The Kong Chronicles

Postby Hawanja » Sun Sep 14, 2008 4:10 am

Hey folks. This is a project I'm starting over at deviant art, where I'm attempting to take all of the King Kong movies (made and unmade) and create one long storyline out of them. I won't be writing any fan fics at the moment, but rather doing a series of illustrations of what each project may have looked like.

My deviant art account is here:

http://hawanja.deviantart.com/

The timeline I've written is here, those of you with Devaint art accounts feel free to comment either there or on this site.

http://hawanja.deviantart.com/journal/20480326/

Here is the timeline I came up with. Suggestions are encouraged!

------------------------------------------

1880's - [Kong: King of Skull Island] The Natives of Skull Island worship "the Gaw," the young Kong is orphaned and eventually supplants Gaw's status as resident jungle deity. Gaw's species goes near extinct. A survivor of a stranded English merchant vessel creates a map of the Island.

1929 - [The Island of the Skull] Carl Denham comes into possession of the Skull Island map.

1933 - [King Kong] Denham mounts an expedition to Skull Island, brings Kong back to New York as a stage show attraction, Kong's subsequent rampage ends with a fall from the Empire State building.

1933 - 1947 - Events depicted in A Natural History of Skull Island: Multiple scientific teams race to Skull Island to document the various species there.

Similar life forms are discovered on Nearby Faro Island, although observed specimens are much larger (and much rarer.)

1939 - [King Kong vs. Frankenstein] - Carl Denham finds himself destitute, his sole possession is the former King of Skull Island's body. He starts a road show carnival with the preserved Kong as his main attraction.

Denham is approached by a Dr. Hugo Frankenstein, Great great great grandson of the famous mad scientist. Hugo proposes to Denham to allow him to experiment on the Kong's body. Denham is at the end of his rope financially, and is forced to sell Kong's body to Frankenstein.

Dr. Frankenstein succeeds in bringing Kong back to life. Dr. Frankenstien uses an implanted device to control Kong's instinct to escape, but over time he begins to have a father/son relationship with Denham.

The Doctor adds Kong's genetic code to a mix of Human, Crocodile, and Elephant DNA to create his "Prometheus," what he calls "the Ultimate man." Denham, never one to miss an opportunity, arranges to have a wrestling exhibition between the two monsters. Frankenstein intends to fix the match with his control device, in order to prove the superiority of his newest creation.

During the match Dr. Frankenstein's young Japanese assistant Dr. Huu steals the reanimation formula and kills Frankenstein by pushing him off a third story balcony. The remote to the control device is destroyed, and Kong's rage is fully unleashed. Kong and the Prometheus break out of the arena and rampage through town, eventually both falling to their apparent doom from the Golden Gate Bridge. Although the body of the Prometheus is found no sign is seen of Kong.

1941 - 42 [King Kong: Into the Wolves Den] - Kong becomes a sort of urban legend, as many sightings of the great beast accumulate over the years. Eventually Kong is captured by the United States Military. Carl Denham is brought in as a special consultant (as he seems to be the only one who can tame the monster.)

British spies return with undeniable proof of Project "Donnerdrache" (Thunder Dragon,) in which Nazi scientists have begun experiments on captured Skull Island wild life, including some of the larger predators such as V-Rex and Spinosaurus. Photographs of Denham's former business partner Dr. Huu clearly show him installing mind control devices into the hideous beasts. Denham is recruited to train Kong as a countermeasure to what is now known as "Project: Defender" with the disapproval Col. Frank Edwards, the project's C.O.

Nazi agents sneak into the United States and kidnap Carl Denham. Col Edwards sends Kong along with assorted handlers on a rescue mission, but secretly plans to carpet bomb the whole facility and Kong with it in a bid to shut Project: Defender down permanently and get away from "this monkey assignment." Against all odds Kong breaks into the facility, rescues Denham, and manages to get Denham back to the rendezvous point with the German army in hot pursuit. As Carl Denham is whisked away to freedom via a waiting biplane, and the last he sees of Kong is the majestic beast battling a trio of mind controlled V-Rex, Spinosaurus, and Giant Cave Bear, before the entire area is covered in carpet bombs. Denham is resigned to the fact that Kong is now truly dead.

1947 - [Son of Kong, A Natural History of Skull Island] - The war is over, and Denham is out of work. Still destitute from various lawsuits over Kong's rampages in New York and San Fransisco, Denham partners with Captian Englehorn to return to Skull Island to search for the long lost island treasure. While exploring the Island Denham meets Kino, an albino Megaprimatus kong, the rather friendly "Son" of Kong. Denham finds his treasure, and Kino apparently drowns when the island sinks due to a volcanic eruption.

