He only went with the ones that were "featured," plus Godzilla. Hence, no Destoroyah or Mechagodzilla.

Art Adams original artwork for his issue #1 cover just sold on Ebay for over $3000 (and the bidding started at $100)

Also, as you can tell from the photo from this auction, Mothra is also present as well:

EDIT: For some odd reason, the pic isn't displaying, although it shows up just fine in other forums I posted it....wierd. Just go to the ebay link for the pic...

The new ongoing continues to intrigue me, and Half Century War sounds really interesting.

Are they doing an issue with the Gargantuas? I know they said they were interested at one point... anyway, the reason I ask is because Jeff Zornow posted this sketch on Facebook with the caption "A war is coming..."

Well a while back they said they were in talks to expand the roster and the Gargantuas were on the table. Looks like they succeeded.

Hopefully they succeeded in getting Baragon as well.

Some awesome news regarding more monsters appearing in future IDW comics:

DW ANNOUNCES GODZILLA COMIC WITHOUT GIMMICKS OR PUBLICITY STUNTS
Written by Jude Terror
Comics

What the heck is IDW doing? Don't they know you can't just announce a comic these days?

While reading through the Outhouse press email this afternoon, this reporter very nearly overlooked this release from IDW. IDW will be releasing a new Godzilla ongoing by Duane Swierczynski and Simon Gane, it seems, but what's shocking is that there does not seem to be any controversial, media-attention-seeking gimmick related to the event. Surely I've overlooked something, I thought, as I scanned the release for news of Godzilla's bisexuality or the shocking revelation that Godzilla is the first lizard transexual, but alas, there is no gimmick to be found. Godzilla is a just a cool comic coming out this summer.

This is a bold move by IDW, and one that The Outhouse supports. Godzilla #1 will hit stores and digital comic apps on May 23rd, with the previously announced James Stokoe's Godzilla: The Half-Century War #1 following in August. IDW's entire back catalog of Godzilla comics will also be available digitally with the release of Godzilla #1. Here's the press release:

GODZILLA'S ONE CRAZY SUMMER!

IDW announces digital Godzilla comics, new characters, and a new title!

May 23, 2012

San Diego, CA – Expanding what has become an explosive publishing partnership, this summer IDW Publishing and Toho Co., Ltd.are bringing even more kaiju chaos to comic fans everywhere!

May 23rd brings the launch of Duane Swierczynski and Simon Gane's new, ongoing Godzilla series, which features covers by Arthur Adams and Tony Harris! That's not all, though!

That same day, after much anticipation, Godzilla will finally hit digital platforms! Available on iOS, Android, and Nook, IDW's entire back catalog of catastrophic, giant monster destruction will be available as single issues and trades. Not only that, but the new Godzilla ongoing will launch day and date with two exclusive digital variant covers!

This bounty of crushing comics destruction comes hot on the heels of IDW's announcement of Orc Stain creator James Stokoe's Godzilla: The Half-Century War, a generation-spanning tale packed to the gills with Stokoe's trademark hyper-detailed linework and nearly-psychedelic colors. If any comics creator out there was born to draw giant monsters leveling crowded metropolitan areas, folks, it's James Stokoe.

And as if all that city-stompin' goodness wasn't enough, IDW has made the necessary space in Godzilla's monstrous world for even more of Toho's creatures, with more than 20 of Godzilla's co-stars joining the roster of licensed characters. From fan favorites such as JET JAGUAR to lesser-known greats like the gargantuas, SANDA and GAIRA, the future of Godzilla at IDW is bound to be even more action-packed than ever.

Needless to say, it's going to be a chaos-drenched summer for Godzilla fans.

Hopefully they all have insurance.

And a post from Bobby Curnow on the IDW forums:

Bobby Curnow wrote:So obviously... we've got more monsters! A couple important things about this:

1. This deal was completed after both GODZILLA and Half Century War were proposed and planned. So both of those series were conceived with our original slate of monsters in mind. So don't expect to see a lot of the new monsters in 2012.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we saw some cameo appereances and more substantial 'screen time' for new monsters as the year goes on. We will see!!

2. We're keeping mum on which exact monsters we have for now. This is to keep you guys guessing and discussing. Hopefully some of the monsters will be genuine surprises, and enhance the story telling. Some monsters we'll announce outside of the comics as time goes on, some you will see/hear about for the first time in the pages of future issues. You'll never know what to expect!!

So with that in mind, I WON'T be answering questions as to which monsters we have and don't have! You'll just have to wait and see!

As the press release says though, we have Jet Jaguar and Sanda & Gaira, so you can expect a wide range of candidates!

Also... we now have digital rights, so you can get your Godzilla comics at comixology now. (though, who wouldn't want to get them in print?!?)

Big things on the way!

Kiryu being there could mean nothing, or it could mean that they're gonna build another MechaGodzilla in this continuity.

Neat cover anyhow.

I know the covers typically don't mean anything, but mayhaps Mothra will make it into the ongoing universe finally.

Another nice Godzilla/Kiryu piece. I guess this does indicate we're getting the Kiryu design. I guess that makes sense, given the time skip.
