They are seeking 25k, and at 6.2k now. Sounds and looks cool. Maybe worth thinking about donating. I've been in contact with them. They are very passionate about this.

On a personal note, they agreed to let me come over to watch some filming if/after its funded. That would be fun.

Tossed in $25. Here's hoping Toho doesn't bring the hammer down; the movie looks pretty cool. I've heard grumbling about the Godzilla design, but I think that they took it in an interesting new direction. Not the sort of thing I'd like to see in a Hollywood reboot, exactly, but for a fan film like this a little experimentation is welcome. And I can always appreciate quality work like they seem to have done with the suit. Also, I'm glad to see that they're actually trying to tie it into the framework of the franchise, with the main character being Steve Martin's son or grandson or whatever it was. Maybe it's the "Grampa, Grampa!" kid from G'85, haha.

It says Rashaad Santiago is doing the creature costumes. He went to the finals on the most recent season of 'Face Off' and i generally loved his concepts and sculpts the best but was frequently perplexed by his color choices.

I'm in law school, actually, so it's kind of embarrassing that I don't know for sure what Toho is or isn't capable of here (then again I haven't taken any sort of intellectual property classes either, so let's just call it a wash). In either event, I'm always going to assume that Toho will overreact to any situation involving someone being very public about doing something, ANYTHING, with the Godzilla brand without their approval. The fact that they've accumulated $6000+ on kickstarter probably won't make Toho any happier.

Can Toho sue if they feel this film can make the character look bad? Anyway, they're struggling to get funded... My guess is, they won't reach the goal. If its close at the end, I will donate some.

Ah, cool, good for you. Looking to go into copyright law then? I'm gonna roll the dice on public policy/service and see if I come out with any sort of income whatsoever

Forgive my negativity, this is a very ambitious project and I wish the filmmakers the best. But I'm not digging Godzilla's design at all. He looks more like an iguana with weird Godzilla-like spines than Godzilla himself. I like the Angilas design and the story of the film sounds really good, but Godzilla's design is really killing it for me.

But I wish them the best and hopefully the movie will get made without any interference from Toho.

I believe they said they were going to make a new Godzilla suit.

I must say that I am really impressed with the quality of the production, looks like a traditional Toho tokusatsu production. I am really looking forward to this and the story of the movie sounds really intriguing.

BUT, I am not at all into the design of their Godzilla. The suit looks impressive, but the design is not. To me it looks like a cross between GINO and Zedus (from Gamera the Brave) and a small touch of Godzilla thrown into the mix. Don't know what they were thinking when they came up with this design.

Toho should really consider hiring these guys for their future movies, their work is amazing! Im really digging the look of Angilas, very dinosaur-like but still recognizable as Angilas. Still not digging their Godzilla design, but I guess it may grow on me when/if I ever watch the movie.

I will say this concerning TOHO and fan films.

Some you know I just released GODZILLA BATTLE ROYALE on Godzilla's 60th Anniversary last year. Aside from that since 2008 I've been posting videos of my costume progress to 2010, then of my video dabbling process from 2010 to 2014 of the fan film ideas which formulated to GBR.

Granted I was also very inspired by Elchesyn's Kaiju Killer efforts and even got to work with him (though thats a "discussion" for another time.) His videos has been up since 2006sh.

Also my film was allowed to be filmed at G-fest, Shinji Higuchi himself (who still works for TOHO) saw our progress and loved it soo much he posted our video links on his facebook for all his peers to see. I thought I was finished there in 2011 but 4 years later, I haven't heard or received anything from TOHO.

Also consider the fact that I was able to get the participation of Robert Scott Field and Akira Takarada himself as cameos in my film. I knew I was taking a big risk there but as they say, "no guts no glory."

Now that it's screened at Gfest, been featured in Rue Morgue Magazine, my local Chicago News/Paper (toho has lawyers in Chicago from what I've read), had articles in Kotaku Japan, and even had my own Free Pickwick Premiere showing, and hit a quarter of a million views on youtube in 2 months, I still haven't heard or received one thing from TOHO. Part of me feels bad as yeah I'd love to get noticed by them in a way and it hurts to consider I may be small potatoes to them.

On the other hand though, it kinda feels good that I accomplished something rather rare on the level of fan films for a company that's pretty strict about its properties use. And yea, that can always change in a heart beat and I may get a C&D. I'd still feel happy about my accomplishments and journey as much as many in the fandom like to mock my efforts or make me think I wasted my time or others who take a chance and express their creativity. I'm not selling anything from my film, haven't made a dime, never relied on a Kickstarter, paid all out of my own pocket to finish the film, and have no regrets doing it. Legally yes, it goes deeper than that and there's always loopholes, but fan films always tend to lie in a legal grey zone if they're non-profit. It was never about money with me, it was about contributing something fun/creative to the fandom and hoping others would agree or appreciate my efforts.

Not trying to boast but all I'm trying to say is that I tried to make something special, paid tribute/homage to TOHO/Universal/Kadakowa, and am kinda living proof that some forms of creativity with TOHO is allowed if done right. (not trying to jinx myself though).

As far as Heritage is concerned, I'm behind them all the way despite the fact they are my competition. I'm even in talks to hopefully assist them in the coming months so I'm definitely excited there. Regardless of how they're going about it, I support them and any fan effort to keep the old school art of the monster film alive.

There's also been quite alot of successful godzilla related kickstarters going including John DeSentis's Gfest Orchestra, The Kaiju Gaiden documentary and Kaijucasts podcast interviews from Japan, and the French Kaijunited documentary in the like. Sure Toho kinda got wind of the concert but worked things out to a compromise and the concert still happened which was amazing. Anything's possible.

I'm mostly curious to see how their miniature work turns out.
