MECHAGODZILLA'S REVENGE

I already posted this as a sidenote to an offhand conversation in the Kaiju Fantasy Fights, but I figured here was a more appropriate place for it to get some recognition...

MEKAGOJIRA NO GYAKUSHU / MECHAGODZILLA'S REVENGE

I think if there was to be third Kiryu film, it should take place in a sort of wasteland world, where nuclear pollution and WWIII have basically obliterated Japan (and most of the world, for that matter). One of the final warriors of WWIII dies at the hands of a mysterious sea creature...could it be THE RETURN OF GODZILLA???

Legends speak of the Machine Dragon built over half a century ago, to combat the second Godzilla. During WWIII, the Machine Dragon was lended to Japan's ally, the Russian Confederation, to battle conquering European forces. However, after what essentially came down to the end of the world, transportation by air or other obvious means was no longer considered safe (thus limiting inter-continental transportation to submarines and, if you're brave, boats), and the Machine Dragon remained in Russian possession.

However, with the knowledge that Godzilla is on the rise, the Black Flag pirate militia is increasing attacks on the few remaining strongholds of Japan, and that the only real hope for survival rests in the Machine Dragon, the last warrior's son (TLWS) sets out to find the mysterious Kiryu.

Taking one of Japan's last military-class subs (and the finest crew of sailors and scientists in the nation) in a daring escape from a pirate attack on a coastal village of Hokkaido, he sets off for Russia...

As their perilous journey comes to an end, Russia finally in sight, the crew docks and is greeted with open arms. They explain their mission, and eventually are able to meet with the PM of the Russian Confederation, who states that although he indebted and would be more than willing to allow them to have Kiryu, the Plasma Energy Generator (created utilizing a self-recharging energy source based on Godzilla's own power system, to solve the problematic "battery pack" issue) was long-ago damaged and the Russians were without the knowledge to repair it. Of course, TLWS has brought along a team of scientists who have memorized every recoverable peice of knowledge on the antique cyborg, and five months later they have, despite their limited supplies, restored Kiryu to working order.

There is a grand celebration as the robot is reactivated, it's glowing yellow eyes and subsequently-glowing red "tears" come to life, and the dusty converted missile silo in which it has sat for over a half-century creaks open, Kiryu's retro-rockets (Over the years, Kiryu has been modified quite a bit--no longer are the White Herons/Shirasagi needed to fly) blast off, sending the dust-caked robot into the sunlight for the first time in ages. As Kiryu rockets into the atmosphere, the dust is blown off, revealing the incredibly beatiful sheen of the bot.

As Kiryu and her crew (Three people sititng inside a c0ckpit, one pilot and the others controling additional systems that weren't included in the GxMG-era version--the others are on the submarine, heading back for mainland) approach Japan, they spot a pirate fleet blockading a strongly-defended coastal outpost.

The pirates are understandibly "poopy-doopy"ing their pants at the sight of a huge flying Godzilla descending upon them. Kiryu lands with a splash, and sweet, sweet vengeance is wreaked upon the cutthroat fleet.

As Kiryu descends inland, the crew, elated by their power trip at smashing their lifelong enemies with such ease are, flying overhead, suddenly sobered by the sight of the long-destroyed wreckage of Kobe, Osaka, and Kyoto, all destroyed by either the Black Flag. Then they notice the huge footprints and completely obliterated buildings, something the pirates neither could do nor would do.

The crew, stunned, remark about how the citizens must've been slaughtered without a defense, while they were away these past six months.

They set down in Osaka and survay the devestation. Not a soul remains; all are dead or fleed.

Godzilla remained unseen.


-Nine months later-

On a stormy night, a shadowy figure arises from the sea, and proceeds to march towards the shore. Kiryu's alarm system begins to blare. The crew awakens and quickly jumps in. This is the night they have all been waiting for.

Kiryu takes off and flies towards the region near what once was Yokohama, where Godzilla has been spotted. A huge battle ensues, as kinetic as their first encounter and twice as brutal. Godzilla has, via the absorbtion of WWIII fallout, become much stronger and more powerful, and Kiryu has been enhanced to the point of insanity. The battle is bloody and brutal, and when Godzilla punctures Kiryu's side, ripping out machinery that paralyzes Kiryu's left arm and sets off a chain reation that hits the c0ckpit and kills the two auxillary crewmen, who were located near the rear of the chamber. In an ironic twist of fate, choing the characters of Akane (and Miho Yoshioka's character in GMMG...dunno her name) before her, the battle comes down to a fight between Godzilla and a Kiryu piloted by a beautiful young heroine. She fights with an insane fury, and in the end sends Kiryu's drill arm into Godzilla's chest and activates the self-destruct button, sending the Plasma Power Generator into overdrive and lighting up the sky all the way to China with a massive pillar of light. Knowing that she was the only human left in all of Japan that had survived Godzilla, the Black Flag, and nuclear armageddon, she fired to destroy Godzilla once and for all.

Fade to black...

"MAN'S DESTRUCTION WAS BY HIS OWN DISRESPECT, AND HIS WILL TO INTERFERE WITH, NATURE. THE BEAST WILL ONCE AGAIN RISE, SOMEDAY."

As in Tezuka style (At least GxM and GxMG..dunno of GMMG), there is a post-credits sequence:

The world seems to eerily mirror that of the 1950s in terms of urban architecture and technology, but the subtitle reads "Neo Tokyo -- 2154 AD". The sea rises, and we see a row of spiky fins protrude out...

Oh, BTW: Figuring I can't ignore the inclusion of Mothra in GMMG, MGR would include a side-plot in which the Mothra fairies ask TLWS to destroy Kiryu once and for all, and he agrees to if Mothra will help them fight Godzilla. Unfortunately, this Mothra is old and feeble, and is disposed of by Godzilla while Kiryu is temporarily disabled during the battle. Oh, and TLWS sacrifices himself while performing extravehiclular repairs to Kiryu on the battlefield.
