Let see if they can out spectacle Godzilla 2014. Toho did say something about not wanting to lose to Americans or something.

Competing with Legendary, in terms of effects, is a really bold proposition - unless Toho is prepared ready to spend a lot more time and money than they ever have. At least we know they'll have some talent this time around in Higuchi and Anno...

I've just dismissed those comments as silly marketing/hype statements. There's no WAY a Toho film is going to compete with a $180 million budget Hollywood film in terms of effects. Not in an apples-to-apples kind of way. There will probably be more tactile, practical effects, better miniatures and such, but that's gonna be a personal, aesthetic type thing. In critical, unbiased examination, it's gonna be a low-budget foreign film.

I cannot wait to see the new G design - I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen many updates yet.

I'm just amused that Higuchi turned this into a dick measuring contest by stating his Godzilla will tower over LegeGoji.

How much bigger does Godzilla need to be? 120 meters?

150 meters?

200 meters?

I think the folks at Legendary got the perfect height for him at just over 100 meters.

When practical effects our concerned, I don't think Godzilla should be enlarged much past his Showa-era size.

... but, I suppose that's kind of immaterial now. Digital makes composting simpler, and it isn't necessary for a practical Godzilla prop and miniatures to all be made to the same scale, as was necessary in the past.

I have no idea what those images are supposed to mean for sure, but considering they've been around , they have nothing to do with the reboot. My baseless assumption is that it's some WonFes photo of a kit being offered for sale.

Yeah, it's looks like some type of Yuji Sakai T-Facto kit.

Its a Honey Bones kit from Wonder Fest a few years back... It seemed relevant to the conversation....

So, uh, anyway... how much do you Toho will force (or has forced) Anno to dial down the nuclear horror angle? We can't know for sure right now, of course, but who's willing to bet on it?

EDIT: I also know Anno isn't only Evangelion. Really, I'm just trying to get us off the topic of Ding Dong vs. Godzilla.

I don't know what I want out of this new series, but I would rather Toho not tried to rush a new movie out every year just for the sake of it.

I think he means something akin to making movies like War of The Gargantuas and different kaiju films each year.
