New Godzilla Game??

I got the game yesterday and played it a lot, but I've only really unlocked most of the monsters rather than unlocked and leveled them up. I haven't even seen Gigan yet, which is really killing me because you need Gigan parts to get the second temperature gauge with each monster. I guess maybe he appears if you play as monsters other than Godzilla? I've been through the main destruction mode a few times now with Heisei Godzilla to unlock all the stage bases for the diorama mode and get all the photos on each level, but even though I've unlocked all of those there are still one or two areas I haven't done yet that have two monster icons on them instead of one, so hopefully Gigan might show up there.

So far the only other monster I've played through it with is Showa Godzilla, and I can't be the only one who thinks his atomic breath sucks, right? It's range is incredibly short and it does barely any damage. It's terrible. I used it on one of those big battleships that can be destroyed by one blast of the Heisei breath, and it took three or four hits without exploding, so I just left it.

I think I still need Battra adult, Burning Godzilla, Destroyah and Gigan to unlock, but it's going to take me a long time to level any of them up (though does anyone else have more question marks left than characters to unlock? I'm pretty sure those are the only four characters I still need to get, yet I have about 6-8 question marks left for some reason.).

Oh yeah, and I love that you can sometimes knock Mechagodzilla 2's head off. It seems like you can do it if you grapple with him when he's at low health, which makes sense since that's the closest thing to ripping his head off that you can get in the game. I'd read about it before, but seeing it for the first time when I was fighting him brought a smile to my face.

Huzzah, I finally found Gigan! I've unlocked all the monsters now and with the Gigan parts at long last I've started to level them up and try them out.

It might sound redundant, but Biollante is an absolute monster! Her vines have really good range, especially her equivalent of a "throw" move (although it doesn't do much damage), and she just obliterates anything she's near. Even her "dodge" move makes her dash forward flailing her vines around everywhere and doing crazy damage. Really, really powerful character.

I also like Gigan a lot, since he's the fastest monster I've played as so far. His dash move covers a great deal of distance compared to anyone else, and he's good for combos, plus his flying discs are also really powerful, although they take a while to charge up and fire. And Burning Godzilla's charged spiral ray does insane damage. Those are pretty much the only other characters I've played as so far, along with Showa Godzilla. Looking forward to trying out King Ghidorah and Destroyah for the first time later tonight, as I can see them potentially being pretty powerful too.

I still haven't unlocked the JJ Trophy despite doing everythign according to Gomoru<sp> Island's walkthrough. I can get Jet Jaguar to show up in the first stage but after that I can't trigger it it's really starting to piss me off, I'm wondering if I have a glitched game or something?

I'm having a lot fun with it. It's not perfect and there's a definite learning curve with the controls, but it doesn't take long to get into it. It's actually pretty clever how it utilizes 60 years of lore, and I can see fans appreciating those references more than casual gamers. I can also see this, like the Atari games before it, bringing any younger players further into the fandom. The kaiju guide is really neat and features mostly solid bios of just about every major Toho character. Oddly enough that's one of my favorite details of the game.

Kailem is right, it's the same requirement that's been there since the PS3 game. Also, anyone loves how the PS4 auto screenshot any trophies you get not matter what? The above is when I got the JJ one.

Does anyone know a good way/stage to get that "destroy 20 choppers" trophy? No matter what stage I'm on there never seem to be enough for me to destroy.

I got it during the final level where you play as burning Godzilla and fight G14.

I finally got it on the nighttime base stage while fighting King Ghidorah. Crazy that something like that took so long to get.

I'm starting to like the three player battles the more I play. It can still get annoying, like when the other players team up against you even when it's in the best interests of one of them to fight the other player instead of you, but once you start mixing up who you're attacking, fighting one guy, taking off some health, then backing off and going for the other guy to whittle them both down, it can be a lot of fun. I've had a lot of good matches that have been very close because nobody just rushed at one guy like an idiot until they were dead, as some players seem to like doing.

Of course there are still the occasional matches where you get matched against someone who just sits in the corner motionless and spams Burning Godzilla's ridiculously overpowered atomic breath anytime anyone gets close, but I guess all fighting games have their cheap and cowardly spammers.

So I wanted to post my views on this game, and I have to say I love it and am actually a little bit addicted to it. Though it seems very unfortunate that this game's reviews by so many gaming sites like IGN, Gamespot, etc, have blasted this to the stone age. Being a Godzilla fan this game stays true to the monsters in a different sense, Godzilla is not very agile at all his tank like controls and lumbering nature are actually a highlight to me, in the fact that this is how Godzilla truly moves around. I love the character models used and the various unlockable upgrades. Though the button scheme is the same for all the monsters it seems that there is still a nice variety from each monster to explore. At times replaying the campaign multiple times can seem like a chore I do like how they added the fact that each monster can play through the campaign. Yes there are some things that this game can improve upon but this game is still lots of fun and I will be playing it for a long time.

On a side note, I played through the campaign as Godzilla so many times without unlocking Jet Jaugar (I didn't realize how to unlock him in the first stage till much later) that by the time I could upgrade Godzilla, I actually almost got all of the upgrades that one time, did that happen to anyone else?

It's really the little things that I love. Try taking to the air as Ghidorah and then fire off your electric beams wiping out about 2 blocks worth of buildings. Tell me that doesn't make you smile.

Yeah using Ghidorah's beam attack while you're flying over Shibuya or a similarly densely-packed area is great fun. So many sparks!

Speaking of the Shibuya stage, has anyone ever fought any monsters whatsoever on stages 19 or 20, or are those ones just for Super X battles? None have ever appeared there for me, but I was wondering if maybe there are some specific requirements you need to complete before they do, perhaps (like with Jet Jaguar).

Those are reserved for Super X battles. If you do minimal damage and don't grow in size to much on stage 19 you'll fight only Super X but if you do a lot of damage and grow to 80+ Meters you'll fight Super X and Super X 2; doing the hard route I've only done maximum damage and managed to trigger all three Super X's for stage 20.

So I've played through multiple times now, and the largest I got in Godzilla's main campaign was 118 meters, now on invade as Biollante I got to 121 meters, I was just wondering what other player's record height has been? So far my favorite monsters in the game are Godzilla, Biollante, and Mecha-King Ghidorah as far as worse monster I'd have to give it to Mechagodzilla 1 and Mechagodzilla 2, I just can't combo any moves with him, he is so slow, any tips for playing as Mechagodzilla 1 and 2?

A friend bought this game and after playing it for a little while I think everything Joe has to say here is true about the game, it is an insult to the franchise. If we allow a garbage game like this to sell because it has the name Godzilla on it, then Bandai will never take making a Godzilla game seriously.

The last really polished game that we got with Godzilla was DAMM. Even though I'm sure most people prefer Save the Earth for it's massive roster, if feels more unfinished. It just happen to have been built on already decent skeleton that is DAMM (sort of like how Gotham Origins was mostly alright because it was a copy of Arkham City but not done by Rocksteady so it was a little off).

Honestly the "best" games Godzilla ever got were the SNES/Turbo-Duo fighting game and the NES side-scroller. Even then they weren't the best of their genres, just competent.

If I had a PS4, I'm sure I'd be loving the game and playing the hell out of it. But I know it is what it is, Godzilla Generations 3.

And if this had local play as well as network, I'm sure people would be loving it more. I know it'd make the eventual G-Fest XXIII Tournament a hell of a lot easier.
