Lat time i went with all Japanese flicks, and it didn't work out since no one else had them on DVD.. so this time the focus was more on availability. Giant monsters of all shapes and sizes.. from many eras, genres and countries.. there should be something here from everyone and i listed if the were available on Netflix and Amazon..
Attack of the Crab Monsters: (1957) In honour of the late Russell Johnson (Gilligan's Island's Professor) here's a flick directed by the legendary Roger Corman. The monster design is laughable and the plot is almost as bad.. in fact one of the "scientists" calls cells "kells" like he has never seen the word, and Russell Johnson's character fittingly spends a good portion of the film trapped on island trying to fix a radio. This one is available for streaming on (Imdb: 4.8 )
Spiders: (2013) from Tibor Takacs (most well known for an 80s flick called 'The Gate').. Russian satellite crashes into New York.. giant mutant spiders emerge from subway, bad acting ensues. (Imdb: 3.4)
Grabbers: (2012) Horror comedy in the vein of Shaun of the Dead.. When an island off the coast of Ireland is invaded by bloodsucking aliens, the heroes discover that getting drunk is the only way to survive as the alien can't handle high blood alcohol content in its victims. (Imdb:6.2)
Chaw: (2009) released as Chawz in the US, this korean flick features a giant killer boar. It's tone is all over the place, so it failed in being "the next Host" as I hoped, but it has its moments.. it also plays the horror straight, and the comedy heavily slapstick which is a combination you don't see frequently. (Imdb:6.0)
Return of the Killer Tomatoes: (1988) Evil Professor plans to take over the world with tomato human hybrids...also starring a young George Clooney... (Imdb:5.1)
The Relic(1997) A homicide detective and an anthropologist try to destroy a South American lizard-like god, who's on a people eating rampage in a Chicago museum. Fun creature effects from Stan Winston (Imdb: 5.6)