Several days after Denham and his young female companion are picked up by a passing trawler, a strange catch appears in the nets - it's Kino, near exhaustion but alive.

1950's - Denham reopens his circus business with Kino as the star attraction. He is financially successful, and profits from a growing Kong and Kino merchandising empire.

1955 - [Godzilla] A giant radioactive saurian attacks Tokyo, Japan. This beast would return many times, and eventually be known as "Godzilla."

1959 - [Space Kong]- It's the middle of the cold war, and the space race is on. A strange giant asteroid has entered the solar system and entered a stable orbit between the Earth and the Moon. In an effort to excite the American public about the space race, Nasa partners with Carl Denham to send Kino to the "new Moon" as part of a publicity stunt.

The mission seemingly goes off without a hitch. Kino is taken to the surface of the Asteroid, which appears to have a breathable atmosphere but is otherwise lifeless. Some publicity photos and films are taken. Sadly it's discovered the New Moon's orbit is not as stable as once thought, and it will be flung back into space in a matter of months.

Back on the Earth Denham and Kino travel the country as "the world's largest astronaut." Unnoticed by them both is a strange green mold on the boot of Kino's spacesuit (which is on display in Denham's traveling exhibit.) Various employees of Denham's roadshow begin to disappear. Eventually Kino discovers the remains of a roadhand, of which he is promptly blamed for the death. Kino is kept in his cell as the authorities decide whether or not Kino should be put down, but the true culprit is soon revealed as a large scorpion-like creature. As the "Moon Beast" ravages a nearby town, Denham releases Kino to stop the monster. The two battle through the streets, eventually both perishing in a fire of a nearby wheat field.

Denham decides to quit the giant monster business for good, but doesn't hesitate to add a Moon Beast toy to his King Kong action figure line.

1963 - [King Kong vs. Godzilla] Another Megaprimatus Kong is discovered on Faro Island, close to the location of Former Skull Island. This one however is five times the size of the original Kong, due to mutation caused by consuming the juice of the Soma berry, a narcotic fed to the beast by the island's aboriginal population. A Japanese pharmaceutical company captures the beast and brings it to Japan, where it clashes with Godzilla. Both monsters rage through the countryside until falling off a cliff into the ocean. While both monsters survive the encounter, neither would meet again.

1967 - [King Kong Escapes] Kong is encountered on Farou island by United Nations scientists Carl Nelson, Jiro Nomura, and Susan Watson. Kong fights off an attack by Gorosaurus. Meanwhile Dr. Huu (former assistant to Dr. Frankenstein) is now employed by an unnamed communist nation (strongly hinted to be the Red Chinese) builds Mechanikong to aid in his mission to mine the highly radioactive element X. As Mechanikong fails, Huu decides to capture and use the newly discovered Kong on Farou island.

Kong is hypnotized into slave labor to mine the element. But King Kong escapes! With Huu and the Japanese defense forces in hot persuit, Kong destroys Mechanikong in a battle on the sides of Tokyo tower.

1967 - 1973 [The King Kong show] Kong is befriended by the Bond family, and along with Captain Englehorn partakes of various adventures, fighting monsters and saving the world from Dr. Huu.

1974 - [King Kong vs. Orca] - Carl Denham has retired from his circus business and lives a quiet life. He writes occasional books about his past adventures, and still collects a ton of royalties from a small but popular Kong and Kino merchandising empire.

Sightings come in from the Pacific Northwest about a large albino monster, with what appears to be severe burns over it's body. In the woodlands of upper Washington State, the beast is seen along the coast by several witnesses. Eventually a short, fuzzy film of the creature is taken in a gully (akin to the Patterson Bigfoot footage) and is broadcast on TV. Denham takes a personal interest in the creature, of which he is convinced is Kino.

Things begin to heat up as hikers and campers begin to disappear. Local wildlife is also found devoured, with little left but spots of blood and assorted limbs. When human remains begin to be found the authorizes are alerted. Denham himself arrives in a Seattle suburb and begins organizing a search expedition just as the army is called in.

Unfortunately for Denham, the C.O. in charge of the army unit is none other than his old "pal," Col. Frank Edwards. Turns out since he tried to shut down Project: Defender way back when his career choices have been severely limited (including a prolonged assignment in subzero Antarctica.) He personally blames Denham for getting him stuck on another "Monkey Assignment." Denham rushes out into the forest to find Kino before Edwards can hunt him down and destroy him.

