i very recently watched this movie with Mrs Klen7. She felt bad for the elephant.
SFX-wise, some of the scenes that worked really well like the lassoing scene, we had already seen better 8 years prior in Mysterious Island and some scenes like beating up the pterodactyl were a little iffy... but i do like dinosaurs...Gwangi (the Allosaurus) was awesome.
The love story didn't work for me, and overall i'd say this is one of my less favorite Harryhausen movies now that i have revisited it. From a technical perspective this film is pretty top notch, but despite the unique genre match-up, it still seems like we have seen more imaginative and original fare from Harryhausen before and after.. though it is definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it. Also Gwangi himself is pretty awesome
