So is the 11/17 release date for Netflix world wide or just in Japan?

^Thats the Japanese theatrical release. The worldwide Netflix release comes later: maybe by the end of the year, but, I think, more likely in the beginning of 2018.

^ At least we'll get to see it (and its two sequels) soon after their Japanese release. Even quicker than with Shin, and other places that had to wait over a year for Shin will appreciate that it's a worldwide Netflix release.

I've read several instances of people saying "I'm just not excited about this new movie" these last few weeks and I just want to say: I'm still quite excited about this movie!

It's new territory for the Godzilla franchise and I want to see it pulled off!

I dunno how the Japanese fans are reacting to this, but there's like zero hype in the Western fandom. I see little discussion, little excitement, little reporting on news. It's nothing like how things usually are when we're getting a new live-action film from Toho.

Me though? Yeah, I'm also looking forward to it. The first ever animated feature film in the franchise (and the first proper Japanese attempt at an animated Godzilla), and I dig where they're going with the story and the concept of Godzilla as a plant-based organism, which is just as fresh and unique as what Anno and Higuchi did with him in Shin Godzilla.

Receiving my Bandai vinyl in the mail a few days ago along with the new trailer yesterday has me very excited for this. It's a bit surreal seeing Godzilla in animated form, but I'm totally down for a futuristic super-sci-fi Godzilla story. After all the retreading of the 90's and early 2000's Godzilla films, this and SHIN feel like a breath of fresh air.

As a fan of animation in general, I'm exited for this. Like JD said however I just wish we had more information. A confirmed World Wide available date on Netflix would be nice. Also while I'm sure many fans will be watching this subbed, its almost assured there will be an English Dub track. Who are providing the voices? usually with animation (unlike live action dubbing), you get some names fans of the industry are familiar with...

Also with respect to the animation, all I can say is, it looks standard of what has been coming out of Japan for the last few years. Looks like Cyborg 009, berserk, IDO and half a dozen other shows I can think of with drawn backgrounds but CG Anime human characters.

I guess with computers this is easier to do than traditional animation (even though its all done on computers now...) I guess CG effects are easier, faster to do than digital ink & paint. It almost makes me think those things don't exist anymore, but when I see shows like Young Justice (for a western example), or Yamato 2199, how amazingly beautiful they are, it makes me think either they have an astronomical animation budget, or if not, why more series don't go this route because, to my eyes it looks 100X better than the lifeless CG characters we see all to often.

Now that is speaking specifically about human characters. Robots & mecha on the other hand can look really good with CG effects (they can look bad also) Monsters...well that's a new one. Not many recent anime have giant monsters since the Super Robot genre has kind of withered out (and no I don't count NGE...) I guess based on how fluid/inspired Godzilla looks on the final onscreen product I'll decide for myself whether a CG Godzilla is good for anime, or if he should have been Digital Ink & Paint.

Unfortunately, Netflix seems to keep their release dates under their hat until it's pretty close. Frustrating, but unsurprising.

Something I really love about the marketing to this: we've been told the movie's backstory and the trailers only seem to show footage up till the first encounter our characters have with Godzilla and I'm thinking thats probably halfway through this thing. Of course, it'll be much harder to remain unspoiled after the Japanese release.

Also, all the information about other kaiju. I'm thinking it will start with a Pacific Rim type Monologue. Each of those monsters appearing for a brief moment, shown attacking, and that's it. Of course that's all just speculation, but since we've seen nothing but Godzilla and the smaller bird creatures, I'm not holding my breath, but there are 3 films, hopefully by the 2nd film there will be other Toho kaiju besides just Godzilla that feature prominently.

For me the "story in three parts" announcement killed a lot of my anticipation. I prefer movies over television typically because i prefer the single sitting story, if i need to sit through 5-6 hrs to get the story of Anigoji, it will quickly become my least viewed entry in the franchise. Hopefully each entry will be able to stand on it's own.

Yuji Kaida and Shinji Nishikawa gives their takes on anime Godzilla. Kaida puts him in modern Tokyo, while Nishikawa gives us a glimpse at the other servum species!

Polygon's previous anime movie trilogy, Ajin, also had each movie over 100 minutes long, with the third one clocking in at just over two hours.

I'll be very surprised if this movie is below the general perception of feature length.

^I'm still quite excited. It's something completely new to the franchise, and while hype may be cool on this side of the pond they're promoting the hell out of it in Japan so I get the feeling Toho ain't half-assing it on their part.

The only two things tampering my expectations: 1) that we have no idea when Netflix will bring it to us, and 2) with Urobuchi writing and what we know of the story so far make me confident we'll be seeing a really interesting take on the genre, but the fact that it's a trilogy means this first film may be more backstory and world building, with the meat of the story in #2 and #3

It's better than that Star Sisters song from The Return of Godzilla, but it's hard for me to judge how well it suits the movie. Maybe the lyrics tie things together, but musically, I'm not sensing a strong connection. Something more aggressive might have clicked with me.
