Am I the only one that is already imagining the story just by seeing the picture?.

Considering the costumes and the spaceship (I think) this happens in the future, and that is a human expedition on what I'm sure is Monster Island.

Or how about, in the future, humanity was in a loosing war with earths kaiju and the last survivors decided to escape to another planet, centuries has passed and a new generation sends a human expsdition back to earth to see if kaijus are still alive or not, so humanity can colonize this new earth (and of course, kaijus are still alive, with Godzilla as his king).

I dont even...this picture brings so many quiestions!

I'm not a fan of cartoons, so this is such a bummer. I have a feeling the live-action series is going to get the shaft, as I can't see Toho making the same mistake and over-saturating the market with a Godzilla film ever year until 2020.

EDIT: Wow, the 3DCGI that Polygon Animations is known for looks terrible, this is an easy pass.

This is the only way for Toho to pull off having a movie a year: movies being made by different teams with overlapping productions. They've apparently been working on this for a while!

I'm not going to judge until I see the whole thing, and for what I've been reading, looks promissing.

Not being immediately familiar with Polygon Pictures, I figured some research was in order on the sort of work they've done somewhat recently.

According to the company's Wikipedia page PP did the animation for Tron: Uprising




and Transformers Prime.




The Wikipedia article also reports that Polygon Pictures has also done several episodes of Star Wars: Clone Wars. Hopefully we'll get to see some clips or at least more pictures soon if Toho intends to release the movie next year.

A Godzilla anime isn't my first choice, but a well-made Godzilla anime would made me extremely happy. The Godzilla universe has so much to pull from, so I am very interested to see what becomes of this...and keep in mind, a movie could very well lead to a series.

This is really interesting, because this has obviously been in the works long before Shin Godzilla's release and subsequent box office dominance. I wonder if this was intended to be like a 'Plan B' to Shin's 'Plan A'? Animated films tend to be more successful in Japan, Toho has made clear their plan to reestablish Godzilla's presence in Japan, and while they went with a more traditional live action version first, they may have thought that an animated version might catch the public's fancy if the live action one failed to do so?
