I have a theory on the split opinions that is really related to any movie franchise. Don't hate me for saying this but I feel some people don't want to come out and say the real reason they hate something so they dance around it and grab onto things to hate so they don't come across as shallow. (I will use an example of what I am talking about) I personally think it is okay to dislike a movie for some small thing or anything you personally might think come off as insignificant. Let's say you hate Shin-Gojira because you despise Shinji Higuchi and the work he did with Attack on Titan. OR maybe you hate this movie because it has shredded the old school tokusatsu film making for newer techniques. I don't remember his name on this forum but someone here badly wanted to build miniatures for movies and when they saw the new Gamera movie it pissed them off. Maybe you met Anno one day and he shrugged you off as a fan. ALL perfectly valid reasons to hate a movie. If you are considered a professional film critic well that might not be a good ethic to have.
My personal example of this would be the recent Ghostbusters movie. I was open to that movie before it came out and said to myself, "Bridesmaids is pretty funny so I'll give this a chance." However when Sony, Feig and McCarthy all started screaming misogyny because people thought it looked bad I became annoyed with the entire drama around the movie. Bill Murray having his balls busted legally to be in the movie also didn't sit well with me. So I turned on Ghostbusters'16 movie pretty hard and refuse to spend my money to watch it. In my mind that is okay.
Some of us are pretty liberal with how Godzilla is used while others are not. I'm not saying the people here on this forum are actually guilty of this. How would I know? I can't read minds. I'm just saying if that is the case I would just come right out and say it. It sometimes can really clear the air and make people have an easier time understanding where you are coming from.
Let's all be friends. Maybe have a kiss off before the premier and respect each others opinions.
