I look at it this way: Modern audiences are not going to accept a simple movie were a giant monster just shows up and walks around, fights the army, or maybe another monster or two (disclaimer: I'd be perfectly happy with that). These days audiences expects twists, craziness, outrageous things...seems like this is just an answer to that modern demand for over-the-top wackiness and action. So if all these G-tadpoles and tail-spawned G-baby rumors are true, it's just in response to the demands of modern audiences.
Again, early reviews here in Japan seem very positive, so maybe it all works. We'll see in 4 days!
