OK, then, to be fair, this is one of the things that will have fans divided, that and his tiny arms (Not even a T.Rex, Godzilla is an Abelisaur), his mighty thighs (He has yummy turkey legs, i'm hungry right now) and now that he debuts in a Shin Chan anime, especially with all the vs Evangelion stuff, there is at least one that doesn't know Shin Chan think the art sucks.

I don't know what you expected, considering Shin-Chan is a long-running, anything-goes animated sitcom aimed mostly at kids.

I haven't seen it yet, but apparently there are several cute Godzilla continuity gags. I'll check it out if it hits YouTube or somewhere else easy to access, but I'm not exactly clamoring for it. It's great promotion for the movie though.

O.K. that was cute.

I like how Godzilla was animated and had a good amount of homages.

Just watched it. Typical cute Shin-chan fare. Was disappointed that Kantamu Robo didn't show up! Godzilla comes off well.

That was pretty good, considering what it is. Interesting that they went for the traditional nods to the 54 original rather than any of the more recent movies. I guess it's another sign that Toho wants a clear line between Legendary's Godzilla and their own.

I guess I'm just a grumpy gus, but...I dunno. When you set out to make "the most scariest ultimate uber-dark gritty evil nasty horror" Godzilla of all-time, and then your tie-in is something where he's ultimately defeated a character's butt, I dunno.

Doesn't that seem incongruous? Do you think a tie-in like this would EVER have happened for the other serious films in the franchise (specifically and especially the original)? Has one? Has a Godzilla film whose mission it was to be serious gotten a tie-in about butts and generally seeming to poke fun at Godzilla?

For what it was, it's actually kinda silly fun...but I just wonder if this is the kind of thing that SHOULD have happened, assuming they're setting out to make a serious film.

^I think most people can separate the movie itself from a tie-in. It wouldn't be so strange if, say, Jason Bourne appeared in a Simpsons episode the week before the new movie came out.

GMK played on a double bill with a Hamtaro movie.

That's a bit different than Godzilla appearing IN Hamtaro though.

The Bourne appearance on the Simpsons is a decent comparison, but I don't think Bourne is really SERIOUS stuff like this movie's filmmakers have claimed they're attempting.

Granted, Higuchi and Anno probably have no input on this crossover at all. So it's not like it's their fault. It just feels odd to me.

Yeah, 'cuz serious Godzilla's never done anything silly before. "Specifically and especially the original."

Oh, wait!

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/56 ... ef84df.jpg

That's...pretty silly. Not Shin-chan butt-waving silly, but still.

I know, I know, it's just a promo, and not in a show or anything...but really, what's the difference? Tie-ins are tie-ins...promos are promos...Godzilla as a character has always had silly peripheral promos and tie-ins, from the beginning. And Jelly, as you said yourself in another thread, "Japan IS a country that has some customs, traditions and tastes that stray pretty far from what we consider normal here in America." This might be one of those cases.

AND I LOVE IT ALL!

No, I don't see what isthe problem, as mentioned before, Godzilla has done a lot of silly things:

Batman has done the same before when the Tim Burton movies came, and that doesn't stop them to say those were the best live action Batman movies ever.

Dark and edgie, folks!

I feel like so far the only one that kinda throws my argument is the promo pic from Gojira.
Godzilla doing silly stuff to promote the more FUN entries feels like it makes sense.

Getting defeated by having a butt shoved down his throat to promote a movie we're supposed to take seriously feels off to me. I don't care THAT much, but it just makes this feel more like a Hollywooded "serious" than an auteur serious, if that makes any sense (ie: Zack Snyder wants BvS to be serious but it has a gillion tie ins that are silly)

I don't know if this goes into spoilers exactly, but it's interesting that the animated Shin Godzilla is essentially a toned down version of the one seen in the final film. He's nowhere has rotten or overheated, has the classic blue breath. Maybe if this version was in the film some people wouldn't be as upset about what they're hearing.
