It's not a matter of buying them, its a matter of finding them. The Publisher is basically saying because this is done by "unknowns" in the comic industry, it is going to be published on a much smaller scale than any previous IDW Godzilla series, and don't automatically assume your local comic store is going to carry it. IDW sales data can be found here:

http://www.tohokingdom.com/news/2012/02 ... sales.html

as you can see, sales have steadily dwindled for All Godzilla IDW titles to now below 7000. I'm actually quite thankfull that there is going to be a new series based on some financial concerns folks at IDW brought up earlier. But I wouldn't be suprised if LoE #1 starts with a printing of 5000 or less, and # of copies will only go up if demand goes up.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Pre-orders are critical for order numbers, so that will likely determine the number of prints in the first run... the big problem (industry wide) is that a lot of comic book shops under order so they minimize the risk of books left on the shelf (lost money) then they put in for more copies which in some cases forces a 2nd printing.

No issue of The Half-Century War has sold fewer than 9,000.

I'm willing to bet that with the 3 month delay of issue #5 it's numbers will be down. Maybe not to 7000, but definitely less than 9000 based on all other trends. WE as fans may love these series, but the general comic reader isn't aware, or dosen't seem to care.

The owner of my FLCS loves HCW, and actually recommends it to customers... the rest of the bunch... not so much..

Couple of random thoughts:

- Very nice to hear about Gorosaurus appearing. Ditto on Varan.

-Nice to see Frank working on a regular series, as his kaiju are full of life that is absent with most of the other artists. Hopefully people won't b*tch so much this time in regards to how he draws people...I think they look fine). It will be interesting to see how he'll handle the challenge of doing monthly interiors and meeting deadlines over the long haul.

- In total contrast, I'm not digging GINO's appearance *at all* (one issue is bad enough, but 2 issues focusing on this brown stain of the G universe??! That's more than the # of issues old school King Ghidorah/Megalon/Destroyer, and numerous others have appeared in...utterly ridiculous).

- I take it this is going to be around 12 issues as usual with the ongoing?

- The most recent sales figures are a little alarming (under 7000 issues sold for Godzilla #10).
This new series could be the last if this trend continues. If this is indeed a swan swong, then let's hope this will be a great series). We need an ongoing that is on par with the mini-series for a change.

- I really loved EJ Su's work in G:Legends. Any chance of ever seeing him work on a G comic again?

- We need to see less of MechaGodzilla/Kiryu/whatever and start using different Mecha such as Moguera and Jet Jaguar instead. MG at this point as been way overused in these books and I rather bored with him at this point).

- Finally, I hope Mowry and Frank don't cave into the "this new series must be connected to the KOM & Boxer storyline!" silliness and instead feel free to write a great story without being constrained, held back, or hindered by the shortcomings and ineptness of past books. Rulers of Earth needs to stand on it's own and not waste time tidying up the messes of past storylines...

I don't think they're going to be tidying up the past storylines, but just using the elements (all of the established world and monsters) those series provide.

I actually agree with this. I could kinda be ok with it in GMK and GFW because he's just being treated as a joke, but stuff like this kind of legitimizes the American Godzilla in the Toho canon and I don't like that.

His fight in Final Wars was a joke but the rest of his appearance actually made him out to be a more legitimate monster than his own film did. Honestly, I have all faith in Matt to make his presence here perfectly worthwhile.

I've always liked Zilla. It's not a good interpretation of Godzilla, but it's a really cool reptilian monster design in and of itself. It would be a shame to let such a potentially memorable monster be wasted to history just because it was once passed off as Godzilla by a couple of filmmakers who never liked Godzilla to begin with. Why should we let them ruin it?

If anything is "legitimized" by Zilla appearing alongside the real Godzilla in any medium, it's the fact that Zilla is NOT Godzilla. You won't see Godzilla '62 meeting Godzilla '89, for example, because they're not two different characters, they're two different incarnations of the same character. Having Zilla appear in this comic just further drives home the notion that Zilla is its own monster and therefore isn't Godzilla. :)

I don't mind GINO. Especially because I tend to think of the cartoon character more than the monster from the 98' film. I dig his design.

I'm glad more people feel that way. I always thought it was a cool design, and I think it'll be interesting to see what they do with him.

There's a Zilla NEO, I believe.

Cool cover for Issue 2

Also Jeff Zornow seemed to indicate Manda will be appearing on a cover in the near future, so mayhaps he'll show up in the series as well.
