Again, I'm supportive but its a numbers thing. It'd probably just be you, klein and I and maybe the odd straggler that ventures into this sub forum which is a shame because the polls were fun and I discovered a lot of fun films through them :(

I'm game if i have access to the films, but activity across the whole forum seems to have slowed down a bit, so I think our chances of success have slimmed even more :-/

Yeah, its no fun when its only 2-3 people doing it. Facebook has really killed forums :/

Also let's start from scratch so that way we have a bigger pool of movies to grab from, ie godzilla and gamers films are back on the table.

maybe we could do something that crosses over to other sections of the forum? like pick movies that already have a "spotlight" thread, that might encourage more activity... although it would limit the selection

bring this back once again, pacific rim out in March and godzilla next year could be a good time to bring the polls back.

Instead of making these weekly viewing threads about movies alone, why don't we make them about Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes? That's pretty much the only scenario in which I'll bother to watch the obscure American B-movies that overtook these polls.

"MST3K Community Viewing" has a nice ring to it.

I do have another suggestion if we start this back up for 2018. When we tried this years ago, the discussion became very scattershot as we would watch the previous week's winning movie and then discuss it in the previous week's thread even as the current week's poll was active in a new thread. It basically turned into a series of talkback threads like the ones in the Godzilla and Gamera forums, with each weekly polling thread morphing into a talkback thread about that poll's winner, sometimes getting bumped weeks later when someone wanted to discuss it further.

To make this kind of real-time competition and unfolding discussion happen smoothly, I think it would work best if we just had one active thread per week with the previous week's thread being locked when the poll closes.

Step 1 - Start a thread on a Monday called "MST3K Community - Week 1" with a poll set to close on Friday.
Step 2 - Lock the thread on Friday when the poll closes.
Step 3 - Immediately create a new thread called "MST3K Community - Discuss (title of winner)".
Step 4 - Everybody watches the winning MST3K episode over the weekend and posts about it in the new thread at their leisure.
Step 5 - On Monday, change the title of that discussion thread to "MST3K Community - Week 2" and add a poll for what to watch later that weekend.

If we do it this way, then the weekly discussion will be entirely chronological, no thread bumping and no pseudo-talkback threads for movies that might already have them. There will only ever be one thread open at a time, so there will never be any confusion about where to post or where the current poll is. Actually, if we're going to do this then maybe we could give "MST3K Community Viewing" its own sub-forum here within the Fan Activities forum, so that the the MST3K Community threads will be by themselves and not mixed in with all of these other threads.

I can get behind something like this however, while I love MST3k I would hope to eventually expand beyond that series.

Hmmmm... I might be down for this. I've got access to almost every single MST3K episode ever, after all.

But, you know, I never participated in the old polls and I'm kinda sad about that. I love the idea of having a regular or semi-regular movie club laser-focused on kaiju, and steering clear of the outrageously obscure. I actually have the germ of an idea about a 'kaiju movie klub' which would select a few (let's say three as baseline) movies each month that would be thematically connected and discussed together.

Here's an example: three American Godzilla films with Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1954), Godzilla (1998), and Godzilla (2014).

Maybe go all-out one month and do all the films from the year of the 'kaiju boom.'

Weigh the two stock footage showcases of All-Monsters Attack and Gamera Supermonster against one another.

The connections between the films could could be profound or small, serious and wanting further discussion or jokey.
