Suit or no suit?

So there seems to be debate on the internet over whether there's a suit or not in Resurgence trailer. We know Toho says it's CGI, but do we know if they're lying or not? We've also heard 2 puppets failed, but does that mean they can't go back to make suits? What do you guys think?

Godzilla looks completely computer-generated to me in every shot of the trailer.

The CGI looks quite good and I like how they've replicated the stiff posture and lumbering gait of suitmation in the way Godzilla moves, but it's definitely CGI.

I do hope we see some practical effects in the finished film.

I think Godzilla looks fine with the exception of the last shot of the trailer. The textures look smeared on his back. I actually really like opening shot with this head flailing about because it looks unique for a CG animated creation.

The only shot that made me question if it was a suit or not is the shot of his face when he tail falls behind his head. If that is CG it is a brilliantly textured model.

Yeah, there are some shots of the head that seem practical to me, and if that's not the case then it's very good CGI.

Am I the only one who thinks the opening shot with what I can only describe as a "puppet" head looks horrible?

I can't put my finger on it but something about the way he stops and stares with his jaw open reminds me of a pissed off animal. Maybe I'm thinking of a dog the way it stares at something it is about to bite.

I think that info comes from Bob Egglington on some podcast.

Man... the fact they went CG for Godzilla greatly impacts my enthusiasm for this movie. I just have little faith in Japans ability to compete in that market.

Also the trailers and ads for the movie are touring the CGI aspect ("100% CG!") as well, as if they think more people will see it if they think Godzilla is CG.

Norman does a lot of posting on Facebook that a lot of people can't see. He doesn't really want a lot to do with the fandom these days, despite having very close ties with people working on the movies... and he chooses who can see his posts pretty carefully, so I'm not about to share a bunch of stuff that I shouldn't (which would take quite a bit of digging through old posts anyway). Besides, I don't think anybody should be sharing anyone's private Facebook posts to begin with. He's also very selective about who he friends within the fandom. He's sort of quietly removed himself from the fandom community after having a lot of bad experiences. He's still a fan, he's just not involved in any level beyond a purely personal one.

I WILL say that he's been VERY skeptical about this new film and Higuchi's involvement as a director. (He had no kind words about Attack on Titan I'll leave it at that.).

But like with GFW, people just kinda seem to be throwing his pretty valid experiences and concerns (all based on his relationships win the film makers) to the wayside cuz "ZOMG A NEW GODZILLA MOVIE"

Hearing how troubled this production has been, I share the skepticism. I never want a Godzilla movie to be bad, so I'll be hopeful. But between the BTS stories and what I found to be a very underwhelming trailer, I'm not jumping up and down with glee like a lot of people seem to be.

^^^ I know AoT was a giant turd and Higuchi definitely shouldn't be the sole director on any movie but I still enjoy his craft in the SFX world so I am not going to let AoT cheese this movie for me.

However given all the details slipping through the cracks I would say this movie would need some kind of miracle during it's production to not be a stink bomb. I went from joyful optimism to almost completely defeated. Everything I have learned about the movie makes me think this will be Final Wars successor.
