Art of Shin Godzilla

Postby klen7 » Sat Dec 31, 2016 8:43 am

This book was delayed multiple times, but still made it out before the end of 2016. It is incredible. It comes with a few posters and a complete script, but the artbook itself is worth the price of admission without all the extras.

A lot of the concept art is already circulating (because some of it is a pretty radical departure from the franchise) but thats only a tenth of the book. There are hundreds of pages of pictures dedicated to stuff that did make the film. Tons of detail.

Wow, this book looks great! Now I just need to find a copy...Also, 2 of those insignia on the "special construction" page made me think of the "Wonderbolts". I REALLY need to cut back on the cartoons... :D

Actually, one eagle eyed user on Tumblr thought down a similar path

Seeing this image, as well as other concepts of the human Godzillas... it looks like they could be straight out of certain rumor/hoax/spoilers for this film from early this year, right? Is it in any way possible some people saw these images free of context and crafted their own story around them via guesswork?

^ that's from the storyboard for the transformation from form 2 to form 3. It is accompanied by a mushroom cloud, but I can't make out if there was intended to be an explosion as well.

Without posting a bunch of cool pictures I'm glad they went with the scarier humanoid Godzillas because I like the idea that even if Godzilla's DNA decided to mimic humanity there'd still be a corrupted monstrous quality to them (a la Biollante, SpaceGodzilla, Orga).

Wow. That sounds like it would have been quite a scene. I wonder whether it was abandoned as a creative decision or primarily motivated by budget limitations?

If done, it might have topped the show-stopping scene with Godzilla's discharging multiple rays.

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing all of this, klen7. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for all of those interior building miniatures the next time I see Shin Godzilla.

Practical water and explosive effects! Hell, yeah!

Can't wait to watch this film again and get another look at all this stuff.
