Man, I so wanted to love his kaiju books, but I just can't. Nemesis and Maigo (haven't read Project 731) are, quite honestly, average at best. The stories are painfully predictable and plod along at a crawling pace, the first-to-third person POV switches are jarring, the characters are so stereotypical they are nearly archetypes. Island 731 was just the same. Robinson writes like he's transcribing a much better, but equally mindless, action movie. I'd chalk it up to a learning curve, but he's already written a ton of books so I guess it's just him. I might try Project 731 (all too often I go back to authors who disappoint me in the vain hope that this book will be the gold mine I've been waiting for), but I'm not very hopeful about it.
I'm not a hero. I'm not a savior. Forget what you know.
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control.