Along the coast, a large fishing trawler runs aground, with all hands missing. Splashes of blood and various body parts litter the deck. While Col. Edwards and his people declare a state of Martial Law until the beast is caught, Denham uses a special whistle to call Kino out of the forest. Turns out Kino has been alive and well all these years since his battle with the Moon Beast. Horrible burn scars cover half of his body, but he's managed to recover due to the regenerative properties of the alien Moonbeast virus. It is a touching reunion for Denham and Kino, however Denham is not able to keep Kino secret forever.

Col. Edwards takes possession of Kino, and keeps him confined in Seattle's Kingdome football stadium. While Denham attempts to prove Kino's innocence, Edwards brings Denham up on criminal obstruction charges. All the while more wrecked ships, missing persons, and severely mutilated cattle are found, despite Kino's capture. While Denham uses the media to try and convince the public of Kino's innocence, Edwards goes over Denham's head and gets the order to put Kino down from the president himself.

The night of Kino's execution something goes wrong. As a ominous storm rolls in from the coast, Kino can smell something in the air. He begins to go berserk, ripping and tearing at the corners of his cage. Denham tries his best to calm him, to no avail.

Outside a large crowd of angry people have gathered around the stadium to witness Kino's execution. Many of them hold negative signs, such as "Fry the Monster!" and "Freak of Nature!" But unknown to them all an even more terrible monster stalks the streets...It is revealed that a large Basilosaurus-like creature is responsible for the killings. Having depleted the food resources in the local area the "Orca" as it is now called makes a raid into Seattle proper, and it just so happens there is a large gathering of fresh meat, right outside the Kingdome...

In the ensuing slaughter Col Edward's army unit is taken totally by surprise. It's mass hysteria as the Orca has it's fill of both civilian and soldier alike. Denham races inside of the stadium and opens the dome to allow Kino to confront the beast. The two battle through downtown, destroying landmarks such as the Seattle space needle in the process. Edwards gets his army unit together and orders them to destroy both monsters, however it will be several minutes until the heavy air support arrives. Kino defeats the Orca by strangling it to death, then proves his good nature by saving a group of small children stranded on a burning rooftop.

The act of heroism convinces the public to spare Kino's life (despite the protests of Edwards.) Denham decides to use his vast merchandising wealth to set up a wildlife preserve in central Africa, where he and Kino can live out their final days in peace.

1976 - [King Kong, De Laurentis remake] - The Petrox petroleum corporation sends an exploratory mission to Faro island, picking up the beautiful (but annoying) Dwan from a lifeboat. While on the island the Dwan is kidnapped by the Natives and offered up to Kong. In an eerie repeat of the events of 1933, Kong is brought back to New York, only to go on a rampage and eventually fall from the World Trade Center.

1986 - [King Kong Lives] - Kong survives his fall from the WTC but lies in a coma for the next decade under the care of Dr. Amy Franklin. Kong is given an experimental artificial heart, but will die soon anyway without a blood transplant. Just in time it seems another, female Megaprimatus Kong is captured in Borneo and brought to the institute to provide the plasma to save Kong's life. The heart and blood transplant is a success, but Kong and "Lady Kong" escape, with insane army Colonel Archie Nevitt in hot pursuit. Events come to a head as Kong faces down Nevitt's platoon while Lady Kong Gives birth in a nearby barn.

1994 - [Bionic Kong] The army keeps Kong's body in the same facility where Project: Defender was held during WWII. Dr. Amy Franklin teams with the aged Dr. Ikio Sawamura (an expert in cybernetics,)and uses state of the art bionics to bring Kong back to life. Kong is controlled by a computerized system that automatically administers sedatives whenever he gets out of hand. It is hoped such research would advance the field of cybernetic replacement limbs for injured soldiers.

However, unknown to all is that Sawamura is actually Kong's old nemesis Dr. Huu. Since the end of the Cold War Dr. Huu has become a "free agent," manufacturing and selling chemical and biological weapons to the highest bidder. However, now he has a bigger plan in mind.

The disguised Huu maintains his cooperative ruse all the while using the facilities genetic samples to engage in secret cloning research. He intends continue the work of Project Donnerdrache, and create an army of mind controlled monsters which he can sell to the highest bidder. However, while searching through the preserved samples of Skull Island's larger predators, he comes across something he did not expect... genetic samples of the island's former chief deity, the dreaded Gaw...

