It looks like the official English title for the third anime film is Godzilla: The Planet Eater. It'll open in Japanese theaters on November 9 and we can expect another 60-day wait for it to hit Netflix on January 8.

^ I think once it opens in Japanese theaters this November it will officially be released in 2018 as far as any contract stipulations with WB and Legendary are concerned. Putting it on Netflix after that shouldn't be an issue any more than adding other Godzilla movies to Netflix for the first time.

That way I can watch it and promptly wipe this horrible nightmare from my memory.

The extent to which I couldn't possibly care about "shutting down" people who argue that Cloverfield or a PacRim kaiju could beat Godzilla is staggering.

I wouldn't trade the time these movies have sucked away from my life for that. Ever.

The way I see it is that Zilla is 'a Godzilla' in the same way Minya is. More off-brand than most, but still in the family.

Zilla is an individual monster character.

Zilla was originally named Godzilla and the creature was originally presented to the world as a revised take on the Godzilla character in the 1998 film titled Godzilla and the 1998-2000 animated TV series titled Godzilla: The Series.

In 2004, aware of the fact that most fans already considered the 1998 creature to be Godzilla in name only, Toho acknowledged the monster as a separate character unto itself by changing its name to Zilla.

The Zilla character has since appeared alongside the actual Godzilla character in the 2004 film Godzilla: Final Wars and IDW's comic book series Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, affirming Zilla's status as a separate monster character from Godzilla.

All Toho did was change the monster's name from Godzilla to Zilla as of 2004. Toho didn't travel back in time and change the past. The monster is still named Godzilla in the 1998 film and the 1998-2000 animated TV series. Just because someone's name changes doesn't mean the past changes too.

Sorry for sort of derailing the thread.
Speaking of other kaiju though I think one thing that would have immensely improved the films is giving us some of the intricate kaiju action written about in the movie even in snippets. I mean I realize good animation ain’t free, but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than building suits and set pieces with elaborate spfx. So if they’ve got all this great backstory for Orga, Dogora, Dagarah, Kamacuras, Angilas, Rodan, and Hedorah why not show us a little bit? It doesn’t have to be at great length but even in the opening credits would be something. After a 10 year hiatus, having this alongside the legendary films is like a dream come true. But to ensure the ball keeps rolling I think these are the type of improvements Toho could be looking at.

The backstory and prequels for these movies is INFINITELY more exciting than anything in the movies themselves. It's almost like they said, "Hey, you know how a lot of things in movies happen AFTER some boring time in a person's life where nothing remarkable happens? Well, let's NOT show the things that normally happen and instead focus on those lulls of inactivity. That'll make for RIVETING viewing!"

^They are saving all that prequel stuff for the 30 minute *monster of the week* series they are developing, oh wait..., that was just a dream I had a long time ago...

I just hope that after the third story, Toho still be making more anime adaptations of Godzilla, this experience could serve to see what works at what doesn't, I would love to see an anime adaptation based on the Showa series, a short anime series would be ok.

Ah, that is a really cool poster. It's also the most traditional of the posters so far, seeing how it's a classic Godzilla grappling another monster tableau.

I wonder if anime King Ghidorah has the wings and legs that we usually associate with him or he's some sort of rat king of intertwined energy snakes?
