Alien Isolation

Postby Tom R VanSlambrouck » Sat Jul 12, 2014 12:29 am

So this is the upcoming horror game based on the Alien franchise you take control of Ellen Ripley's daughter Amanda and try to avoid an alien on a ship that's really similar to the Nostromo from Alien. From what I can tell it's just like the game Outlast only in space and in the alienverse.

If you preorder from GS you get two missions based on the original Alien film using the original cast doing voice work. If you preorder at any other retailer you only get one of the missions but the other will be made available as DLC later on. That's pretty sweet if you ask me.

I don't trust anything SEGA publishes anymore, especially with the word Alien in the title. They need to prove to me why they should get my trust. I'll wait until Angry Joke, Jimquistion, and a few others review it.

Got the game yesterday and played it for a few hours. It's pretty tense in some areas overall the game is pretty fun and does a good job at making you feel like your in an Alien movie especially the first one.

I started to play Alien Isolation today and I am enjoying it quite a bit, but it is frustrating when I die and have A LOT to redo. Funny enough, I did not get killed by the Xenomorph yet. It was those freaking mother ****ers this girl ran and got that killed me several times. Then, I thought I had to kill them to get the part I needed, which was not the case, so now I cannot get the no kill trophy.

To be honest, as much as I am enjoying the game, I'm not sure how this can be fun for another 16ish hours.

Some people talking about online have said that it's great but the plot goes on longer than it should and feels repetitive-ish in the last few hours.

Glad to see someone doing something faithful to the Alien franchise. Makes me hopeful for the future of the franchise and other releases.

I played ome more of it and I just gave up. I flat out suck and no matter what I do I am not getting better at this game. I spent 2 hours in one area dying over and over from the Xeno and after a while, it just stops being fun. I did play through the Nostromo mission, which was about 40 minutes long and stupid as hell. Of course, I died quite a bit.

Aaaaaand that's what I fear will happen to me. Although I feel like I should purchase the game to support a well made Alien games and to detract the karma from buying Aliens:CM.

What difficulty where you playing on Kain? Kotaku as well as other places suggest just playing on easy mode. That's what I'm doing. I was playing last night and I got to the first part where the alien really starts stalking you and decided to call it a night just because how scary it was getting that and it was pretty late at night.

I'm playing it on Normal since that is what I play all video games on.

Xv, if you do want to buy it, let me know as I might sell it off for $45. Of course, if you buy it used, you wouldn't get any of the DLC...

Thanks for the offer, but if I get it (which I probably am) I'm going to get it for PC.

bought on steam, downloaded it over the night but probably won't get to play it until later this week. For sure on the weekend my friend is setting up his space PC I use over there to record me playing it, see how scared I get.

Oh, I failed to mention that I beat this game on Friday morning and was quite pissed off at the
Spoiler Below:
bullcrap thing called an ending. There was no ending, the game just stopped!!
Overall, I give it a 7/10 as it had amazing atmosphere, a lot of tension, and some amazing moments like being
Spoiler Below:
on LV426 and exploring an alien nest.
The story was subpar though, frustrating AI, and the game dragged on for way too long. There are about three different moments where the game should have ended. I would definitely recommend it if you can get it for $40, but nothing more.

Played a bit of it over the weekend. Got to the part where you are in the medical area and have to get a pass key but the alien's tromping around. Thought I snuck past it into a locker only to have it rip the door off and kill me. I'm not sure I'd call it cheap. I'm not entirely sure if it could hear me getting into the locker or if it heard the motion tracker or what but I was kind of surprised that it got me.

And the entire time I was freaking tense. This game, at this stage, does what it does perfectly. I've heard that the game continues on a bit longer than it should, turning encounters with the Alien from tense and exciting moments into tedious waiting games because you figured out the AI's limits. But I haven't gotten that far, and I'm not entirely sure if I am going to finish it. I might try it again on easy and see how that works for me.

Also I shouldn't have listened to my friend and try to stealth kill one of the Working Joes near the Coms area.

But my god is this game's aesthetics is just freaking beautiful. They got the look of the world from Alien downpat for sure. It's a damn wonderful looking game. Although everyone looks like they're sweating buckets. I guess the Sevastopol or the Torrens doesn't have A/C.

WHen you are in a locker or something, you need to hold the controller back so you are all of the way up against the wall of the locker as the Xeno can hear you breathing (and the game will prompt you to hold L2 to hold your breath if it gets too close) and it can hear the motion tracker.

Playing on PC with keyboard and mouse, I didn't see any prompts (although that doesn't mean there weren't any!) and I did have the MT out. But it was rather quick. In the locker, check tracker which let out maybe three quick "Its right outside" beeps and then death. I swear I didn't even hear it scream or screech indicating it saw me.

Wow, the Red Letter Media gaming guys really hated it.

So much so that this is off my radar until its heavily discounted.

Wow, can they get any more nitpicky? I agree with some of their points, but they are just there to point out every flaw in the game for attention rather than actually enjoy the game.

5 minutes in and I think I'm done with the review. This game has too many game tropes and a game based on a horror movie has stretches of non-exciting non-action parts. I haven't gotten too far into the game but if feels like a game based on Alien; slow, atmospheric, but tense and scary. But yeah, they sound very nit-picky.