Turns out Dr. Huu is the grandson of Bar-Atu, the last high priest of Gaw. As Bar-Atu allowed the worship of Gaw to be supplanted by the Kong, his son Kobal voluntarily left the island in disgust. Many thought Kobal perished at sea, but he survived to reach mainland Japan and had a son of his own, a son who was a scientific genius at a young age, and who's father filled his head with wondrous and dangerous tales of the great God Gaw... Dr. Huu now understands his past failures to destroy the hated Kong, as he is but a mortal in the battle between Gods. He failed for a reason, so that he would come into such a position to bring the feared Gaw back to life, and help him conquer the world...

Dr. Huu steals the samples, burns down the lab, and short circuit's the main computer, thereby pumping Kong full of stimulants. Kong goes on a drug induced rampage through the city and escapes into the wilderness. Dr. Franklin goes searching for Kong while simultaneously trying to convince the United States army not to obliterate him on sight.

Several months pass - Kong is still on the loose, while Dr. Huu uses stolen Soviet technology to excellerate the growth of his saurian clones. Bionic Kong is finally tracked and captured, and returned to the research facility. Kong is put into suspended animation, his final fate uncertain. Dr. Huu uses this moment to attack!

The facility and adjoining army base is decimated by his mind controlled dinosaurs. As the remaining soldiers hold up in the lab, Amy manages to release Kong from his holding cell. Dr. Huu is shot, releasing his hold on the dinosaurs who run amok, escaping into the wilderness. Kong and Gaw battle it out while the army surrounds them. To the chagrin of Dr. Franklin the decision is made to destroy both of them with a fuel-air explosive.

1994 - Present - Intelligence is gathered from various terrorist groups and rouge states, suggesting that Dr. Huu's biological samples and research has now become a freely traded commodity. As the CIA considers it only a matter of time before another giant monster attack, the decision is made to restart Project: Defender, with Dr. Amy Franklin at the head.

2001 - The first clone of King Kong is born, housed in a vast underground habitat designed to mimic that of Skull Island. Several other clones of various Skull Island species also populate the habitat. Dr. Amy Franklin has succeeded in teaching this Kong rudimentary sign language, demonstrating the species is far more intelligent than previously thought.

Here are the first three:

Clone Kong:

A clone of the original Kong, kept in a secret government facility. After WWII the cells of the original were preserved, until technology finally advanced enough to bring the extinct Megapirmatus Kong back to life. Somewhere deep underground there's a chamber with several different Kongs in various stages of development. These embryos are the subject of top secret military projects, much to the dismay of several animal rights groups.

Sometime in the next few days I'm going to post a journal with a rough time line of all the various movies (made and unmade,) after that the pieces will follow in order. Just happened to have this one ready first.

Image

The Ginko

Height: 22 feet

Weight: 2069 kilograms (approx 3 tons)

The Ginko is a sort of prototype monster, created by Dr. Hugo Frankenstein. Made from the stitched together elephant, crocodile, and human body parts, treated with Frankenstein's family regeneration formula, a side effect of which is an increase in size. Hugo Frankenstein parades the Ginko in front of Carl Denham, to show that his reanimation process works. Impressed with the Ginko, Denham sells the body of Kong to Dr. Frankenstein.

The mad doctor revives Kong, but uses his DNA to create a new creature, his perfect man, called "the Prometheus." After Prometheus is brought to life, Frankenstein orders it to destroy his earlier creation. The two beasts wrestle in the lab but the smaller, less intelligent Ginko is no match for the stronger monster. The Prometheus strangles the Ginko, and Frankenstein places it's huge body back into the chemical vats, nothing more than raw material to be used for more twisted experiments.

Image

The Prometheus

Height: 30 feet

Weight: 4 tons

After Carl Denham sells the body of Kong to Dr. Hugo Frankenstein, the mad doctor mixes the King's DNA with elephant, human, and crocodile DNA to create another monster which he called "The Prometheus," his "perfect man." Denham (never one to miss an opportunity) stages a wrestling match between the revived Kong and the Prometheus, which quickly gets out of hand.

Frankenkong

Height: 25 feet

Weight: Approx 3 tons

After Denham sells the body of Kong to Dr. Hugo Frankenstein, the mad scientist uses his famous ancestor's method to bring the giant monster back to life. Frankenstein uses the Kong's DNA along with crocodile, human, and Elephant DNA to create his masterwork, "The Prometheus."

