Oh man, there's a possibility I might actually be in Denver that day. Argh! Even if I am, I'm not sure I'd have a way to get to the theater. The suspense is going to kill me...

Where will you be located at? There is a light rail station right behind the theater.

I'd be out by the airport. Doesn't look like the light rail goes that far, but it was a good idea. Although it looks like maybe a bus could be an option. I'm gonna have to do some more research.

Yeah, unfortunately not yet. The light rail won't reach out to the airport until Spring.

Oooh, that sounds neat. I love the idea of recreating classic double bills.

I wish I didn't already have an all day event. It would be great to see these on the big screen with 35mm prints. And dubbed! :P

I may just go to this one. I'll have to double check my vacation schedule.

So, I still don't know for sure if I'll be able to go to this (and won't really know until it's basically time to head to the theater). But I'm extremely hopeful. Problem is, I still haven't found a solution to my transportation dilemma. Is there anyone who's going that might be willing to give me a lift? I'm out by the airport but I'd gladly spot gas money.

Sadly, I live on the whole other end of the city from the airport.

Well that was awesome! Thanks Kain for the heads up! It was down the the last minute on whether I was gonna make it but it worked out and a coworker with a car was able to go with me.

Too bad August's slide show didn't work, but it was still a great event. The prints were pretty beat up in places and both were pretty significantly pink-shifted but they were still both very watchable. I'm still grinning from ear to ear. And my coworker, who'd never seen any old Toho movies, really enjoyed it too!

It was fun nonetheless. August was a really awesome down to Earth guy too. I loved chatting with him.

Oh, and I hate to say this, but my g/f was all like, "I wouldn't have minded going there to pick him up." Oops, sorry, but glad you could make it.

I did a quick video with a couple of friends afterwards:

It was a lot of fun! From the Japanese clips they showed before the movie started (the ones featuring a former Mr. Universe were hilarious!), through August giving his background lectures, and the little mishaps on the screen this was a great time! My first time at the Alamo Drafthouse, but it won't be my last! Hopefully they will do this again before too long. :D

Oh really? Your first time there? Yeah, that place is awesome. They do have their moments of poor service with food, but they have always made up for it with free movie tickets even when you tell them you weren't complaining to get free stuff. Hell, one time the manager personally mailed me movie tickets and a $20 off our meal coupon as well.

Anyway, I love it because they always show older movies. I've seen A Clockwork Orange, Halloween 1-3, Alien, Aliens, Escape from NY, The Thing, Sunset Boulevard, Pick-Up on South Street, Creature from the Black Lagoon 3D, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Black Christmas, and many others just to name a few. lol I'm also seeing Nightmare on Elm Street this Wed (which is also a 35mm print), the Indiana Jones Trilogy next Saturday, and then on Oct 3rd they are showing the 1925 Phantom of the Opera with a live orchestra for the Mile High Horror Festival.

No worries. It all worked out. And it would've been a pain for anyone who gave me a ride b/c I was on call with work until 2:30, so there was the potential that I could get all the way there with the movie starting and then get called in and have to rush back out to the airport. My coworker was in the same boat so having him go meant we wouldn't ruin it for anyone else if that happened. Thankfully they didn't call and we got to enjoy the great show.

And it also meant I got to introduce my coworker to the fun of Toho monster movies and the awesomeness of Alamo Drafthouse. He had never experienced either and he loved it. On the way home he was talking about how awesome Pacific Rim was and asked me what some other good Godzilla movies are. He was also already planning more trips to the Alamo based on some of the shows they had on their calendar by the front door.

Sounds like it was super cool! The fact that they were old, pink-ish prints actually adds to it. You can imagine those same prints being ran at a drive-in 40+ years ago!
