool. When's the movie coming out?"