Kongs preserved body must be prepped for revival, which involves shaving his head and implanting the famous electrical bolts. The process is a success, and King Kong comes back to life. Dr. Frankenstein implants a small electrochemical device in the back of Kong's skull which allows him to administer painful electric shocks to Kong, thereby allowing him to suppress the King's natural instincts. During his "training" however, Kong develops a sort of father/son type relationship with Carl Denham.

A few months later, Kong is fully healed - his hair grows back, the bolts and stitches are removed, and he takes on a more traditional appearance. Frankenstein creates his Prometheus, and Denham stages a wrestling match between the two.

Enjoy!

When Hugo Frankenstein creates his "perfect man," Carl Denham proposes pitting the Prometheus against Kong in an exhibition wrestling match. Denham sees the event as an excellent way to pay off his debts, while Frankenstein wishes to prove the superiority of his creation. Unknown to Denham the mad doctor plans to handicap Kong by using the implanted training device to administer electric shocks at crucial times during the fight.

Unfortunately for Hugo Frankenstein things do not go as planned. While he is distracted with the match his young Japanese assistant Dr. Ichiro Huu takes the opportunity (at gunpoint) to relieve from him the key to the safe that contains the doctor's famous regeneration formula. In the ensuing struggle Hugo is shot and falls from the third story balcony. The fall destroys Frankenstein's remote control, which frees Kong to fight back to his full potential.

The Prometheus is physically larger and more intelligent than Kong, and easily dominates the first part of their match. However when Kong is allowed to unleash his full rage the Prometheus is taken aback. His higher intelligence opens him up to a unique weakness - fear.

Kong lets loose his pent up anger and rage at months of being confined, humiliated, and "trained," all the Prometheus can do is to try and keep himself alive. The battle bursts from the arena and spills into the street, until the two titans both fall from the Golden Gate Bridge.

The huge body of the Promethus floats to the surface, drowned. Kong however is not found, until a few years later...

Kong Chronicles - Vastatosaurus rex

2008 Ink, Photoshop

As the heavier, bulkier decedent of Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Vastatosaurus rex is at the top of the Skull Island food chain. The creature's size, animal cunning, and formidable jaws allows the adult of the species to go toe to toe will any other large predator on the island, including challenging the Kongs for dominance of the highlands.

After Carl Denham's fiasco at the Empire State building, scientists from many nations rushed to Skull Island to document the bizarre species which resided there. Many specimens were taken (sometimes at the cost of human life.) During the second world war an expedition of Nazi scientists capture several V. Rexes to be used in Project: Donnerdrache.

Unfortunately for the Germans, Vastatosaurus rex is not a species that takes to captivity well. By the time Kong is sent on his rescue mission the three V. Rexes in captivity were responsible for several dozen German casualties.

Kong Chronicles - Spinosaurus

Height - 9 meters

Length - 18 meters

Weight - 7 tons

Spinosaurus is the largest predator to ever walk on land, larger than even Tyrannosaurus Rex, or his Skull Island decedent Vastatosaurus Rex. Spinosaurus is surprisingly fast for a creature of it's size, an it's incredible maw allows it to capture and swallow prey the size of a man whole.

Unfortunately bigger is not always better when it comes to survival. Despite it's massive size and powerful jaws, the Spinosaurus population on Skull Island has been driven nearly extinct. As large predators compete for the same territory clashes between individuals become more frequent. Enclosed ecosystems (such as islands) are incapable of sustaining too many different species at the top of the food chain. In this case the V. Rex's faster breeding rates helps it succeed at the island's top predator. By the time of Carl Denham's encounter with Kong there are less than five Spinosarus individuals left on the island. Of these, one is captured by a Nazi expedition in 1938 to be used in Project: Donnerdrache.

Kong Chronicles - Skull Island Cave bear

Height (standing on hind legs): 17 feet

Weight: 2500 lbs (approx 1.2 tons)

The Skull Island Cave Bear is species derived from the common Asian brown bear, probably brought to the island by the same civilization that also brought the Kongs. There are hieroglyphs in some of the ruined temples across the island that picture the bears in some sort of ritualized capacity, probably trained by the natives to act as oversized guard dogs against the island's aggressive predator species. Since the decline and eventual fall of the island's great civilization the bears have taken to inhabiting caves along the base of the lowlands. At 17 feet the cave bears are far from the largest of terrors on the island, but are still formidable enough to have carved out their own ecological niche.

