Meet HARUO NAKAJIMA, Mr. Godzilla at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan on Saturday May 17, 2014 during the matinee showing of Legendary Pictures’ GODZILLA!
Nakajima-san acted in countless tokusatsu films and TV programs including GODZILLA, RODAN, MOTHRA, WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS, ULTRAMAN, ULTRA SEVEN and many more.
During Word War II he lived with his family in Yokosuka, joining the Japanese Imperial Army and working at the Yokosuka Naval Air Technical Arsenal where major Naval aircraft were designed. During the occupation he returned to his home and helped his brother run the family butcher shop in Yokosuka.
After a stint as a transport truck driver for Occupation Forces he applied to the TOHO STUDIOS acting school in Tokyo, where he did stunts in various war films and enjoyed brief roles in the AKIRA KUROSAWA films: STRAY DOG, SEVEN SAMURAI and YOJIMBO.
Thousands of fans know him best for science fiction films that included ground breaking special effects by the team of artisans led by EIJI TSUBURAYA who helmed all the visual magic on GODZILLA and the ULTRAMAN and ULTRA SEVEN television series. Being cast as a stuntman led to his 1954 landmark role as King of the Monsters in GODZILLA, the iconic character he played with incredible stamina and pride until 1972 in GODZILLA vs. GIGAN when he retired from monster acting.
He has been active in fan circles traveling back and forth across the globe to America, Germany and throughout Japan. Now MONSTER ATTACK TEAM is proud to present the God of Monster Suit Actors, HARUO NAKAJIMA in his first official return to the Yokosuka U.S. military base, approximately one hour south of Tokyo.
Mr. Nakajima will speak to the audience of active duty military members, dependents, and civilians before the matinee screening of this summer’s highly anticipated blockbuster, directed by GARETH EDWARDS and starring BRYAN CRANSTON, ELIZABETH OLSEN, AARON TAYLOR JOHNSON, KEN WATANABE, and AKIRA TAKARADA.
