"What if we just shut down all the electrical generators? If there's no power, maybe he'll just go away!"
"No, it's no use."
"I think Shinoda's right. There's only one thing on Godzilla's mind right now."
I really love this movie. It really all comes down to balance. This movie has it all, and it was the perfect antidote to everything GINO had wrong in its attempt to be a Godzilla movie. The best is how it starts out with the weather chaser motiff, showing Godzilla as the force of nature he is, and then it compliments this with some awesome Jurassic Park references. It's just a perfect blend, and it works so well for bringing new Godzilla fans into the fold.
But back to that balance. Storywise everyone has a chance to shine, and all the characters, human and kaiju alike, are fun and interesting to watch. Effects wise, we have everything: miniatures, military artillery, building smashing and wanton destruction.
Perspective shots, this flick is full of them!
This movie doesn't waste a chance at a perspective or effects shot emphasizing how large G is. MekaGojira3k has some great pics in his post above. The beginning of the movie is chock full of them. Some work far better than others, and a few, like G's initial advance on the beach, are pretty weak.
I've always been a fan of this G suit, but I guess if there's one thing I don't like, and this thought came to mind while reading king_ghidorah's post in the cool pics thread about how the new G will probably be pretty spikey, it's that the dorsal spikey fins sometimes look a little *too* large.
A little too back heavy in a few shots
And the only other negative I have to say about the movie is that its not on bluray domestially! I have yet to see the Japanese version, and I'm hoping we'll see a bluray in the future featuring both.