Several of the mammoth cave bears were captured by Nazi scientists to be used in Project: Donnerdrache. Unlike the saurians captured along with them the cave bears proved relatively easy to train, inflicting only a few minor injuries and one mauling death on their handlers.

In 1939 a Nazi expedition is sent to Skull Island to procure specimens of the Island's more dangerous animals for use in Project: Donnerdrache (Thunderdragon.) Among the various specimens acquired is one of the few remaining Spinosauruses, two Skull Island Cave bears, three of the highly dangerous Vastatosaurus Rex, as well as a plethora of smaller (but no less dangerous) species - Decarnocimex, zeroptreyx, Inox, Venatosaurus, etc.

Among the smaller specimens was a strange, reddish raptor-like animal, an extremely rare find. This particular animal invoked an unusual amount of fear in the natives, who's word for the beast translated as "Death Runner."

The Panzerfaust

Name: Herman Kavalier

Age: 12

Height: 40 feet

Weight: 5 Tons

Herman Kavalier was a young Jewish boy in Prague. His entire family was wiped out during the German invasion. Herman spent several months in a state run orphanage until he was finally sent off to the Chelmno concentration camp for hard labor. During his confinement in Cehlmno he was "volunteered" to be used as a test subject in Project Donnerdrache.

Nazi scientists subjected young Kavalier to Dr. Frankenstein's regeneration formula (as sold to them by Dr. Huu.) The boy was bathed in a harsh chemical bath, injected with various DNA cocktails, and repeatedly subjected to intense electric shocks and radioactive bombardments, often while fully conscious. The result is a towering, 50 foot tall monstrosity, combining DNA from Skull island predators Decarnocimex (Giant rock crab) and Vastatosaurus Rex with his own. The process also left the young boy a complete psychological vegetable, to be implanted with desired behaviors with a special psychotropic gas that leaves poor Herman subject to his master's will.

In late 1939 Dr. Huu orders the SS agents under his command to kidnap Carl Denham, with the intent of using his expertise to train the various creatures of Project Donnerdrache. Col. Frank Edwards sends a team with Kong to rescue Denham, with the intention of secretly carpet bombing the entire facility (and Kong along with it.)

At nearly twice the size of the Skull Island king, the PanzerFaust has no difficulty subduing Kong. During the battle the hoses which administer a special mind control gas are ruptured, allowing the young boy personality to assert itself. Herman Kavalier becomes himself again. He turns on his former masters, and while Kong escapes with Carl Denham, Kavalier brings the building down in a fiery mass around himself, taking his Nazi captors with him in a final act of revenge.

Kong escapes with Carl Denham and proceeds to the extraction point (just as he'd been trained.) However Dr. Huu also survies, and has no intention of allowing Denham or Kong to escape so easily...

Kong Chronicles - Kong's Final Battle

As the Panzerfaust uses his last defiant act to destroy the Nazi labs, Kong manages to escape with Carl Denham. The two race through the German countryside, fighting their way through perusing stormtroopers.

However Dr. Huu also survives, furious the Kong has escaped him. He activates three of Project: Donnerdrache's more successful specimens.

Kong and Carl Denham arrive at the extraction point to find a trio of Huu's mind controlled monsters waiting for him - One of the few remaining Spinosaurus, a Skull Island Cave bear, and the infamous Vastatosaurus Rex, all three of which wearing Dr. Huu's specialized radio mind control devices. Kong puts Carl Denham down and engages the three titans.

As Carl Denham flies away in a waiting P-12 Mustang the last he sees of Kong is the majestic king holding off the three, fighting for dear life. Although he fights fiercely, he's outmatched by the trio of Skull Island's most dangerous predators. Moment later however secret air raid sent by Col. Frank Edwards carpet bombs the whole area. Denham is resigned to the fact that Kong is now truly dead.

Back in the United States, Denham exposes Col. Edward's plan to deliberately destroy Kong and shut down Project Defender. Edwards spends the remainder of the war manning a radar tower in Antarctica, while Denham serves his country faithfully, making films for the US army's propaganda department.

Kong Chronicles - Son of Kong

1947 - The war is over, and Denham is out of work. Still destitute from various lawsuits over Kong's rampages in New York and San Fransisco, Denham partners with Captian Englehorn to return to Skull Island to search for the long lost island treasure. While exploring the Island Denham meets Kiko, an albino Megaprimatus kong, the rather friendly "Son" of Kong. Denham finds his treasure, and Kiko apparently drowns when the island sinks due to a volcanic eruption.

