Ended up watching the MST3K version of this.
"We're going to rock this place." - Mike
Carlo Lombardi, hypnotist, and his faithful assistant who he can hypnotize into her past lives. Who is also able to bring those past lives out of her body and into a corpeal form. His favorite form being the she-creature, her first life during the beginning of the world, which he uses to murder people to prove his hypnotist predictions of murder. I'm not sure Carlo thought this through properly.
"Sleep. Sleeeeeep! SLEEEEEEP!" - Tom Servo
The good? The ghost effects. Probably the best special effect in the movie, and far above the quality of the monster suit. Carlo Lombardi also has your stereotypical hypnotist looks and voice.
The mediocre? The story. Carlo's trying to prove that souls are constantly reborn into different lives, but his focus always ends up with his assistant's first life, The She-Creature, which he commands to kill people he doesn't like, which further puts him in the police spotlight. Its not too bad, but my problem with it is why would anyone attend a hypnotist show where the assistant is the only one he hypnotizes into her past lives?
There's also a love angle with Carlo having complete hypnotical control over his assistant, but still being unable to bring her to love him as he loves her. She, of course, instantly falls in love with the good guy skeptic hypnotist who is able to use his powers to give her the will to fight Lombardi and also ultimately steer the She-Creature to kill him.
The awful? The monster suit. It's a mess and not really endearing in any memorable way. It's also kind of clunky, so when the monster attacks, there's no sense of weight behind any of its blows. The monster is kind of cool when its a ghost.
The best MST3K bit?
Tickle Me Carlo Lombardi! It's just like Tickle Me Elmo, only its Carlo Lombardi! Yes, Mike, you're right for feeling repulsed.
Eh, didn't really care for this movie. The MST3K helped.....alot.
