Dreaming of Waking


That sound. Its tone robbed him of thought, sanity, reasoning. Stumbling through the darkness, blurred vision allowed him only a glimpse of the treacherous rubble ahead. Hands on the dusty wall beside him, moving in increments, he finally made it to the pile. Now able to distinguish the odd shapes and textures of the damaged ceiling now lying at his feet, he began to traverse the mountain of debris.
The ringing began to subside. Finally, an opportunity to exercise some reasoning in this delicate situation. Deciding to forgo the question of where he was considering the lack of light in the current environment, the bewildered wanderer instead opted to explore the question of himself. He struggled to rise a name up from the depths of his broken memory, but he gave up soon enough. A name at this point was not of a great deal of importance anyway. Suddenly, a thought. English. His inner monologue was being expressed in the language of English. He began to speak aloud to himself. “English. I’m speaking English.â€

His bloody left hand sat by his foot, the jet-black flesh squirming in a hypnotic fashion, awaiting the reattachment that would soon commence. The giant’s eyes watched it for a moment, pain not yet registered. The car beneath the monstrous piece of appendage was crushed, as were the occupants within it.
Finally, the right hand still attached to the giant’s other arm reached down for its damaged twin and lifted it from the wrecked automobile below. The giant placed the hand, still oozing red fluids, to his open red and silver wrist. Suddenly, the tissues of both reached out to each other, fusing together as if neither had ever been separated.
Now healed, the giant raised his head into the night air slowly, until the culprit of the decapitation was in plain view. The ugly, winged kaiju standing but a few city blocks from the titan stood perfectly still, awaiting its opponent’s next attack. Its monstrous head, which sat atop two adjoining stalks of muscle, bone, and blood vessels, cocked slightly like a curious dog’s. Its long golden wings unfolded, stretching to their full 150 meter length as they began to slowly flap, raising its hulking mass some 40 meters above the streets below.
The golden hued creature’s two massive arms stretched forward as it barreled towards the black giant that stood towering over the bunkers below him. The giant stood silent. His eyes, hidden behind the black, bone-like mask over his face and head, sat fixed upon the creature.
Finally, as the screeching monster began to cross the fire-filled gap between it and the towering titan, the outer-side of the giant’s left leg burst open in a geyser of blood, and black and silvery tissue. Out of the gaping wound came a massive organic holster containing an object resembling a sleek red pistol constructed of living cybernetic tissues. The gun exploded from the holster, straight upwards into the giant’s waiting left hand.
As soon as the gun met his hand, the giant raised his arm and took aim upon the monster closing in on his position. The trigger pulled without hesitation, a gigantic burst of light filled the city as a massive blast of energy burst forth from the gun in the giant’s hand. The white energy blast streaked towards the golden, bird-like monster at tremendous speed. As it struck the creature’s face, its scaly head exploded in bloody fireworks and its body fell fast towards a small collection of buildings that lay less than a block from the titan’s feet.
As the limp and enormously heavy carcass of the malevolent beast struck the block of buildings beneath it, the many structures exploded apart in a torrent of wood, metal, and foliage. All those dwelling within the doomed dwellings were killed instantly, save for the few unfortunate souls dead or dying beneath the rubble and massive body smothering them.
The monstrous humanoid figure towering over the destruction stood as ominously as ever. Though the battle seemed to be at a close, the giant showed no signs of victorious celebration.
Without any warning, the back of the remains of the golden kaiju split open. Out from the oozing bodily fluids and torn carcass, an intangible, metallic substance rose into the pale moonlight, its gelatin form slowly reconstituting into a new shape.
Still, the titanic figure stood firm, simply watching the event unfold. The silver orb of fluidic matter began to develop into a solid form and soon, an oddly shaped hole formed in its center.
Suddenly, the giant’s arms lifted towards its new foe. Clasping it’s hands together, the titan thrust its bonded fists into it’s own chest, bursting forth blood and tissue. Out of the cavity in its center, the titan pulled forth a massive cannon-like organ. Its sheer size suggested it could not have possibly been housed within the giant’s chest. Yet, there the weapon hovered, still attached to the giant. The thing began to glow in a pulsating fashion until all action ceased.
The wind itself howled with anticipation as the two entities faced each other down. With the silver orb still generating its form, the giant’s new weapon fully charged itself. The titan braced itself.
Silence befell the large collection of buildings and the surrounding wilderness as a white energy enveloped the massive area. Mere seconds later, a tremendous sonic boom echoed for hundreds of kilometers. Death itself seemed to have unleashed itself upon the land as the sheer power of the thing grew into a nearly unimaginable blast of rage. Atoms themselves split in two, as particles destroyed each other in the ensuing catastrophe.
Several minutes later, as the smoke and dust began to clear, and debris began to fall from the sky in torrents, a single entity stood in the center of the rubble. Fluids oozing from every one of its orifices, the black and red giant stood as motionless as ever . . .