Several days after Denham and his young female companion are picked up by a passing trawler, a strange catch appears in the nets - it's Kiko, near exhaustion but alive.

*********

No need to do too many pieces on Son of Kong, but I do like the fight between the cave bear and Kiko. The movie itself was rather disappointing, begs for a remake.

Kong Chronicles - Skull Island Dragon

Length - 30 ft.

Height - 10 ft (at the shoulder)

1947 - Son of Kong - As Carl Denham searches the ruins for the island's treasure, Kiko encounters and fights a dragon to the death. Shortly thereafter the island undergoes a massive volcanic eruption and sinks beneath the waves.

The Skull Island "Dragon" is a large, horned lizard type creature. It's sauropod like morphism seems to be a case of parallel evolution moreso than any shared ancestry. The long neck and low body profile helps the creature hunt for small mammals and birds in the tall grasses and neighboring trees next to it's cave habitat.

Unlike some of the more famous Skull Island residents the Skull Island Dragon proved quite rare. None of the strange animals are believed to have survived the sinking of the Island.

1950's - After Carl Denham returns from Skull island, he uses the money from the treasure to open a circus show, with Kiko as the star attraction. The show is a financial success - Kiko grows to his full height and becomes a national superstar, while Denham profits from a growing King Kong and Kiko merchandising empire.

Kong Chronicles - The Moon Beast

1959 - Space Kong

It's the middle of the cold war, and the Space Race is on. A strange giant asteroid enters a stable orbit between the Earth and the Moon. To get people excited about the space race, Nasa draws up a contract with Karl Denham's road show, to stage a publicity stunt by launching Kiko to the "New Moon."

The mission seemingly goes off without a hitch. Kiko is taken to the surface of the Asteroid, which appears to have a breathable atmosphere but is otherwise lifeless. Some publicity photos and films are taken. Sadly it's discovered the New Moon's orbit is not as stable as once thought, and it will be flung back into space in a matter of months.

Back on the Earth Denham and Kiko travel the country as "the world's largest astronaut." Unnoticed by them both is a strange green mold on the boot of Kiko's spacesuit (which is on display in Denham's traveling exhibit.) Various employees of Denham's roadshow begin to disappear. Eventually Kiko discovers the remains of a roadhand, of which he is promptly blamed for the death. Kiko is kept in his cell as the authorities decide whether or not Kiko should be put down, but the true culprit is soon revealed as a large scorpion-like creature. As the "Moon Beast" ravages a nearby town, Denham releases Kiko to stop the monster. The two battle through the streets, eventually both perishing in a fire of a nearby wheat field.

**********************

"Space Kong" was an unmade sequel to King Kong envisioned by Merian C. Cooper sometime in the 1950s. Story details are sparse so I've taken a lot of creative liberties with my interpretation.

Kong Chronicles - Kiko vs. The Moon Beast

After Kiko's mission to the "New Moon," several stagehands disappear from Denham's road show. When a mutilated body is found Kiko is suspected. He's kept locked up as the authorities decide what to do.

It soon becomes clear that a huge, scorpion-like creature is responsible for the deaths. As the "Moon Beast" attacks a nearby town Denham releases Kiko to fight the monster. The two battle through the streets, eventually both seemingly perishing in a fire of a nearby wheat field.

Denham decides to quit the giant monster business for good, but doesn't hesitate to add a Moon Beast toy to his King Kong action figure line.

Length: 30 - 90 feet (10 - 30 meters)

Weight: Up to 600 tons

The Oodaku is a gigantic Octopus-like creature, able to survive on land for short periods of time. Colonies of this oversized cephalopod frequent the island and are common in nearby waterways. Although not a particularly dangerous creature, the Oodaku (or devilfish as it is called by local fishermen) has been known to attack any large animal that enters it's territory

1963 - A Japanese pharmaceutical company dispatches an expedition to remote Faro Island (part of the island chain which contained the now submerged Skull Island) in search of the famed Soma Berry. Representatives of the expedition arrive and encounter another Megaprimantus Kong, this one five times the size of his predecessor due to the mutagenic effects of the berry.

As with the earlier Kong, this one is also an object of worship, more specifically a protector God associated with Thunder and Lightning. Kong's worship ritual is interrupted by an attack by a hungry Oodaku, in one of it's rare surface raids. Kong struggles with the beast and easily drives it back to the sea.

