How about a big budget miniseries of a docu-drama entitled~And thus Gojira was born. - reenactment of the
event and people behind the birth of Gojira and how the movie became King of the monsters.

Or crazier yet, a discovery channel style fake documentary ala Walking with Dinosaur depicting the era of the giant monsters (When the MUTOs roamed... ), which would be a pseudoscientific paleontology reenactment while also serving as a prequel story for Godzilla 2014. XDD

I think Tsuburaya biopic done by Toho and Tsuburaya Pro. could be really cool. The thought came to me while reading August's book. His early life and fanciful dreams, the hard times at the beginning, building a reputation as an inventive and respected behind the scenes technician, finally achieving his creative dreams by becoming the country's premier special effects artist, then the creation of his own company and signature character (Ultraman), and soon after his untimely death.

Because of Tsuburaya's personality I feel the film should be somewhat comic and whimsical and reflect his belief that things should be interesting instead of merely realistic. I imagine the film concluding with a dream sequence where Tsuburaya directs his most famous creations in an epic team-up between Godzilla and Ultraman against Baltan and King Ghidorah (maybe and assist from Mothra and Rodan). Tsuburaya directs the chaos from army Humvees, the tops of skyscrapers, helicopters, only to yell cut at the end of the battle, ending the film.

It seems like a live-action TV series would be a bit of a bigger risk than making another movie. The production schedule is a lot tighter and you have to produce a lot more content in a shorter amount of time. Taking the time out to make another movie, while still risky, may benefit Toho in the long run.

I don't think the LP Godzilla films should hold Toho back from making their own films. If they do plan to make a new movie, having it be all practical effects would still set it apart and capture the traditional feel of the series. And people who have only seen the LP movie may be interested to see how Japan would do it today. It's a long shot, but I think if they stick to their guns and bring in new ideas, i.e. brand new monster designs, they could re-energize their own industry. And adding other means such as an animated series or new games to coincide with both the Toho and LP movies would be interesting to see and a creative way to keep Godzilla in the public eye.

Which is why I think an Ultraman-type tv show with Godzilla as the star would work. Television is the only way to go for Godzilla in Japan (and elsewhere) because the US has cornered the movie market.

a 13 to 26 episode show with specific story arcs for each monster, and a build up is one way to do it. It doesn't always have to have monsters of the week. It'd have to be like an adventure show for it to work.

Movies is just something that can't work in this environment, especially in Japan.

A TV show might also open possibilities for overseas success though.

According to Tohos Godzilla Facebook page, they're doing a concert style event in January or February. They'll have special guests.

This type of stuff, along with that live streaming broadcast next week, are all fine... But hopefully some "new works" as Toho would say, is announced sometime too. A Anime series would be the easiest thing to make, and probably cost less. You wouldn't have to worry about special effects either...the sky's the limit.

But I've read several times (I know Keith has said it) that Toho isn't interested in TV shows (live action or animated) starring Godzilla, because it's not something people are going to PAY to see. On top of that, look at the direction the Ultra series has gone in. There hasn't been (as far as I'm concerned) a truly legitimate Ultra series since Mebius in 2006. Recent shows (such as Ultra Galaxy and Ginga) have had low budgets (green screens, limited miniatures and monster suit reuse) and are highly tied to Bandai products (Battle Nizers/monster cards and Spark Dolls). It reflects Japan's decreasing interest in giant monsters that even the Ultra series is grinding to a bit of a halt and targeting the youngest of young kid audience. I don't see a place for a Godzilla television show in an environment like that. I can't even imagine a Godzilla show on a TV budget.

Personally, I think a low budget, Godzilla series aimed at kids (don't kid yourself, that's exactly what it would be) would seriously undermine the momentum from the far more serious, adult LP film. And I'm sorry, I can't see Toho doing something to jeopardize the money they could make off the American film by creating their own Godzilla films or TV shows that could conceivably be failures and turn away the audience that's slowly returning to the franchise.

I can see Toho making more films once Legendary is done. Until then, there's no reason for them to take the risk on their own production when they already have big money coming in while not having to life a finger. This is what they wanted back in 98.
