So I think I love Dogora more and more with every viewing. It has such a tremendous sense of fun. I appreciate that it's just a film about cops and robbers that unfurls at the same time as a monster film elsewhere. While the whole "We live in a world of monsters" thing doesn't play as well as it does in something like Son of Godzilla, it's still great.
The humor is really what does it. The cast works well and keeps me interested even before Dogora starts doing more. I'm also pretty fond of the effects here. Dogora is a spectacular looking creature, and I love the shots of it absorbing coal.
Also, oh jesus...I love the death of the criminals. It's perfect. It's hilarious. It works. I almost feel like watching Ghidrah right after this, the two feel like they belong together. Dogora is pretty underrated and I think a lot of that has to do with so few people actually watching it. Oh, and I want to be Robert Dunham when I grow up. He's pretty cool.
Oh, and just cuz.