Kong Chronicles - Gorosaurus

1967 - Several years after the battle with Godzilla, the 2nd Kong returns to the Faro island chain, which also includes Mondo Island and the now submerged Skull island. Kong takes up residence on Mondo island and enjoys a peaceful life. Over the next few years the lack of any significant quantities of Soma berries in his diet causes him to shrink somewhat, although he still remains of a larger size than usual for his species (as do many animals within the island chain.) Eventually Kong is reintroduced to the world when a United Nations expedition explores the island.

Gorosaurus is a large Tyrannosaurus-like dinosaur, with a smaller head and more developed forearms. Due to the mutagenic effects of the Soma berry ingested indirectly through it's prey Gorosaurus is also larger than normal for it's species, and possibly more intelligent.

Kong and Gorosaurus battle in the jungle as both are highly territorial. Gorosaurs is defeated and left for dead with a broken jaw, but would survive and eventually take up residence on Monster Island.

The Mondo Island sea serpent inhabits the large caves and coral reefs in the Faro/Mondo/Skull island chain. Staples of it's diet include whales, large sharks, and oversize cephalod (such as giant squids and immature Oodaku.)

The immense serpents have been known to attack ships which wander into their territory, often mistaking them for surfaced wales. When the UN away team landed on Mondo island their hovercraft was attacked in such a manner while Kong battled Gorosaurus. After Kong defeated the saurian, he entered the water and drove the serpent off.

***************

The serpent in King Kong Escapes is pretty boring looking, so I thought I'd redesign it and make it look a little creepier.

Enjoy!

1967 - The plans for the war machine called Mechani-Kong were drafted by United Nations scientist Dr. Carl Nelson, but were stolen by the notorious Dr. Huu, who adapted the plans to his own purposes.

Mecahni-Kong was first used to mine the radioactive element X, however the internal shielding around machine's computer core proved unable to withstand the heavy radioactive bombardment. Undaunted, Dr. Huu decides to capture the real Kong form Mondo Island and use him to mine the element instead.

But King Kong escapes! With Huu and the Japanese defense forces in hot persuit, Kong destroys Mechanikong in a battle on the sides of Tokyo tower.

Kong Chronicles - Legend of the White Giant

1974 - Several years have passed since Kiko's apparent demise at the hands of the Moonbeast. During that time Carl Denham retires from his roadshow. He writes several books chronicling his adventures as well as the occasional lecture. He still profits from a hefty King Kong merchandising empire, which has since expanded to include several other Giant monsters sighted in Japan and the American Southwest. Denham is delighted to find another Megaprimantus Kong has been discovered, but decides against trying to hunt it down.

However as the years pass various reports come out of the Pacific Northwest of a fifty foot tall albino simian, including blurry photographs as well as first hand sightings. As time goes on Denham investigates the reports and becomes convinced the beast is none other than Kiko, the albino Son of Kong.

As reports of cattle mutilations as well as missing hikers increase, the army is called out to hunt the beast down. Denham travels to the area determined to find Kiko before the armed forces can destroy him.

1974 - Carl Denham travels to Seattle, Washington to hunt for a creature he believes to be Kiko. He spends a few weeks hiking through the rural areas around the city and eventually calls Kiko out of the wilderness with a special whistle that was used to train him in their circus days.

It's a heartfelt but short reunion, as Kiko is taken into custody by none other than Denham's old "pal," the former head of Project:Defender, Colonel Frank Edwards. Seems that as a result of Denham spilling the beans about Edward's attempt to pull the plug on Defender, Edwards spent a significant portion of his tour manning a 2 person radar tower in Antarctica. Needless to say Edwards is itching for a little payback.

Kiko is locked up in the Seattle Kingdome football stadium. Edwards circumvents the legal system and gets permission to put Kiko down from the Department of Defense. However as Kiko's execution date approaches, people still disappear. Eventually a fishing trawler washes up onshore, totally mangled with all hands missing....

The night of Kiko's execution a storm rolls in. Inside the stadium Kiko smells something approaching and begins to go bananas, charging the walls of his cage. Outside a large number of protesters have gathered, many of them hold negative signs, such as "Fry the Monster!" and "Freak of Nature!" But unknown to them all an even more terrible monster stalks the streets...It is revealed that a large Basilosaurus-like creature is responsible for the killings. Having depleted the food resources in the local area the "Orca" as it is now called makes a raid into Seattle proper, and it just so happens there is a large gathering of fresh meat, right outside the Kingdome...
