I couldn't see the links here, but i saw them on another site. man that is amazing stuff. If there were ever another Godzilla animated series, I would want it to look similiar to THIS.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #3

Chris Mowry (w) • Matt Frank (a & c)

San Diego has become the latest victim of a monstrous invasion from the sea. With Godzilla recovering from his last destructive battle it’s up to a familiar face to fight off the mysterious Destoroyah swarm!

FC • 32 pages • $3.99

*Variant Covers:

Jeff Zornow variant cover!

The biggest monster action to grace the page yet!

Needless to say, it's another awesome cover by Zornow. Now, the real question is whether or not Gezora and Manda are actually going to be in this particular issue, or is this just another Zornow cover that is unrelated/has little to nothing in common with the actual contents inside the book(ala Zornow's covers for the Kingdom of Monsters series)? The short synopsis mentions only Godzilla battling Destroyer, but makes no reference to or mention of Gezora and Manda(Hopefully they are the "monstrous invasion from the Sea").

Regardless, stellar stuff from Zornow :th-up:

I know a lot of fans complained about the covers for KoM, so when the new ongoing happened we got a bunch of covers featuring Boxer.... personally I would prefer good art. I don't think anyone out there wants a poster of Boxer on their wall, especially over Zornow's Ghidorah cover with Mazer tanks (whether or not we got Mazer tanks or even that Ghidorah iteration)

With all due respect, while I also like good art, having covers, no matter how great they are, contain images that are *completly* different from the contents inside is beyond irritating, and KOM was a horrible offender in this regard. Let's hope those days are long over.

Here is another cover from Zornow( for issue #2?)...looks like Orga will appearing:

Neat. I always dug Orga.

So new monsters we've got are:
Orga
Gezora
Manda
Varan
GINO

Neat :D

While I really like Zornow's work on these covers, I'm not digging this particular one as much as most of his other covers. The layout is nice, however, Gigan's face and mouth look off and rather odd imo. The Gezora/Manda is definitely the better of the two...

Yeah, I didn't notice it at first glance, but your right. Heck, the general layout of the Gezora/Manda cover is more interesting as well.

Well, I'll probably be happy if they actually use these new monsters they're talking about. It seems to me that they said the same sh*t with the last ongoing, only to throw pretty much the same batch at us. I remember seeing a pic of The Gargantuas duking it out in a post related to that series, but I never saw it in the book.

I wanna see Varan and Manda and Orga and Frankenstein and those other guys trashing each other for a change.

I seem to remember IDW saying A LOOONG time ago that they wanted to use the Gargantuas, so they could be coming. They DO have the license for them and I doubt they would have paid for it if they weren't going to use it.

And they SHOULD get on the Frankenstein wagon and use Toho's Frankenstein since Frankenstein's Monster is a public domain creature. Even if they can't get the exact Toho design for rights reasons, they could find a way to work that in there.

Also, I don't mind the Gigan in that recent Zornow cover. It looks like he might have looked at the Trendmasters figure for inspiration.

PS- Have any of these "Rulers of Earth" books come out yet? I'm SO out of the loop on IDW Godzilla that its just sad (I read the first three issues of KoM and that's as far as I've come). But I really wanna check out this series for the unique mix of monsters.

The release dates are supposed to be 6/19 for issue 1 and 7/24 for issue 2, but i think so far in 2013 more dates slipped than were hit for Godzilla series...

That said Half Century War trade paperback on 6/4, arguably the best Godzilla comic so far from any publisher. Great art, great story.

I can't recommend the current ongoing, even to Godzilla fans. Definitely check out HCW, I'd recommend Gangsters and Goliaths as well (although i have a couple complaints about the trade) and Legends is a series of one-shots from different authors and artists, so your mileage will vary on that, but i'd recommend that over KoM if you are trying to decide where to put your G comic money.

So actually the editor just posted that RoE #1 will be out during the last week of June... so we are off to a good start... as long as i have a copy in time for G-Fest so i can get a Matt Frank signature on it, i'll be happy.

For the current ongoing issue 12 is supposed to be out 5/29 and the final issue (13) will be out mid June

Yes.

i could at least argue for the merits of KoM, the current ongoing is a mess of bad story telling, cliche characters and disastrous plotting. the final stretch is trying to make up for the first 3/4 by giving us non-stop monster on monster action, so maybe that's got to count for something... but at the same time they gave us a filler recap issue that ended on a poop joke, so yeh...

I'm kind of split; I hated the political garbage from KOM, but I've got to the point in the current that I just can't stand Boxer's character. At first, he seemed like this Bruce Willis/Schwarzenegger badass who just couldn't die, and I thought that was cool. But the further on it went, he just got dumber and dumber, constantly doing stupid sh*t that jeopardized the lives of his teammates. And his dialogue is annoying. Not the British part, but the stereotypical hardass hero; I've half expected him to start saying "Come with me if you want to live." by now.

