As we are discussing and speculating in the main thread for the new movie, what is your preference for time setting of the new movie? Please comment and post your ideas!

godzilla vs a master computer!

Honestly it doesn't matter too much with me. Setting pre-WW2 does take out the nuclear aspect of the character, which is something that most would consider blasphemy, at least if a Western studio did it that way. But past, present, future, super-future-3099 don't matter, as long as it's Godzilla. Hell they could make a samurai Godzilla film, which in my mind is a samurai film but with monster characters instead of humans. Because, why not?

I wouldn't mind seeing a true remake of KOTM set in 1954, but I'd rather see a Hollywood studio attempt it. But if Toho wants to, more power to them.

And the only "futuristic" movie I'd really want to see is Godzilla set in a completely post apocalyptic environment, where either he caused it or was awakened by whatever did.

I'd really be okay with any of them, but I voted for the present, if only for the simple reason that I imagine it's much more cost-effective. Go for a historical or futuristic setting, and suddenly a lot of the budget goes into making the whole world depicted in the film resemble that past era or hypothetical future. Set it in the present and the monster/destruction-related special effects can be the main focus, I figure.

*sigh* is The present (or 30-minute in the future as usual) really that appealing.

Godzilla vs. Majin anyone?

As I've said before, I'd love to see a movie set back in '60s again.

Honestly, I don't have a preference. Lots of these could be interesting.

- Godzilla in feudal Japan would be amazing. I don't know how you'd square the radiation angle, unless you steal Legendary's origin of the kaiju being holdovers from a prehistoric, radioactive ecosystem. Of course, you could always go the mythical angle and have Godzilla really be the god monster of Odo island. Many of Toho's kaiju could be recast as mythical beasts. Mothra is already mythical, Rodan and Ghidorah could be dragons, King Ceasar is another natural. With a samurai era setting, this new Godzilla would have a distinctly Japanese style to distinguish it from the new Hollywood series.

- I'd love a movie like the Half Century War comic that follows a single character's life through the decades. You could do segments in the '50s, '60s, '70s, ect. and shift the style in each part. It would be a great way to celebrate the history of the series and to include many different monsters because you wouldn't have to bother introducing them as the emphasis would be on this individual's run-ins with kaiju throughout his/her life and not the reasons behind those specific Godzilla adventures.

- The far future would also be a interesting way to provide a setting far different from our own and very visually interesting.

A 20th century setting is really appealing to me right now, but I don't know why, exactly. I suppose I would like to see something completely different from Legendary's take, but without getting too crazy like a futuristic setting.
Honestly, though, I don't think I care that much. I'm more concerned about who's writing & directing, as well as the quality of the effects.

It could be past, present and future. One scene takes place in the past explaining the existence of Godzilla and/or Godzilla's enemy, next we have a battle in the present were Godzilla has his (then) last battle, and finally fast forward to the future when Godzilla and/or main antagonist returns.

Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah has practically everything covered. It has past, present and future.

A Pellucidar/Journey to the Center of the Earth type of story might be cool to watch; an adventure exploration story, a lost civilization, and plenty of chances for kaiju combat along the way.

As much as I'd like to see a period piece set in the 40's/50's I wouldn't want that to strain the budget for the movie. They need to focus on bringing Godzilla to life the best way they can and having to make everything look old is going to cost $$$ they don't have.

Feudal Japan setting would be great. It'd be amazing, really play up the mythological aspect of these things.

A movie set in the past that tell the origins of Mu and Seatopia, with Godzilla, Megalon and Manda, of course. Add King Caesar and Mothra.

i rather see something in the far future and have him battle a master computer.