I don't know. I liked the story of the soldier and the orphaned kid in KOM; that was touching. But the chemistry between the characters in the current series seems so choppy all the time. Everybody hates him one minute, then they're relying on him the next; key characters dying, you get the point. All I know is I've revisited KOM more than once since it ended, and I don't think I've gone back through this series at all yet.

I think the current ongoing is better than Kingdom of Monsters, but not by much. It starts off decent enough in the first few issues but the overall story (group of kaiju bounty hunters neutralize several Earth monsters, who are then trapped on Monster Island, just before an invasion of space monsters befalls the planet and we need the Earth monsters to defend us) is way too thinly stretched across 11 issues and counting. There is so much filler and action movie cliches it's ridiculous. While #10 and #11 have really delivered the goods in terms of a climactic third act, they should have happened months ago. The whole series could have been condensed down to five, six, maybe seven issues at the most, but they decided to make this one very basic story last for an entire year.

It's still better than Kingdom of Monsters, though, which was a sloppy mishmash of unfocused writing, bad art, unsubtle political commentary, and even more go-nowhere plotting.

Just pick up the trade paperbacks of The Half-Century War, Gangsters and Goliaths, and Legends. Those are the gems of IDW's run. The former two are succinct, well-written stories that are perfectly paced across five issues each and the latter is a collection of five one-off stories. I'm really looking forward to Rulers of Earth.

I think I like KOM just a smidge more than the ongoing.

I hate Boxer, and I think the comic is ugly. I think if at least one of those things were fixed I'd be more into what I'm reading. :/

I think Ben's explanation pretty much mirrors mine; that story had so much potential, but they dragged it out waaaay too much. It's like they ran out of sh*t to write about so they just started throwing garbage in there.

And I still don't like Gane's art very much.

Sorry, but while I am no fan of the current ongoing series and agree with you completely on its faults, it's still a *far* better comic than than the steaming pile of dreck known as Kingdom of Monsters...the entire run of Powell/Marsh's saga along with Santos' "art" (if you can call it that) could all be described as one big poop joke. The plot and story line of the current ongoing series has indeed been inconsistent...but at least it has an actual plot to be criticized, while KOM basically had none...and let's not forget Lady Gaga, Jersey Shore, Odgen, the lame soldier character with no personality, and Powell/Marsh's left wing political "satire" that they constantly beat the readers over the head with(Although this PC political crap did creep its ugly head in the very first issue of the current ongoing with the eye rolling-inducing wedding in the first issue, they thankfully cut this nonsense out after the first issue). Without a doubt one of the worst comics I have ever read, and IDW still hasn't recovered most of the fans it alienated with KOM.

The current ongoing has been great the last several issues, and therein lies the problem....It all seems too little, too late. There is no reason why it should've taken so g*d damn long to see the great monster action that we are currently witnessing. Almost everything prior to the most recent three issues has been about as dull, bland, and mundane of a comic as I have ever read. Literally nothing of interest whatsoever happens in the first six or seven issues. Prior to this current series starting, I remember being a huge skeptic of the proposed "bounty hunters" plot, and sadly I was proven right as it has been extremely disappointing. A more skillful writer could have summed up the first six or seven issues into a mere one or two issues. If Duane Swierczynski were writing Half Century War, it would probably take him 20-30 issues to tell that same story that Stokoe told in 5 issues. I definitely don't want to see Swierczynski back after this series wraps up.

The artwork has been rather good for the most part... Simon Gane got off to a very shaky start with the first few issues of this series (especially issue number four and his underwhelming depiction of the Rodan/Titanosaurus battle). Nevertheless, his work has greatly improved as this series has progressed, and he's really starting to come into his own. Gane's worst work is still like Rembrandt compared to Santos' slop.

I for one one am grateful that there seems to be a more constructive, objective discussion of these comics on this board now...on TK, any conservation regarding the current ongoing or the upcoming ROE basically revolves around "greatest comic eva!!!" rhetoric with fans basically sucking up to Mowry, Bobby Curnow, and Matt Frank and declaring ROE a hit and fiercely defending it before a single issue has been released...they're even making web banners to advertise it for free for IDW... I just hope they don't have their bubbles burst if this turns into another disappointment like the current ongoing and KOM. Although I too am excited and optimistic about ROE snd feel it has a a lot of potential, I have also not forgotten similar hype before (I remember how Curnow and co. boldly declared that the fans would not be disappointed and that they had learned from the mistakes of KOM and that we had nothing to worry about...needless to say, look how that has turned out), so as they say in my home state of Missouri, they'll have to "Show Me"....
